What gets me is there were other acts on Solar who probably sold half of what Shalamar did ... Lord knows they were probably even more broke than these three. Sheesh. The business is shady.
Industry insiders have said that even after all these years that Howard, Jeffrey and Dick continue to be envious and disrespectful of a solo Jody and that they have never tried to truly remedy the past with her in order to have a positive reunion! It has also been rumored that Dick threatened her physically and verbally, years ago at a industry event as well! After hearing all of this and watching Unsung, it appears that they are indeed still bitter and from a fan's view its a musical shame!
Jody is still making hits and great music! True Jody fans know what's up, electro, dance, pop, r&b, jazz. adult contemporary and so on. She's had more hits that the group in more categories, look it up.
A lot of people try to hate on Jody but her voice made the sound complete, period and her style shut it down. A lot of people can sing, few have true STAR quality. Jody is all that and more. I felt like they cut out a lot of what she had to say, but no surprise there.
well well..i see they are making ANOTHER unsung season this time with bootsy collins teena marie roger and zapp and klymax hopefully the producers and executive producers have gotten thier act together to make it better this time because the last ones they did were boring and horrible they ALL NEED to have 2 hours specials APIECE (especially the bootsy one) Unsung dont short change the public viewers says uzipolo-king of decatur
Dick Griffy is the man that taught Suge Knight everything he knows. He must of passed this on too. But in the end cheating the artist never works. Look at Death Row and Solar records now. All their artist have since moved on and are still doin' it big. Dre, Snoop, Daz, Kurupt, Howard Hewitt, Jody Watley, Babyface, LA Reid just to name a few. Even Afeni Shakur is finally benefiting from her son's hard work.
Why not? Nowadays young singers come out with stupid songs and make millions, buy an expensive crib and own more than 4 cars . Shalamar sang the best jams ever and couldn't even afford the cheapest car. Meanwhile the producers and managers were filling their pockets. What a shame! That reminds me of the New Edition's story. Greed is a bad thing!
i agree but you can trace that to the 60's with the beatles and the monkeys to be honest with you who sung bubble gum songs and made a killing(well the management did anyway) and now its rampet with this type of formula which to me is pathetic, but at the same time you cant blame the artist its these dumb ass ho's buying thier cd and on top of that they DONT have A&R now or growth and development teams to work with them to teach them proper etitque or stage presence.says uzipolo-king of decatur
