This is the first time I hear Petrov in Italian, his 'slavic' accent is no stronger than Christoff, it doesn't bother me at all. Though I consider myself a bit of a Verdi purist, I hear no sccoping and all portamenti work wonderfully. The breath snatched before "labbro mio" is perfectly justified by that wonderful mezza voce diminuendo, furthermore Petrov shows exactly what Verdi means by 'canto spiegat in the following phrase.
