They're practically the same when it comes to gameplay, so all that's left is aesthetics; the audio/video aspect. The NES is nice to look at from a historical perspective, looking at what the NES could achieve late in its lifespan. One might also like the overall retro design. The SNES has more going on in terms of color, backgrounds, and audio, so it's more pleasing to me.
In all honesty the snes ver. Has way more detail as in the back ground and blocks, etc. But the new ver. Felt much more magical when I was a kid due to the lack of those details, the overworld was detailed and had a lot going on but once u stepped into a level it was ur job to finish it but the game didn't push that down ur throat, it was morerelaxed
@KevinIsSoAwsome I prefferred the old school graphical style on the nes. Plus, I think all the marios looked the same on super mario allstars, which was a bit disapointing. It's also a shame that the 25 years edition on the Wii wasn't revamped to look next gen
@ABSabio and also in the remake when you get to a new world and you loose all your lives you just get all your lives back and restart the world over. the original you just started the whole game over
All Stars is better and is always better on everything. Even the Advance is better since you play any level anytime and can carry the game around with you. Seinfeld is Unfunny on the original.
@ZAPPSOFT I grew up with NES version too, but when I got the All-Stars for SNES when I started buying up old games a few years back, I was amazed by the detail in the backgrounds and the variations in colors that the NES didn't have (I didn't have a SNES back in those days, so I never saw it before then). I didn't mind the music. I thought it was okay but I don't really pay much attention to it anyway. That said, I play the NES version way more than the SNES one.
i remember when i saw & dit hear the difference between those 2 versions by my 2 friends houses, i was like wooooooooooooooooooooooooooow it just simply had blowed my mind, i trough wooaahhh those supermariobros series in supermarioworld perspective whaaoooh that,s cool, ijust cut,nt belive it,it was just like the skip from sd to hd.
but the nes versions has a hicher replay value since you can,t save and it feels also more intense.
Si en verdad que mejoro notablemente los graficos pero como dice FluffyTheGryphon el sonido es pobre le quita diversion es como si lo jugara en camara lenta....
@nintendo27027 ya but mario back then had to be perfict and sega had just got thare 18 bit console out on the market remember sega dose what nentendo dosent remember graphics are not the games
Check out the stage background. Notice the clouds, platforms, hills and trees all scrolling by? In comparison, the NES has nothing in the background. It's just one solid color with an occasional single cloud reminiscent of the first game. Then there's the increased use of colors.
Anyway, an excellent comparison video. It's nice to see the subtle and not so subtle differences.
I would say this
1st: GBA version
2nd: SNES version
3rd: NES version

Still prefer the NES versions of the Super Mario games over their All-Star counterparts. Less is sometimes more.

If you want HD, choose SNES; If you want retro, choose NES. If you want to do something new, find a pirated version.

mmmm, the player in NES is more skilled that the player in SNES...
so... The more advanced the console goes, the more stupid the gamer becomes...
Ok... now I don't want a Wii..

I prefer the 8 bit anyday. Of course its what I grew up with and I agree the music stinks in the 16 bit version.

@AICJDR Not the one you could play from the title screen, that was All Stars only. It was basically the same, but there were differences.

I hated the remade 16-bit music. It was vastly inferior to that 8-bit sound.

Did the Super NES try to keep the original graphic quality? I'm not seeing the 16bit difference with this game..

@scott231us Really? You couldn't tell the difference? Try watching it in full-screen.
I actually think the SMB3 remake looks better than Super Mario World.
