  • YESTERDAY FOREVER

  • berry Gordy is still alive..smh..the fact that someone thinks hes dead is beyond me

  • i remember watching this live when i was a child. im so happy to watch it as an adult. thank you for posting.

  • mary wells

  • marvin is gone and ernie barnes too

  • Times have changed....Dick has had a stroke, Richard is gone, Michael is gone, Stevies hair line was visible, Ms. Ross had a voice, Gordy was alive.....sigh

  • Ah, the good ol days when black men wore belts and showing their underwear was a sin.

  • OK...that opening number was ridiculous. Oh well, it was the 80's.

  • THE MIRACLES are my favorites. You know , the group that started the entire Motown Record Co? Everybody tends to give credit to all of the Motown artists that came AFTER The Miracles. But, if not for them, according to Berry Gordy, there would be NO MOTOWN....and none of those other artists would have even had a JOB !!!

  • This is a real Motown record!!!These are a real Artist of ever!!!!

  • and watching all these again.....i had the video at one time....its so sad that alt of these great performers have left us. i have played music for 30 years ( all kinds ) Motown is my favorite.

  • @ Bolder...it was Marvin Gayes last televised performance before his father killed him

  • They should just call this "Michael Jackson coronation ceremony" haha

  • @RockyBalboa211 I agree. However my favourite performance of the show was when Marvin Gaye when went over to the piano and gave a short poetic history lesson about the roots of African-American music before performing 'What's going on' with all the pathos, soul and class that he exemplified throughout his career.

  • @bolder2009: Marvin Gaye's speech and performance were fantastic..

  • @RockyBalboa211 Yes indeed. Its still moves today. As I look back on it, it seems like he was summing up his musical and life experience into one last performance for the world. If memory serves me right, it was his last or second to last televised performance.

  • Motown was not fair to many of their artists.

  • Definately; FUNKBROTHERS RULEZ!

  • Sho ya right!!!!!!

  • Oh, poor Claudette - she looks lovely here, but synchronised choreography really isn' t her forte... love her though, one of the forgotten queens of Motown!

  • THANK YOU for uploading this ;)

  • FUNK BROTHERS THE BEST BAND EVER

  • OMG THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING!!!!!!!!

  • I was born in 1963 and this is the only music I heard as a little kid growing up in Detroit. That`s all my older brothers listened to. All of us were whiteboys with rythym, lol. Smokey Robinson was my fav then later the Jackson 5. Listening to the Motown hits bring back so many memories.

  • @ braksator All I can say is I'm glad they decided to release this. Thanks for posting. Do they sell these?

  • stevie, marvin and temptations are great. but mj just stoled the show. mj is the shiznittt...

  • stevie, marvin, temptations are great. but mj just stoled the show. mj is the shiznittt...

  • Who could hate stevie wonder :)

  • You can get a 2 disc DVD from here:

    soulcollectors .comli .com

  • stevie wonder is a musical genius, even his work with babyface is great

  • stevie wonder ROCKSSSS <3

  • 2:56 Michael ♥♥♥

  • maybe Michael rocked the show, but still the best performance skill wise has to go to Marvin Gaye. Such a huge talent. Great show, great music. I wish it could come back in some time. Rip to all the fallen motown greats

  • here i am, signed, sealed, delivered, I'M YOURS!!!!!!! There is a reason why Little Stevie is called Stevie WONDER!!!

  • Marvin Gaye was rite behind MJ of best pefermance of the nite

  • Yeah yeah, this show was great. But let's be honest people, Michael Jackson's Billie Jean performance is what it's known for.

  • would be nice if all special instrumentation that had been made by the Funk Brothers, as in the golden age of Motown

  • I thought it was the michael jackson show starring everybody else..

  • @mad4you1000 Funny, especially seeing he was nowhere near the most talented on the label, even.

  • Miracles member MARV TARPLIN , (with guitar) , can be seen on stage to the right at 7:45, 8:21 9:05 and 10:05

  • I love Stevie so much, he is magical

  • Dick Clark gets a lot of hate but for such a straight laced dude he was/is a cool cat. I never saw this special in its full (i was a year old when it aired), but its pretty awesome. Especially seeing Smokey he could make anything great.

  • I was 4 when this first aired. I remember doing all my chores and behaving myself so I could stay up and watch Michael Jackson do his thing!!!!

  • No mention of the funk brothers ,without them ,there would have been no motown .

No disrespect to all the artists but without the funk brothers they would have not gone as far as they did THE FUNK BROTHERS ARE MOTOWN

  • @selby16

    Funk Brothers were Killer !!!

I have them on DVD .....

    tigerhonaker

  • @selby16 Well said. James Jamerson didn't even get an invite. That's one of the great tragedies of the Motown story.

  • Somewhere in that audience a man named James Jamerson is in the audience. The man who was the bass player for motown between the years of '59 and '72. he scalped a ticket for overprice because he wasn't on the list despite being one of the foundations for the motown and helped make motown. he would die two weeks later from a broken heart.

  • @dalcon555 yea he was great so sad the funk brothers roooooooooooooooooooccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • Yo Go Stevie! Damn he's good--singing AND taught himself to play piano? Dude's my musical male hero~!

  • @sweetcakes200

Earl Van Dyke taught him to play piano... check your sources.

  • @dalcon555 oh. awkward. still, doesn't make him any less kewl tho. so check THAT! blind due plays wayyy better than me....

  • completely taken by this... I was born in 84 so i missed this. I've been watchin it so long in fact, that I've lost track of time and missed my class

    But who cares? Lovin this!

  • well when stevie comes everybody scream and they havent seen michael!

  • Smokey's dance cracks me up! Lol!

  • Oh! Okay! Sorry, =) Was that the one with Bill Cosby as the host? Patty LaBelle rocked the stage! Poor Joe Cocker. LOL! If that is the same one I am thinking of. Thank you so much for clearing that up! =) *Patti* oops =)

  • Oh! Okay! Sorry, =) Was that the one with Bill Cosby as the host? Patty LaBelle rocked the stage! Poor Joe Cocker. LOL! If that is the same one I am thinking of. Thank you so much for clearing that up! =)

  • Thank you for uploading this.

  • Where is the part with Debbie Allen, Vanessa Williams, Jennifer Holiday, etc. ?

  • @cosmicgirlNiecyworld That was "Motown Returns to the Apollo"

  • Haven't seen a good TV special like this in a long time, I remember when every network would have one or two a year.

  • This Canadian/Asian man was raised on 70's/80's music ...dancing/rollerskating..You Tube keeps the memories alive !!!

  • I remember this like yesterday when it aired, IT WAS HUGE. Sadly almost 80% of these peeps left us

  • WHO IN THE HELL IS PUSHING THE DELETE BUTTON? I hope somebody with cerebral palsy slaps the hell out of you!!!

  • Like Stevie says-'I wish those days could come back once more'

  • GREAT UPLOAD...NOW IF ONLY I CAN FIND THIS ON DVD...LOL...I'LL BE COMPLETE!!

  • Couriously Motown have the same age than Michael Jackson

  • @RickAstley25 the other sad thing about this show is it gives no props whatsoever to THE FUNK BROTHERS, the muscians who made these hits. James Jamerson, the best bass player of all time, had to scalp tickets to sit in the nosebleed section to watch this. This is the same man who gave us all the beats of all the hits

  • Hey braksator or anyone...do you have Motown returns to the apollo?

  • THANK YOU FOR THE UPLOAD!!!!!! I have not seen this in full since 1988 when one of my cousins took my video tape back to Fiji and never came back!!!!!

  • @TheAdultChild101 Who are they?

  • Stevie !!!!

  • Are people deliberately trying to avoid praising MJ? He owned this show, whether you people want to admit it or not.

  • Man! is everybody forgetting Smokeys contribution? Smokey was THE ONE. he was responsible for alot of the music motown put out in terms of writing and producing cos the Jacksons, Supremes, Temptations, and even stevie and other acts were'nt writing there own stuff back then. Everyone talks bout the Funk Brothers, although they were amazing, Smokey was THAT dude.

  • @jeypeepsv1 I agree with you 100%. Smokey IS Motown and for obvious reason. The greatest songwriter ever if you ask me, also Holland- Dozier-Holland. Even Bob Dylan said Smokey is "the greatest living poet" and I second that emotion (no pun intended)!!

  • @jeypeepsv1 Thank you im glad someone agrees with me! half the acts wouldnt be on as long as they were without those guys..oh and Bob Dylan saying it makes it official! lol

  • what gets me are the guys at 9:14 They look like they'd rather be at home :-)

  • The Funk brothers are the musicians that made ALL of these people.....

  • marvin gaye's performance was the best of everyone's in retrospect!

  • i will always have the motown sound in me forever that what it stands for good true music just a s the late melvin franklin said motown is americana and will be here before were born while were here and still be here after were gone and just wha t diana ross said motown is forever lol the y need the dvd and blue ray disc because its precious.

  • Stevie Wonder...nuf said.

  • i love this

  • I still have this tape....they need to release this on dvd and blu ray!

  • No mention of the Funk Brothers.

  • greatest music in the history of the world.....

  • omg..... thank u so much for putting this on. i've never been able to c this iconic show :)

  • Michael owned the show with the moonwalk

  • MJJ totally pwnd the entire show

  • people need to tell the truth. RAYNOMA GORDY was the cofounder oof Motown.

  • real singers!!!!!

  • I was 3yrs old when this aired. Lol. I came to see Richard Pryor when he messed up. I remember the next day, I was in the kitchen with my pajamas that had the feet attached to them, trying to moonwalk. Thanks for posting this.

  • where the hell are the FUNK BROTHERS???

  • @TheMastFravekator - by 83' the Funk Brothers still had yet to be recognized or even known of. Jamerson had to practically buy scalped tickets to this event (a few months before his death). Thanks to Al Slutsky who brought the Funk Brothers into the "limelight" in the late 80's.

  • @TheMastFravekator: Watch "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". It'll come to you like a freight truck.

  • thank you very much for posting this...totally appreciated...

  • I'm only 23 but I've been looking for this for at least 8 years!!

The times were not easy back then but the music is the basis for everything today!!!

  • motown slipping the south still is so very soulful..

  • well im 19 yrs old and this is all i was allowed to hear growing up and this is all i want to listen 2! i wish my generation had the chance to understand that this music today is trash it means nothin and has no feeling behind it! i wish i grew up during the motown era! Does anyone know if they have this on dvd?

  • @blackcat23meow I agree, I love old music like Elvis Presley The Jacksons Motown stars etc.

  • @blackcat23meow

    It's on DVD

  • @blackcat23meow I agree!!! I'm 19, and I believe that Motown is the best ever!!!

  • U R a God send! Thanks 4 posting this lost treasure!!!!!

  • Wow! Wow!!...just Wow!!! I watched this when I was 10 or 11. I knew and loved Motown music before then but that night drilled home how much talent went through Hitsville. One day when I was much older I thought to myself "How come the Funk Brothers aren't held with high regard as well?" So I'd like to say now that the Funk Brothers may well have been the best group of musicians ever assembled in a recording studio.

    All Hail James Jamerson.

  • Yo can you put this on a download site? I have been looking for this for a long time!!!

  • Did anybody see Diana Ross push Mary Wells? Was it cut out of the show or was it just gossip?

  • hanep astiig!!!
