  • Showoff at :29. I'm designing a small lateen rig for my OC Trident 11.

  • I think my homebuilt 1 sheet dinghy with snark sail is faster. Kayak won't plane.

  • it's obviously more sluggish than the sailboards wizing past. the advantage it has over the sailboards is it doubles as a sluggish kayak.

  • Maybe try a Sunfish sail--they're more available and will give you 75 squares, to boot. Looks like it should fit on that rig.

  • Kayrak2, thanks so much for your comments on how one might value a used Stark Sunflower!

  • I'm thinking of buying a really used Snark Sunflower sailboat (?11'). Is it worth getting and how much would you pay? (The sail is in shreds, the keel & rudder weathered but not split)

  • sorry, i am not a sailboat dealer. however, you should price - out a new sail, and consider the refinishing of the rudder and centerboard.

by the way, sunflowers eventually went to a kick up rudder which was quite a bit more effective than the wooden one. is the plastic delaminating from the styrofoam, if so, this is bad news. anyway, if you paid more than a couple of hundred i would think it was too much.

  • have you ever seen a real racing sail canoe ?

  • Let the sailboarders have thier planing, psh! Was the lateen home-made? Do you use leeboards?

  • there is leeboards in the form of 2 piece kayak paddles and a special clamoping arrangement. the sail itself and spars are from a sunflower sailboard. the rest of the rigging is custom
