Does anyone who understands his message and messages of the same caliber by others, think that asleep people have the capacity to understand this without psychedelics or some eastern philosophy?
..another clue: no republican can make that speech, no democrat can make that speech... :)
but i realised later on that Bill is not from Austin, neitehr from Texas, really...i mean not born there..but it would be great if he refered to him...
@charlottediscordian Yeah I was thinking he meant shit was gonna hit the fan with bush as president and people would realize that everythings fucked up, which kind of did happen. Someone else suggested that he's talking about Alex Jones which is probably right. Alex is batshit fucking crazy.
He is talking about Ross Perot, who ran in 92, against Bush and Clinton. He was the Ron Paul before there was a Ron Paul or George Bush. Many people had figured out our problems (liberal people) long before any uneducated tea bagger ever looked up to take notice of the facist thug take over of this country. Now the baggers and repigs want to blame "liberals" for our problems. Believe me, besides a few snips of McKennas talks and very few others, you will NEVER hear from a liberal, not allowed.
@PurpleNurpleUrple Sorry to disrupt your sensabilities, but if you don't think a pro-drug, anti-materialism, pro-earth platform and the biggest advocate for secular humanism in the histroy of mankind doesn't fit in your idea of "liberalism", thats not my problem or your lack of understanding of him. Sorry to inform you, but this is what "liberalism" was post-60's, sorry you have no understanding of our history, some of us lived it and we don't have a post-fascist definition of liberalism.
Communism is OUT of the picture? Today Oct. 28, 2010 THE USA IS A COMMUNIST RUN COUNTRY! AND Capitalism? it works if ITS BASED ON FAIR Trade....NOT FREE Trade with a GARGANTUAN INTRUSIVE UNConstitutional MURDEROUS US Federal Government at the helm, THE PLANET IS DOOMED! END THE FED, ELIMINATE THE CIA, secure our borders END THESE PROFIT WARS & GOVERN W/ OUR FOUNDERS Pledge, THE CONSTITUTION & WE THE PEOPLE will have Liberty & JUSTICE FOR ALL! VIVA LA CONSTITUTION R3VOLUTION!
If you want anyone to listen to you you should start by sounding calmer. Take this as a feedback from some complete stranger on the internet. Nothing personal, just a suggestion of switching the strategy.
Also, you must not forget that it's not only about the United States.
Wrote this on another posting of this snipet, the odd ball he's refering to from Austin was Ross Perot, ran as independent, had all kinds of charts and graphs and was against both parties and was probably right about he's ideas but was for many to "nutty" and thus wasn't aceptable to enough to get elected, showed well I will say considering.
Thanks much for posting this...it shows that Terence was a prophet, in the true sense of the word. Not only in the psychedelic world, was he brilliant.., but in the political field, as well.
I love McKenna but I think when he refers to 'scientism' and so on he shouldn't equate science with the ills of a monetary system, corrupt leaders, scrambling for resources, etc, because science unhindered can bring us up and out of the challenges that hold us back--i.e food, water, shelter, energy, quality of life, and on and on "Capitalism needs to separate from materialism." That's an oxy-moron, and selling light, or ones and zero's, is patently ridiculous.
Sciencism: Being Irrationally rational. When you think that science is THEE only way to understanding you no longer believe in science. You believe in sciencism... Its not science its a kind religion.
@Hockeyjason I tend towards 'believing' as few things as possible. I don't like making claims on certainty without any evidence, and science by the way is just a methodology. It's a process. You don't 'believe' in it, you use it to find out about the world around you, and its agnostic by that very nature. I've also never met a single scientist who said it's the only way, only the most effective method in denoting empirical truths. Irrationally rational? That's semantic gobbledegook.
I still hold the complaint that McKenna premises his argument on the assumption that capitalism IS in fact the system by which the world is being run, without bothering to define what capitalism is.
Dont get me wrong folks...I totally admire Terence McKenna but in the beginning of his speech the remarks about capitalism vs. democracy are totally naive.
Democracy was never the opposite of Capitalism. The birth of free market capitalism and "massdictatorship" alias "Democracy" falls in the same timeperiod! Nowadays it`s even more obvious than ever - that our political system is just a cheap trick of the "real" masters (large mulinational companys and their owners).

it gives growth greed and consume consume consume,
thats half are problem is we eat what is in front of us

like t.v. first off it should be free and free to broadcast, but
because capatilism you have to pay for t.v. and to have a broadcast not only that it's full of propaganda for more buying, the world is so fucked what should be is just a blur
no i think maybe ron paul, because TMK talks about somebody saying 'these parties both lie to you' and ron paul does that. and he's from somewhere in texas.
@mos619 i don't think it's Bush...because it seems like a positive character - like he is hoping for he would be the one to say it...and Bush is not at all a pecuuuuliar item in the mix, and Terence McKenna is faaar to insightfull not to see it, c'mon...i used to think that he meant Bill Hicks, as he was a peculiar item in teh mix influencing the public and speaking the "my fellow americans, you have been lied to, screwed AND abused by those two criminal parties (...)"
My guess is Alex Jones because he is talking about the issue of republican/democrat which Alex is very vehement about, saying he prescribes to neither party.
I love everything terence has to say, he is a great hero of mine, but I take issue with his economics and therefore, his politics, at least partially. Truth be told, we don't have a capitalist, free market system in the US. This unfortunately is the case on many levels of the economy, but most fundamentally at the level which ties together the entire thing: money. Our money is controlled and distributed by a fascistic cartel of men empowered and protected by government. This is no free market.
Yes, this is what I agree with as well. True open source freely distributed capitalism on the production of one's effort is a very new idea still. We're getting there faster thanks to the insights of greats like McKenna I would concede. Because he is correct in that once capitalism is really "here" we will not have Walmarts... They won't be necessary, at all. The future will look like the past as we shed these learning tools. The world is not ending though! Thank everyone so much for thinking!
yeah i heard him say something like that before ... that noone is in control if it all ... its absolutely impossible that someone could control the collective conciousness.... yet they got a pretty good grip id say ...
342 viewers? that sucks, more people do need to see this. its pathetic that bullshit videos like chocolate rain and the fucking mole rat thing with the look get millions of hit a piece and no one raves when someone comes forward like Terrance and speaks some real wisdom. it is obvious that most people simply don't understand, perhaps can't. i suppose this is just one of things that he is talking about in the clip. this tapes series that it is from is brilliant, i just finished it the other day..
I agree with you 100 percent. Terrence McKenna's wisdom cannot be understood by the common dinominator because the common dinominator is who he is talking about.
