I just Love her voice immensely. When I listen to her... my ear wants to capture, hold, and relish... each individual note... Lee talks a beautiful song... the background instrumentation is almost a distraction... I almost want to tell them, the musicians, to keep the noise down. Her voice does something to me... effects the status of my heart... in an adoring, pleasant way... Thanks for this Perfectly Beautiful Contribution... now, everybody, shshhh... while I play it again... john b.
These nimrods on American Idol should just shut up and go back and study the earlier performers like Lee Morse and MAYBE they might learn something: like that they have NO talent! Anyone mouth can scream into a microphone BUT singing and having a personality: you have to be born with! Thanks for this rare and wonderful video!!!
Her charm, her voice, her style... her everything. She's the very essence of dreams.

It's so strange to think that when this movie came out, my great-grandmother was only sixteen and only two years away from winning the 1932 Miss Nashua beauty pageant. It must be her inspiration from charming women such as these that brought her to victory.
I keep coming back to this short offering unforgettable Lee Morse performances, deeply moved every time when I watch this masterpiece. I agree with what cdadave83614 expressed so well: this beauty coming from within truly lighted up a room back then, the same way it does today on film.
Wow! I've never seen her, I've only heard her. I'm stunned! I think I'm in love! Definitely one of the most original entertainers that has ever lived. Thanks so much for posting this! (ps, check out the post before this one, and save the opera house!)
Attention Lee Morse fans! We need to raise a small amount of money before 01.09.08 in order to save Lee's childhood performance venue, the Kooskia Opera House. Please visit SaveTheOperaHouse dotcom and consider a small $5 donation. Remember, Lee pledged to give you her final five dollars back in 1931 when she recorded "I've Got Five Dollars" Here's your golden opportunity to finally return the favor!
Count me in for sure! I work in a historic theater in N. Idaho, which is where I'm sitting now. The community saved the theater, and now it's thriving and is the cultural heart of this town. Best wishes to you!
I feel very lucky to live in northern Idaho, where she's from. There's a significant little population of uke players and old jazz lovers up here, although perhaps not as many in her home town of Kooskia, ID as there once were. What a lovely video! I've never seen her perform before! Her yodels make me cry.
She is just absolutely beautiful...with the kind of beauty that comes from within. I really, really like her. So talented, too...doing that blues song...I'll bet she was one of those kind of people who can really light up a room. I am very impressed with Lee Morse.
She is so natural and unaffected; she's got the kind of speaking voice that makes you feel like you've known her all your life. And her singing is surprisingly contemporary; her voice reminds me of Rosemary Clooney, a bit.
"3:50 into the video she does her Jimmie Rodgers imitation with that hilarious yodel."
Hmmm. Who was imitating who? Lee originally recorded that song (Mail Man Blues) in 1924 and has the writing credits for it. She was yodeling on recordings a full 3 years before Jimmie Rodgers first recorded.
This is such wonderful footage of Lee! She was so natural in front of the camera. A real inspiration.
I love Lee. That deep voice and her interesting personality hooked me after hearing and fully appreciating "Moanin' Low" from the "Flappers, Vamps, and Sweet Young Things" c.d.. Thanks for uploading this moment from history for more people to see.

I wish there was a million Lees. Her last song, "What Wouldn't I do for that Man" is the most erotic musical performance I've ever seen.

Lee Morse is so ahead of her time! She has an amazing vocal range. Also loads of character & comes over as quite vulnerable!
Thank you for posting this one!

Amazing clip, and she was a LOVELY talent. But the acting from the man entering at :20? Very hard to keep a straight face. "Ah, they're great."
