@Graph1cz What they're trying to say is that both of those should easily be able to handle two JL Slash 1000/1s (one per). The reason that is is because the JL Slash 1000/1 pushes out 1000 watts of power at ohms ranging from 1.5-4 ohms. It's feeding out, at the most, 1000 watts at 4 ohms and those subs can easily handle 1000 watts at 3 ohms. You would actually be under-powering those subs if you gave them one of those amps each. On the JL website, they say it can handle up to 1500 watts.
@XboxHacking101 1000 watts is enough for each. These subs aren't that awesome as people want them to be. People are just easily impressed. They last past the warranty and then JL wants to charge you $350-$400 to fix it no matter how minor the problem. I've installed every size W7 they make.
@MrsClark1989 I've been installing for 20 years, and W7's do nothing for me sealed. I have a W7 sealed box made by JL right now collecting dust. No one on craigslist would buy it. I'm not saying all W7s break, but just highly overrated and overpriced. I like real hard hitting subs and JL does not make a spl sub. Call them if you don't believe me. You'd save money getting a Ssa zcon or xcon, and they will kill the W7.
... And the higher the frequency the box is tuned to, the more erratically your sub will fluctuate when you hit any note lower that the tuned frequency. The lower the frequency of the music, the more damage the sub is taking. So say your box is tuned @ 33 hz and then you open the trunk; raising it to 42hz. if you were playing a 20 hz note, the damage would increase when you had opened the trunk because you are playing extremely below the tuning of the box. I hope this cleared some fog.
Okay, everybody asking why he says that it is bad for the sub is fairly simple to understand. You know how ported boxes have a certain frequency they are ported to, well so does the car. When you have the trunk shut(and all the windows up if you're in a suv like me) you car is simulating a sealed box which has no tuning frequency. When he opens the trunk, it then simulates a ported box, giving it a tuning frequency, the bigger the trunk opens, the higher the frequency is raised.
That actually is only partially true, if the woofers are at 100% excursion, then you open the trunk, it will make them move more because the air mass gets infinitely larger once the metal trunk is opened. So I think it could make them jump the magnet gap if you open the trunk really fast, but other than that it is hard to damage them by just opening the trunk.
I have a woofer that sits in my room, at full blast I can open the door really fast and it doesn't do anything to it.

@itsvinny00 Makes no sense, you underpower a sub when you turn down the volume, so in theory every sub is underpowered because 98% of that power is blown off as heat. American or made in chine, doesn't matter. Its rated for a certain power for a reason. His box is fine, if its really tuned to 32hz he would be getting a much better deeper flat response than in a sealed box which tends to peak at a very high tuning and be lackluster in the lower end of the subsonic spectrum.
@Graph1cz i had my 13W7 on a Zapco Sp3000.1 3000W rms and it mooved like crazy ... didn`t get warm or anything ... that 1000W is waaaay underpowered .
@Graph1cz You can 5000 rms if you wanted, you just need to set the gain right. Thorhammer have 2 dc 12 xl i believe and have the stetsom 14k or 7k, can remember, but over the power rating of the sub, still ok, just keep up your voltage and set the gain with a o scope

@itsvinny00 They can't handle that much power on one single coil your an idiot. Ported if done right will outperform a sealed box any day of the week. You just have to have the box properly tuned and for those subs I believe JL calls for 35 Hz but you could get away with 25 just fine and it'll sound great. The subs are under powered but using two amps to power is un-recommended because you will run into cancellation. He needs to get a more powerful amp not slap tons of them on there.

this box was custom made. 2 seperate chambers. tuned to around 32 hz i believe.. this was a long time ago that this system worked Lol. was only 1 1000/1 on both w7s also.

If I just installed 1 12 W7 would I have alot more room? I have a new a4 but i think the trunk is the same. were you unable to fit that box in without removing the spare cover? Was that box custom or did you just buy it?

Wow this is nice very impressive. Very clean crazy bass they say FI BTL is better my thoughts they dont sound clear and tight like this. I look for what sounds better not louder I like clean bass

Nice set up. If you're planning on adding a second 1000/1, look into an HO alt and atleast one extra battery with high AH.
