Not true at all... Even a base C6 Z51 Targa ran 0.98G (Avg) in the skid pad and over 70 mph through the slalom. It's much lower, much wider, only weighs 3,180 pounds, has 245 width front & 285 width rear tires and the suspension is stiffer. How could it not handle as good as a slower, taller, thinner, heavier car with thinner tires? Think about it. Speed, handling and braking are the corvettes attributes. That's why they win all their races including the 24 hours of LeMans

@luminaeus This was a race on pavement, so that's what we're comparing. Every time a WRX loses I see the same comments..."Well let's try dirt." The test was pavement and you lost! Let's put AWD on the Vette and it would have vanished out of sight before you shifted from first.
In drag races, AWD only has the advantage from launch. After that, it's just extra weight and friction for the engine to overcome. AWD on a Corvette would slow it down and make this a more even race.
Of course people are going to bring up "Let's race it on dirt." That's what the car was made for.

But he is still doing it because it's the fastest way for the STI to take corners like that onroad. Not sure why the Ken Block can't drift comment is relative. Rally is a very different kind of sport which is about speed not style, the gymkhana work even was more training for speed in a stylish way. Very different sports and not really comparable skill-wise.
@losganjaless Well partially because I'm into WRC, offroad is badass, also though because it is unfair to argue the merits of the STI without taking it into account, as the engine itself for starters was specifically designed to meet WRC requirements hence why it is small also because the STI was built for offroad, the differentials are too tight to handle ideally onroad, hence why onroad racing with an STI is best done with those long drifts you see in the Ken Block videos and other places.
@losganjaless For straight line performance I would absolutely agree with you, however the Boxer 4 has two very large advantages 1. it is WRC legal and 2. The lower center of gravity provided by the boxer is very good for handling allowing it more ground clearance for the same handling characteristics of a lower car.

Other than the ZR1, Corvettes are bought by guys in their 50s going through their midlife crisis. They can not afford a Ferrari or a Porsche, so they buy a used vette for 30K or so. It's pathetic. Any idiot that thinks that Corvettes don't have world class handling is just that, an idiot. You can't even put these 2 in the same class in any performance category. The C6 makes 430 hp, but also gets better mpg and clearly displayed how raw power works. To pull a car down and pass it in that distance took alot of torque which few foreign cars know anything about. Stop talking out of your asses and go check the track numbers.
Spinning happens when you have alot of power to the rear wheels and probably regular street radials. 2010 manual corvettes all have launch control so good luck racing those.
Such cry babies. The corvette is a world class performance car and the Subie is a rally car at best. You can't compare the 2 at all. The Subie didn't keep up . It was walked by a more powerful car that wasted many seconds at the beginning. If the C6 hooked as well as the Subie, it would have been very ugly at the end.

back in 2005/2006 the starting price for a corvette was actually about 44,500 and STi's were moving off of the lot for about 35k. The Corvette is MUCH faster from 30 to 100 ( as you can see in this video .) The Corvette also gets 25mpg on the highway AND is on kelley blue books top 10 best resale value list. If you look at the cost of owning the car for 5 years and selling the Corvette is faster, cheaper, sounds better, more fun (RWD is more playful), and its an adult car, tricks are for kids
The Subaru requires all wheel drive to compete with a world class sports car. Let's put all wheel on the corvette and the driver of the Subaru would still be scratching his head.
I don't know if you know this but the STi IS a world class sports car. Not only does the Subaru require AWD to compete with a Corvette, it also requires half the cylinder count & a 14.5psi boosted turbo as well. In terms of efficiency/cost, the Subaru is a better choice.
take the corvette out of a straight line race ie 1/4 mile and put the in a racing track and make no mistake about it when i say, if the subaru does a lap in 1.30, the corvette will probably complete the lap in 1.40......... any one that knows there cars will agree......... subaru is not designed to go in a straight line, its an all terrain rally car......... and when u compare stats, like cylinders and size of engines, the subaru is a much better built car............

Well, the Subi had the advantage with the AWD launch but over powered on the other end. C6 Z51 would be obliterated in the dirt seeing it was made for street surface. Ofcourse the BASE Vette Z51 out performed the top of the line Subaru WRX STI Spec C ($40+) around the Nurnburgring 7:59 vs 8:06 despite RWD vs AWD. It also out performed others like Viper SRT10 and BMW M3. In addition the Z51 Vette did a .95 (tied with EVO) vs. the STI's .90. Stock for Stock Draq or Twisties the Vette WINS.

STI's aren't even entirely comfortable on asphalt at all and certainly aren't built for drag or even circuit racing. In drag races, AWD only has the advantage from launch. After that, it's just extra weight and friction for the engine to overcome. AWD on a Corvette would slow it down and make this a more even race.
Of course people are going to bring up "Let's race it on dirt." That's what the car was made for.

But he is still doing it because it's the fastest way for the STI to take corners like that onroad. Not sure why the Ken Block can't drift comment is relative. Rally is a very different kind of sport which is about speed not style, the gymkhana work even was more training for speed in a stylish way. Very different sports and not really comparable skill-wise.

@losganjaless Well partially because I'm into WRC, offroad is badass, also though because it is unfair to argue the merits of the STI without taking it into account, as the engine itself for starters was specifically designed to meet WRC requirements hence why it is small also because the STI was built for offroad, the differentials are too tight to handle ideally onroad, hence why onroad racing with an STI is best done with those long drifts you see in the Ken Block videos and other places.

The lower center of gravity provided by the boxer is very good for handling allowing it more ground clearance for the same handling characteristics of a lower car.

The C6 makes 430 hp, but also gets better mpg and clearly displayed how raw power works. back in 2005/2006 the starting price for a corvette was actually about 44,500 and STi's were moving off of the lot for about 35k. The Corvette is MUCH faster from 30 to 100 ( as you can see in this video .) The Corvette also gets 25mpg on the highway AND is on kelley blue books top 10 best resale value list. If you look at the cost of owning the car for 5 years and selling the Corvette is faster, cheaper, sounds better, more fun (RWD is more playful), and its an adult car, tricks are for kids

I don't know if you know this but the STi IS a world class sports car. Not only does the Subaru require AWD to compete with a Corvette, it also requires half the cylinder count & a 14.5psi boosted turbo as well. In terms of efficiency/cost, the Subaru is a better choice.

take the corvette out of a straight line race ie 1/4 mile and put the in a racing track and make no mistake about it when i say, if the subaru does a lap in 1.30, the corvette will probably complete the lap in 1.40......... any one that knows there cars will agree......... subaru is not designed to go in a straight line, its an all terrain rally car......... and when u compare stats, like cylinders and size of engines, the subaru is a much better built car............

@spongebobn0pants Could not agree more. I have driven both and like both a lot. The STI is built to go fast and turn. The Vette is built to go straight and fast with a turning that is great but not quite as good as the STI.
Anybody hating on the STI has never driven one. Same goes for the Corvette.

And look at the price difference between the two...
A new Vet Coupe is $49,000...And thats the most basic one..
and a New STi is $32,000..
The Vet has a V8 with what 430 HP stock?
The STi has a 4cyl 2.5L with a turbo and gets 305 stock.
Duh the Vet would win in a drag race.
But it would be obliterated in Subarus home turf..The corners and dirt.

Well, the Subi had the advantage with the AWD launch but over powered on the other end. C6 Z51 would be obliterated in the dirt seeing it was made for street surface. Ofcourse the BASE Vette Z51 out performed the top of the line Subaru WRX STI Spec C ($40+) around the Nurnburgring 7:59 vs 8:06 despite RWD vs AWD. It also out performed others like Viper SRT10 and BMW M3. In addition the Z51 Vette did a .95 (tied with EVO) vs. the STI's .90. Stock for Stock Draq or Twisties the Vette WINS.

Can we just accept that it's fun to watch them race but they are completely incomparable cars built for completely different things. STI's aren't even entirely comfortable on asphalt at all and certainly aren't built for drag or even circuit racing. Rating the virtues of a corvette by its performance offroad would be even sillier than rating an STI's performance by it's ability to go fast in a straight line on asphalt.

@xj220se no the vette zo6 cannot keep up with the new gtr and it will not beat a sti in the circuit dont believe me go to a local road track the only way the vette will when if there is enough long straightaway but if its all corner the sti would when ,,, how i know i have a vette but its not a zo6 tho, but at our local track most awd car dominate the corners and the rwd on the 1/4

You don't think it'll smoke an STi with ease on any circuit? Yes, it will... Maybe you should learn how to drive your vette, man. These tiny 4-cylinder AWD are only good at really small/tight tracks if anything, why do you think they're boring and cheap?

@BetoG34 Probably wouldn't work, Corvette is already struggling to keep the weight down, an AWD system would add a lot of weight and probably result in it being slower around the corners and have a much, much slower top speed.
