  • Great work! Persian Carpet!

  • Nice! I'm trying to learn more about "Kototama", but there are a few references in portuguese that I can find here. Accepting suggestions, portuguese and english references. Thanks everybody!

  • Sending peace to Sendai at this horrible, horrible moment.....

  • what effect is this work ?

  • personal religious faith?

i meditate for sure but avoid praying to spirits besides God and stay away from certain things like hatian voodism rituals and much more seriously satanic rituals

osensei from my understanding was anything but satanic but what is being said here and can this meditation be performed without a teacher or will i damage my body like certain other ''sacred'' styles without proper instruction

    thanks in advance

  • forgive me for any ignorance but i am trying to learn perhaps somone has ansewers

First off very beautifully done it sounds similar to Buddhist mantras, Hindu yogic sound meditations and even Islamic Quranic verses read with ''qirat''

i am curious tho and tho i do not want to be that guy... what is being said. at one point it seems he chants true victory is self victory right now.

su is the shinto sound of creation

is this a type of prayer

can i perform this without compromising my

  • hello, john, and how wonderful!

you have magicked back all our sendai past - our families, our lives, the temple on the hill, and above all, the never to be forgotten nishiyama sensei. and you have filled me - still are, as i listen to you chanting - with deep gratitude, as i remember ryokan's one robe one bowl, and so much more, and so much more. aren't i lucky, aren't we lucky, to be around still, breathing. love to you and family, visnja

  • Brillant, thankyou.

  • This might be the meaning of kototama: the secret sounds They clean body and mind, open the channel to higher realms su: birth, yu: it is: mu: it is not : in total birth of dualism A: opening, first sound O: integration U: birth E: expansion I: ascension masakatsu agatsu katsuhayabi THE REAL VICTORY - SELF VICTORY - MAY THIS MOMENT BE HERE AND NOW AUN=OM Namu Amenamurakumo kuki samuhara ryuo: protector deity of Aikido, identified with O-Sensei Try it out! And if its only the vocals...
  • I did it for the first time today, but i wanna know, what is this for?

  • @ticosexy22

    It is spiritual development

  • Thanks very much for posting this, I have searched everywhere to get the cd without success, but this link has opened the door.

  • @Atmodisha

Please dont try teaching yourself.Get out there and find an affiliated Teacher within a Dojo.It is so much more better to practice this amongst a good spiritual teacher.

The immense feeling of energy of the other people around you I wll not lie is to put in words hard to do,But I will tell you,You will feel the energy around you from those more experianced. And benefit from it,All I can do is encourage you to find a good teacher who can teach you before trying it at home,

  • @Atmodisha

Sorry its not dangerous to do at home,My fear is you may not benefit if you are not doing something right.

Best wishes and best of luck

  • So... Who won?

  • Aikido founder: Moriei Ueshiba. Successor: Kisshomar in 1969. 'Budo is not the means of felling the opponent by force. True Budo calls for bringing inner energy of the universe in order, protecting peace, molding and preserving everything in nature in right form: a procreative force, producing love which leads to creative life through rigorous training of the body, mental development and spiritual growth.

If you have not been taught this in aikido, then you have not been taught aikido.

  • You got that right. Binging all of this elements together , molding them that makes a true aikido.

  • I thought kototama was something like a word forming an effect in the physical world for others to see. I would rather call this chanting. Well, that's my idea of kototama.

  • at one level this is a deformation of voiced kototama by an arrogant buffoon, but that said i think this foolish professor is nonetheless doing the best he can, under the circumstances...

  • That's quite a harsh comment. Care to elaborate?

  • Demonstrate.

  • nice judgement... care to enlighten us all?

  • true victory is over oneself, competion is for the hollow soul.

  • this is John Stevens idea of the true way

  • i wouldn't compare John Stevens to

Osensei - still what he does has it's

merits - we all have our own opinions

  • BTW, the man has great breath control.

  • I thought 'kototama' was based in Shintoistic practice and based on the Kojiki and Nihon shiki ?

  • Yup, it is.

  • Seems to me there are a few things added here but I could be wrong.

    Thanks for the clip.

  • Sensei - quite simply thank you for that unique glimpse of kotodama practice.

I thank you for showing the world this pre-religious 'knowing' - one that OSensei treasured and understood.

I only wish I will be around for Kotodama to take its place back in peoples heart - and OSensei's dreams come true!

    Gassho Sensei

  • takes all sorts i suppose.

  • Well, according to O-Sensei, this is the true way. Personally, I don't practice kotodama either. But still I can respect the sincere following of the way displayed here. Why can't you?

  • oh brother.

  • Interesting, thank you!

  • John Stevens and many of us... we aren't "asians"!

But the main goal of O'Sensei was to build a Golden Bridge to link us all. No matter the geographical position, religion, political system or egotistic belief.

Aikido is one of the "do" to unify Body and Spirit.

Masakatsu Agatsu Katsuhayabi is the door to true Budo.

Only the ones who accept to die...can born again enlightened and realized!

"Ban Yu Ai Go": Spirit of protecting and loving all living beings! That's true Aiki DO.Love and be Loved!

  • I've tried to do this on my own, but with no example to follow it was obviously nothing like this. Thanks a million John Stevens Sensei, your research on aikido is valued the world over!

  • Why is he doing buddhist chanting in a church?

  • Actually, simply because we were looking for a spiritual and great sounding place nearby... and some people at the shugyo knew the pastor.

  • Isn't that um, blasphemy?

  • @Stoffie100 Thanks for posting this it really means a lot for people on the Path to finding the true Budo. It is extraordinary how I found this link, just at a time where everything seems to be coming together in the Search. I really believe that these sounds are triggers to awaken our dormant source of power and connect to the real spirit of Aiki.

  • "There is no form"

Why do you call it a church?

It's only blasphemy if you see that way!

I only see a nice place with a very big reverberation time...

Kotodama is universal... just like every atom in that building!

PS: Don't tell anyone but... he's using a muslim rug!!! HEHEHE

  • I guess it is a church because a church has pews. Rugs and carpets are not specifically Muslim in nature; it's like saying Italian Spagetti is Catholic. Most rugs that I know of is either Turkish, Indian, Pakistani or Persian. By the way, Kotodama has its roots in Buddhism. To say that it is universal is to say that everyone does it. Does everyone in the world chant Buddhist sutras? I don't think so. Please think before you speak.

  • "Kototama is Universal". To say that is saying that it functions through the Universe. Just like every atom in that building.

Many religions chant their "sutras" too:

    Christians,Muslims,Jews,Hindus,African Religions,South American Religions,Native American Religions...

Why did you hit me with your "oppinion"...?

Did I hurt you in any way...?

    If so i'm sorry...!

But in my heart and conscience..."I don't think so. Please think before you speak."

    love and light.

    bruno

  • Kotodama is uniquely Buddhist. I am Asian, so I know exactly what it is. "Sutra" is actually a sanskrit word for "book", so when used in the English language, it is clearly refering to Hindu & Buddhist text. Just because everything is the same to you doesn't mean it is. Reality is often not what you perceive it to me. True satori is able to discern and see everything as it is, not as what you want them to be. Like what Jesus said: "The truth will set you free".

  • You're still loosing for your ego...don't let him win! Teach him to love...not to hate!

Your heart is still "an uniquely" asian one!

You are saying that every other religions don't have their "books".

"Just because everything is the same to you doesn't mean it is" No comments on this one..."opinnion beating" once again

"True satori is able to discern and see everything as it is, not as what you want them to be" - this one is the most truthfull sentence humankind reached...breathe this words.

  • It hurts me to see you trying to mask your ignorance, instead of trying to learn from what I have to say to you. If you want me to see you as an equal, please go do some studying instead of trying to debate with people with your superficial knowledge and flowery languange. To love is also to speak the truth. I am telling you now that you suck. Go improve yourself.

  • By the way...i'll share it with you, you're a good friend!

"Sutra" is a sanskrit word for "rope or thread binding something togheter".

It's not the rope for itself...it's the action of the rope binding something.

So we can say that... our unbalanced Egos are "Sutring" us to Maya kingdom!

    Once again...

I don't want to be better than you...

I want to be better than me...and share it with you!

    You are asian. I'm european.

    We are universal human beeings.

Or is it just an illusion of my Ego?

  • Books are binded together, hence they are called 'sutras'. Noob.

  • @peabean Shinto dude!

  • @peabean

Aqustics....The sound is much more defined with the aqustics.

  • @peabean Shinto or buddhist ?

  • I believe the work of Professor John Stevens will prove to be the most important research available to the mastery of Aikido.

    Thank you very much.

  • wow

  • Thanks

  • Awsome I have read many of Sensei Stevens books, one of which has Kototama in it. Never got my head around it. But now I shall endeavour to try again. Thank you Sensei Stevens

  • That was great. I've always wanted to learn more about Kototama. Thank you Stevens Sensei.
