ME is Windows 2000 Open Beta (Public Beta). It crashes commonly due to the timing and developing errors. Bill Gates had little or no time left, and started shipping the product with extremely tiny minor bugs. But the OS is NOT the problem, it was the time. So blame time and space and not Microsoft.

Windows ME should have been called Windows 98 Third Edition. There weren't a real difference between them.

@KikeRostocker1 Huge differences. This was an OS forgetting the past, ready for the future. It included out of the box USB, Firewire, digital media, and advanced networking capabilities that surpassed anything 98 ever did. It brought System Restore: an attempt at small damage repair. Sadly, due to hardware and driver issues, ME was never able to be used to its potential. And this isn't some copy paste wikipedia: this is from my personal experiences with it in the past. When it works, its great!

@atarimon Thank you. ME was good at it's core, it was the driver level issues that doomed it: developers never really updated their drivers to properly use the tweaked kernel... so you were left with a good OS that didn't have a proper way to communicate with any hardware!

Don't even get me started on how buggy games were back then... :(

I loved ME for what it was... XP was crap too on its initial release, but devs eventually got the hang of it.

It was in fact the worst OS ever made because of its instability. Going back to 98 was an upgrade and there were system file replacements for it anyway. It was better to run Windows NT until 2000 came out. OS X was even better but not OS 9. Linux still sucked.
