We can now tell you that we were referring to the family of Mr. Petros Solomon.
The Eritrean regime has taken a series of draconian measures to contain the massive migration of the youth who are leaving the country to neighboring Sudan and Ethiopia in record numbers. The regime's punitive measures include punishing the entire family whenever a conscript (or a conscription-eligible individual) leaves the country (50,000 nkf per child or 12 months of prison term) as well as a shoot-to-kill policy of interdiction.
"G-15" is shorthand for "Group of 15"-- the monicker for the senior party members (parliamentarians, army officers, cabinet members, etc) who, in the wake of the 2000 Eritrea-Ethiopia war, addressed an open letter to President Isaias Afwerki demanding power devolution and reform. All except for 4 were arrested, without charges or a day in court of law, in September 2001 and remain in detention. A couple have, according to credible sources, died in prison.

ASMARA (Reuters) - The U.N. children's agency UNICEF is appealing for $24.8 million to expand its programmes in Eritrea, where aid agencies say drought is causing widespread food shortages and child malnutrition.

Throughout its existence in mieda, it not only killed the entire intellectual climate, it left no stones unturned to squash any kind of dissent, even of the mildest type.

By the late 1970s the number of ELF forces had dropped to as low as 7,000 while the EPLF could count on 30, 000 liberators. He adds that the EPLF leaders restored the old argument that Eritrea could not support more than one liberation front. This was when they realised that the ELF was weak, exploiting the ELF military weakness and internal crises they declared war on the ELF which was one of the worst crime of the EPLF leaders in the history of the armed struggle.
"Emulating the Eritrean movement as a courageous challenge, many Tigray elements had, since 1970, been forming groups that contemplated an armed struggle to assert the rights of the Tigrayans for equality and fair treatment. The TPLF undertook a working relationship with the Eritrean front, the EPLF".
The Ethiopian police massacre refers to the killing of innocent people by government forces during June and November 2005 which led to the deaths of 193 protesters and injury of 763 others.
Protests of the "election" results began on November 1, 2005, and have prompted more than 60,000 arrests. Live gunfire from government forces has been directed at protesters and bystanders.

This is a classic video that shows how horribly Eritreans are misunderstood. After 30 yrs of war, another border war with 150thousand people dead and one third of the country destroyed, they tell us we are "paranoid"!!! This journalist told us that little was done to rebuilt Massawa that was totally destroyed during the war, and shows a palace that was left untouched as a museum. this is the reason why we will never trust others but only Eritreans.
Its better if Isayas transfer power now. If he goes to war and let civil war ravage the country, I think the country will split up in small parts. The first ones to go are the Afar and the Kunama, both of which have affinity to Ethiopia. The Ethiopians will not blink the assimilate these tribe into the Ethiopian constitution to gain sea access.

@09Factual The preferred method of the Eritrean government is to conscript students into national service straight from school, unless they are continuing higher education.The final year of secondary school was moved to Sawa military camp in 2003. This 12th grade takes place only in Sawa, under military authority, and incorporating military training. Although many 12th grade students are 18 years old some are older because they take longer to finish high school.

Eritrean sources told CPJ, however, that satellite dishes in the capital Asmara's rooftops allowed people to follow the unfolding events through media such as 'Al Jazeera'. As the shocked Sudanese farmers watched in total disbelief and bewilderment, PFDJ thugs kept busy loading their transport trucks with thousands of bushels of sesame and other cash crops to be hauled back to Eritrea, shifta Gebre style.

Using regionalism as a card against progressive fighters in 1973, 1976 and 1978, many progressive fighters were physically eliminated by the EPLF leaders between 1973-1980. Regarding this, Teklay Aden, an EPLF security chief who defected to the Ethiopian regime in 1981, revealed that three thousand fighters were physically liquidated by the Front between 1973 and the time of his defection 1980.

The Eritrean regime has taken a series of draconian measures to contain the massive migration of the youth who are leaving the country to neighboring Sudan and Ethiopia in record numbers. The regime's punitive measures include punishing the entire family whenever a conscript (or a conscription-eligible individual) leaves the country (50,000 nkf per child or 12 months of prison term) as well as a shoot-to-kill policy of interdiction.

"G-15" is shorthand for "Group of 15"-- the monicker for the senior party members (parliamentarians, army officers, cabinet members, etc) who, in the wake of the 2000 Eritrea-Ethiopia war, addressed an open letter to President Isaias Afwerki demanding power devolution and reform. All except for 4 were arrested, without charges or a day in court of law, in September 2001 and remain in detention. A couple have, according to credible sources, died in prison.

Gedab News has learned that Eritrean border security have shot at the family* of a "G-15" member.
The family of four was, with the help of smugglers, trying to evade border patrol and cross to neighboring Sudan when they were shot at by the officers.
Gedab News is in the process of confirming who, if any, successfully crossed the border and who, if any, were detained by the security officers and who, if any, were killed.

By the late 1970s the number of ELF forces had dropped to as low as 7,000 while the EPLF could count on 30, 000 liberators. He adds that the EPLF leaders restored the old argument that Eritrea could not support more than one liberation front. This was when they realised that the ELF was weak, exploiting the ELF military weakness and internal crises they declared war on the ELF which was one of the worst crime of the EPLF leaders in the history of the armed struggle.

One day I asked an Italian officer in the Embassy why the Italians in general never seemed to bother at all about Eritrean independence all throughout the armed struggle for liberation. His answer was that post-Fascist Italy was not responsible for anything that took place during the Fascist regime that meddled with Eritrea. The meaning is that if Eritrea needed any help, it had to ask Mussolini and his followers by raising them from the grave. (((LoL)))

I think your comment was intended to me. I am about as well-versed & knowledgeable about Eritrea as any Eritrean. Afewerki was a man I admired for quite some time for his resilience against Western powers, and his refusal to fall prey to their imperialistic ways. With that said, his time is up. There is no freedom of press, forced military enrollment for all its citizens, rampant starvation, all highlight a myriad of problems in which many Eritreans are fleeing in droves.

This is not to say the Eritrean regime is innocent and everything is hunky dory in Eritrea, far from it. But the report here does not even come close to scratching the surface of what's wrong with Eritrea's situation. The report does not in one single instance independently question the United States government's substantial role in Eritrea's situation. How could they? It is after all their contractor:)

This video is so delusional with lots of wrong information, I really do feel sorry for the people that watch shows like this and base their thoughts of an issue on that. Listen to both sides of the story, read the history, try to understand why the people and government are the way they are now THEN you can make your own decisions on what you think of the situation.

This is a classic video that shows how horribly Eritreans are misunderstood. After 30 yrs of war, another border war with 150thousand people dead and one third of the country destroyed, they tell us we are "paranoid"!!! This journalist told us that little was done to rebuilt Massawa that was totally destroyed during the war, and shows a palace that was left untouched as a museum. this is the reason why we will never trust others but only Eritreans.
