I expected something more - well... traditional. Having said that, I laughed lots! I'm British and please don't change it. By the way, Merry Christmas!
Although I love this song, I should point out that since the language is named after OUR country (ENGLish), that means you're spelling the words wrong, not us.
As an American living in London, I fell out of my seat. It could be worse though. I sort of understand what people are saying to me (sort of) and I find myself spelling practice "practise" these days.
But the Scots -- I have no idea what any of them are saying,
moved to England from America a year ago...my husband is always saying how American's don't speak proper English. I am going to play this for him this evening! I laughed so hard i snorted!
I'm English born and bred.,. And this had me in fits! It's very funny! I'm sorry to see it has caused so much antagonism. It is a common behaviour of some Americans to think that their way is best, and everyone should think and act like them, I'm sure that this song is a play on that attitude. The best person to laugh at is oneself, after all!
I'm sure it was all in good humour and I wasn't offended (of course true English is spoken by the English!)
Gay means carefree, not homosexual, it has just been corrupted into reference to homosexuality. And we say toilet in proper English, loo is just colloquialism. Bearing the Latin heritage, words like colour are meant to be spelt with a u. Again the names Dick and Willie have been corrupted along with Fanny and Jack
Just one problem, English comes from England that is why it is English i.e. from England. The language of English belongs to the people of England not Americans. You ppl can just speak you silly American language, whatever you say nobody but the English can speak English perfectly because it is their language. Hello it was from England that English went to America, who later corrupted it. LEAVE ENGLISH FOR THE ENGLISH! DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on Eddy, we are very grateful to have your English language to use in America. Although I wish German had became our national language (which it almost did way back in the day by a vote in Congress - English won by one vote). Anyway, I LOVE England and it's people. As far as the language goes though, we have way more people than England, so the language is really ours now, as we have the majority of the people who speak it on a regular basis. It's all good, dawg!!!
Awesome comment. Really though. Very educated. (That's sarcasm you ignorant douche.) In actuality, English has been evolving for a number of years now. The English we speak today is neither like that which Americans spoke years ago, neither like that which the British spoke years ago. And no, the language you speak today is no more legitimate than the one we speak. In fact, they are startlingly similar. You're anti-Americanism is annoying and un-developed. Scottland Wales & NI are kickass!
English is certainly evolving and definitely has many dialects because it is now an universal language, the language has been adopted by different regions and has been moulded to their own way, just like you Americans who speak American, Chinese who speak Chinglish (a chinese dialect of the English language) , But
American and Chinglish is not English.
Because English is of and by the people of England and the Received pronunciation is the way to properly speak English.
Americans speak a much more pure form of English, of all the accents in the english speaking world the one from the upper midwest of the US is the most understandable to english as second language speakers
lol this song is pretty dang true wtf is a lu i knew a lu once he was pissed because people called him bathroom XD lol not sure if i spelled lu right oh well B A T H R O O M merry christmas
@samstokes80 I love making up parodies to songs, and I give yours an A+, Sam!!! I love it and it is very clever, indeed. I sure would enjoy hearing more of your songs. You also have a very nice voice. Thank you!!!
Although, I realize that I'm an American and not necessarily well-versed in the King's English, I get the vague impression from your random scrawling of letters and punctuation that you are offended by the song. To set the record straight, this song is not meant to make fun of British people, but is more of a commentary on the fact that most American people are not aware of half of the British idioms in the Christmas carols we sing.

P.S.
I love the promise of quid pro quo when an Englishman and an American talk...
When Americans say "pants" we think they are talking about underwear.
Braces are again a frisky undergarment for one and a retainer for the other,
A rubber is an eraser, not a condom
and so on and so forth....
Seasons greetings to all, and please laugh at yourselves, it's good for the heart!
