this very good haha, but, i cant help but point out an inaccuracy (im a perfectionist). As an 'SS division' as he implies, they should have an SS insignia on their right collar. The skull shows that they are concentration camp guards (totenkopfverbande), which is a totally seperate structure to the military component, the waffen SS. Sorry, but i couldn't help myself.

@lando30001 Ya Zajuts149 is right, 3rd SS did wear the skulls on their uniform in combat. Tank crews also had skulls on their collars and they didn't work at concentration camps. The whole idea of the Germans using skulls was to show that they would fight to the death to defend their cause. The whole skull thing actually started with the Prussians, they were the first to wear them on their uniforms, I believe in the 1800's. It also shows that they will be loyal till the death.

Even a swastika would've been better. I would have suggested an eagle, but apparently those were, well, illegal under Hitler for some reason.

@lynth the real reason for the skull badge is that one of the very sucessful German first World War generals was von Mackensen , who had started his career as a cavalry officer in the " Totenkopf Hussars " and liked to pose for his photos in that fancy uniform , black and silver with a prominent deathshead badge .

The regiment's history went back at least as far as Waterloo ( actually won by the prussian army ) and formed a ready made " Glamour " image for Hitlers SS which they promptly used .

not entirely correct. Yes the Totenkopfverbände used to be in charge of the camps. The uniform they were is the one of the 3rd SS armoured Division "Totenkopf" which had been created in the beginning from former camp guards. Later though, that unit had no immediate contact to the regime of the camps. So their costumes are actually pretty well done and accurate.
