Looking at some of the roots of heavy metal lately - Blue Cheer, Steppenwolf, Dick Dale (all credited for widely different reasons) it's interesting that Blue Cheer's main contribution to the genre was another Rock n Roll era cover (Summertime Blues) Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't - it's all up to us listeners I guess.
