Not saying I have proof, but let's consider: The bread & butter of contractor companies - be it IT, Security, etc - is what your clients think of your employees. When one of your employees has endangered the good standing of your company with one of your highest paying clients, because of what is proven to be a frivolous lawsuit, what would you do? You'd let him go. Better to try and find a replacement that may act more sensibly. Just sayin' from a purely business standpoint.

It's not revenge. Cook was a civilian contractor working in a military building. He sued the military over something frivolous and so the military - naturally - decided that such a person might not be the type that should have access to military property and data. So they no longer wanted him there. The company he worked for isn't going to have anywhere else to send Cook that could pay as much. This military contract was probably their highest paying client. So they let Cook go.
