Thanks for posting pensionkastel, but i have to disagree with you about the Atlantic recordings being her only great music, she did many great recordings while at Columbia: "One Step Ahead" "Running Out of Fools", "My Baby's Face", etc, and many more. The Columbia catalog definitely needs to be checked out.

burt bacharach (this song's composer) was in london earlier this week performing at the bbc electric proms, and although the accompanying singer was obviously highly talented, her comparatively weak rendition just underlined what a brilliant voice aretha franklin has. totally concur with those saying 'best rendition ever'.

i used to think that dionne warwick's rendition of this was one my all time faves but after hearing aretha's version of it a few yrs ago i had to re-think it and now this baby sits right near the top of my 20 favorites of all time. very tough to come to that conclusion but still not sure about rolling stone saying she's the greatest singer of all time. i think they really stuck it to elton john at #36 or wherever they put him. he deserves a top spot. just a great tunesmith. but aretha's a-ok.
