I'm a psychology major and I'm doing a research project on the issue, and conversion thereapy is not recognized, nor is it recommended by the American Psychaitric Association. Many thereapists refuse to do such thereapy as it is seen as dangerous since it can lead to suicide. Those who successfully complete this therapy were not forced to go to therapy, but instead went on their own and WANTED to change because of religious or other reasons in most cases.
I had a similar experience, my parents thought I couldn't be gay and successful and tried to find me a therapist like this.
In spite of their negative reaction, I've actually never been happier - I'm moving in with my boyfriend of a year, my old friends have commented on how much more laid back I am, and I've made a ton of NEW friends who totally make up for the lack of affection my parents have shown me.
Regardless of backlash, coming out is by far the BEST choice I've ever made.

So called "Repairative or Conversion" Therapy does more harm than good. Some people end up needing therapy to recover from it. It focuses on teaching you all the negative stereotypes and self-loathing that closeted self-hating gays use to keep their emotions bottled up. Ex-Gays are not happy campers.
Even worse this can leave people with unmet needs that get expressed in ways that are harmful to others. Even the American Psychological Association is against this "Therapy".

The best story I've ever heard related to psycologists goes like this: a friend of friend told his parents that he was gay and they took him to a psycologist. He was like 5 to 10 minutes inside and after that the psicologist came out with him and tells the parents that they are the ones needing of an appointment.

It would be very funny to prove the psych bi.Eyes dialate when thinking of something enjoyable,Name a commonly accepted hunk and watch for bigger pupils,Its an involuntary action and can be triggered even by feelings the person isn't aware of.
On another note you can rewrite yourself to be straight, but that mental ability is almost unheard of outside the age 0-7 & is normally not willed, but triggered by trauma & often uncontrolled.Also note that doing this could damage your mind beyond repair.

As a Therapy and Counseling major the type of therapy is called conversion or reparative therapy it is based on changing the behavior. Basically you are still gay you have the thoughts and feeling but you don't act upon them either you go "str8" or abstain from any sex. As a gay male I find that horrible. There is no proof that this type of therapy works or is sustainable. In my opinion this Psych, has had sex or fantasies with men. And if this guy does anything you dont like report him to DORA.

The best story I've ever heard related to psycologists goes like this: a friend of friend told his parents that he was gay and they took him to a psycologist. He was like 5 to 10 minutes inside and after that the psicologist came out with him and tells the parents that they are the ones needing of an appointment.
It's so stupid to think that one can change his/her sexuality. Have those blessed straight souls who think this ever thought of reversing the situation? Trying to get them to be gay?

As a psychology major I must say that this guy is most likely a complete whack. By studying psychobiology, psychology, and human sexuality we learn that there is nothing about homosexuality that needs to be fixed. The only methods I've heard about with this "gay to straight" crap includes breaking the patient down and trying to make them feel like homosexuality is wrong and shock therapy to condition them. It's completely disgusting!

I don't understand how parents can tell you that you need help just because of you you love. It's really fucked up and it hurts so bad. Parents are supposed to be there for you no matter what, and love you no matter what. I hate these people that come out and say they are a reformed gay person and they can help you change too, because it's bullshit.
