this reminds me of all the hokey pokey music its just soo nice walking in bars that play these kind of musics i'm going for it 2 i can express soo much feeling in this. i started playing 7 months ago am 23 years old but could never ever play any blues had no rithem for it:O and than all of sudden i heard this and it all came:O now its going great haha. this makes u feel great
The Charleston has nothing to do with South Carolina. Any fan of Jazz music knows James P Johnson was from Charleston, West Virginia and composed this while living in New York City, as did the dance.
However, if South Carolina wants to take credit for starting a civil war they got stomped in, electing Strom Thurmond, finishing 50th in education, giving the world Jesse Jackson and having the most governors that sleep around on their spouse thats OK
@astephens1963 James P. Johnson is from New Brunswick, New Jersey and the Charleston is named for Charleston, South Carolina, note this quote: "in 1913, while playing at dances for black longshoremen emigrated from South Carolina, Johnson composed a tune that would become the basis for a dance rage ten years later. The song was the Charleston, which premiered in 1923 in an African-American revue called Runnin' Wild"
@Holycrap27 first I was like "hey, that's not a nice thing to say, Bob is real good " then I saw the camera zoom out and I was like "crap, he's right..." lol
A wonderful performance Mr. Milne. Your rendition just getting richer and more full bodied as you went further into the piece. You seem to have fun playing too. I am curious also ( like "inzerpianos" below) as to whether you are related to the great Frank Milne who recorded/cut so many outstanding piano roll music pieces for player pianos during the "roaring twenties". Maybe Bob's friend "docrosko" can respond on the question. Thanks, Sturdley
oh yea, and what the heel is with all the old timers? more people my age need to listen to songs like this. and what happened to all the brothers and sisters in jazz?
Fun dance, wing dance, will be a back number, but the Charleston, the new Charleston, that dance is surely a comer! Sometime, you'll dance it one time, that dance called the Charleston, made in South Caroline!
Carolina, Carolina, lost you on the map. With a new tune, funny blue tune, with a peculiar snap. You may not be able to hop away, the Foxtrot just took an eerie sway. You've got rhythm in those feet, now do this dance and do it neat! Charleston, Charleston, made in Carolina. Some dance, some prance, I'll say there's nothing finer than the Charleston, Charleston, lord how you can shuffle! Every step you do leads to something new, man I'm telling you, it's a lopazoo!
Bob is a good friend of mine. Can you believe that he NEVER has had a piano lesson. Warning ... don't EVER play pool against this man. He beat Brady Matthews.
1:20 for those who wanna here the song

@Holycrap27 You are in the audience. What color is your hair? Be sure to tell us because apparently, according to you, hair color is important.

Could you send me the score music for this dance it is absolutly amazing!
Or if you could point me in the right direction to find it.
Please someone help!!!!

Bob Milne doesn't have scores of music. In fact, the last time I talked to him (last week) he told me he doesn't really even read piano music.
You should get his patriotic medley from his website: AMAZING.
