Ya know, she actually doesn't even look that old in this. And her voice is still fresh. By no means what she sounded like in the 1960's, but still top-notch, and as far as I'm aware, still unmatched in this role.
I also get a laugh out of how much taller she was than almost everyone else on that stage. I'd have been scared of her too...haha.
The "grandmother of the regiment". Joan's own words, not mine! Yes, she is past her prime, but as far as I'm concerned, she's only competing with herself when it comes to this role. This performance is very enjoyable and the singings is very good. Even in her 60's goal was a better Marie than some of the younger sopranos I've heard attempt this role.

I saw her do Fille around this time in Pittsburgh. She was adorable, and funny. I love her!
