  • 20th Century-Fox distributed weekly "Movietone" newsreels from 1927 through 1963 [from '27 through '36, it was "Fox Film Corporation"- they merged with "20th Century Pictures" in '36].

  • he said "the first manmade moon"

  • The logo ruins the clip. It's cool to see this anyway. The kids today, well, not ALL of them, haven't heard of Sputnik. "Who cares? That's ancient history," they drawl. If only they knew....

And, I'm even older, haha, ancient?...

  • Who owned the rights to this film originally? It would be interesting to know "who" is reporting on Sputnik.

  • The original rights were with Movietone News. They showed these in theaters before movies like the previews of these days.

Fox News bought out all the movietone films...

  • What the hell the fox nes logo doing on there!

    That ruins the whole video!!!

  • FoxNews bought out all the Movietone Newsreels.

So, the only video of this anymore has thier logo there...sigh

  • Fox News bought the entire collection to my understanding and still pulls them out in the new, digital format like this one.

Hard to think its been only 51 years...

  • The animation of the Sputnik flying by at 1:25 would be used in the Movietone News opening from 1957 until the newsreel's closing in 1963.

  • I wonder if Fox News still runs the old Movietone newsreels?

The animation of the Sputnik at 1:25 would be used in the Movietone News opening from that year until the newsreel died.
