Get the straight facts along with lovely, smooth hair! Without the proper ventilation cosmetologists may be over exposed to excessive levels of formaldehyde or glutaraldehyde, so they should invest in an efficient ventilation system. A "Chemical Source Capture System" removes these potentially harmful vapors from the breathing zone of both the stylist and client. Search "Chemical Source Capture System", "Hair Smoothing Controversy" or "Preferred BKT Ventilation" for additional information.
There are so many things wrong with this video but the biggest wrong would be the way the stylist pulled back the already flat-ironed hair with a clip. A huge no-no when doing the treatment, the client is advised not to pull the hair back into a clip or ponytail for at least 4 days after the treatment. And there was way too much product out in the hair at the beginning of the process.
@evababy79 why is this recommended for professional only? It seems pretty straightforward, like you could do it at home, if you follow the steps carefully. Whats the worst that can happen? Seems like the worst would be that you have to wash your hair a bunch of times and lose a bit of money if you don't like the results..
@CaraIain As easy as it may seem, you do need a professional to perform BKT on you for many reasons. A professional knows how to apply the product without going directly in your scalp. The flat ironing would be the most difficult part of it, it would be almost impossible to do it on your own.
@bkeratin it seems easy enough to get a friend to flat iron your hair...and a friend who bleaches her own/her mum's hair also knows how to get it just on the hair and not the scalp. If its a non-formaldehyde version, it doesn't seem that problematic.
@evababy79 As you can see in the video the stylist use special flat clips to hold the hair for a few minutes, just to get to the other hair section with more ease, you can clearly see it leaves no mark. The stylist also go over the whole head with the flat iron after removing the clip, leaving no marks. In regards to the amount of product, this model's hair is very frizzy, to ensure best results, you should not cut down on the amount, 1000ml bottle will give you 10-12 applications like this.

@evababy79 If I were to make an appt with the stylist on the video, where is the salon located? Are you in Minneapolis? How much does treatment cost?
