I almost wish that toward the end of the game, there had been a side quest where if you allowed Magus to join, he goes through a kind of repentance or atonement similar to what Cecil from FF IV had to do when becoming a Paladin. In the process the spell on Frog is removed and he reverts to Glenn the human being. Except in Magus's case there is no class or elemental change associated with the process. He still uses Shadow magic afterward.

True in a sense, though the DS version retranslated all the dialogue (changing several iconic lines and removing Frog's Olde Butcherede Englishe deal) and added a few new areas. It's about as close as they could get to a remake without half the fanbase screaming for blood.
