Absolutely fantastic! I was already thinking that was what I was going to say in the comments before I heard you utter those very words at the end of the video. Looks like we're on the same page! That was just absolutely awesome to watch! Nice job sir! Here's to Mr. Donavan as well!
Great video as always. :-) When you picture the internals of a Wankel it's a bit misleading though, since you don't specify that you've actually shown the innards of a full-size rotary, (rather than the mighty O.S). As a real RX-7 owner & avid RC'er, I had to do a double-take, haha.
true craftsmanship and amazing little engine, i am an auto technician and have built a cupped rotary Mazda engines and really love the mechanical genius about the engines, never knew that miniature ones exist wow! love all you videos and builds and you have once again showed me something that i didnt know 10 min ago thank you for you time effort and devotion that goes in to this.
Thanks Dave, loving watching these build video of all the old aircraft. Learn so much and about the techniques and just the way you go about it. Helped me repair many an Aircraft.
I love those Wankel motors, always wanted one. Thanks again, Dave, for doing another wonderful video. BTW, these are the types I like to see you do. Keep up the nice work.
Awesome video! I love flying wings! I have built two, one 1/2a wing from scratch and one is a gremlin combat wing from RA Cores. There are contests here in NH and I have yet to enter (I will soon), but my friend and I combat and it's a blast! The gremlin is uncannily similar to your wing except for the fancy hatch. Thanks again for a great video.
WOW! Nice build and sweet flight. It look incredible fast. I can't imagine 2 in the air dog fighting. When does Jeff finish his? Very impressive. Thanks for posting it!
@EhnTeePee Thanks very much. Elevon planes fly pretty similar. It just take more getting used to looking at it and knowing where you are when flying a wing. Wankels are great but pretty pricey. $699 Retail, but Tower hobbies sells them new for $450. That is probably a factor but in a Twin warbird, they fit under the cowls nicely.
Mate!, you put a really big smile on my face!, thats one SWEET little machine.
I fell in love with these engines when I bought a Mazda RX2 and fully restored it.
Interestingly they are perfect for running on Hydrogen.
One of the most unique engines ever made
Thanks for the video, I was 20 years younger for about 9 minutes, you made me want to get out into the shed and build something, all the best buddy, Chris
great and awesome video mr. herbert, i wish i was a nitro guy, but im all electric, lol, maybe someday ill learn, but none the less, youre videos are great!
hey night @ 2:57 the slotted flat heads are stupid i wish they were allen or torx but with the flat head i either wrap a small strip of rag around the screw /driver or i take two rags and spray glued them and then cut to the middle of them and then cut an opening so the horn is partially covered it works let me know if you try it
Cool video! I always loved the building process of the hobby, turning a box of wood pieces into something that flies- a flying model. Many of us scoffed when the first ARF planes hit the market. I have an NSU Princ microcar, but it still has the 2 cylinder 600cc motor in it. "Neckarsulm" is what NSU is short for. Go figure, silly Germans!
@NightFlyyer I never had the patience or know how to build one. I did have a plastic model once but couldn't get the engine to run. Years later I found out about needing a battery to make the glow plug heat up.
Now I'm to old to start trying to building one.
It's fun to watch guys like you build and fly them. I really enjoy seeing your videos.
Now that looked like it required some real hand eye coordination to keep from smashing it. I would have been to scared to fly it too fasst for my level.......
@NightFlyyer Your in great shape for your age Dave. I lost my left eye in 99 so I don't think its possible for me to get to your level. Dont get me wrong I'm still a happy flier There is just no way I can track the really fast stuff. Sport trainers, are my thing and still sometimes I lose orientation I just fly at an altitude that allows me to figure it out usually before I hit the earth. To me you come across as a sage in your vids and lord knows that's a good thing. keep it up thanx..........
It looks like to fuselage of the plane is made with drainage gutters.....my old flight instructor brought a combat plane just like yours, the plane had a body as a drainage gutter. The differences is he pout in a OS 2 stroke 35 and also his wings were hand made with some funky plastic thing i never saw before. Also, he told me a few weeks ago when i was building my twist 40, to not buy large servos for throttle because it is so easy to move. You did that too.....haha, the way things happen eh ?
rotarys are awesome engines i have one in my car. you should see if you can do porting to your OS engine. cuz if you can do a bridgeport and holy crap wouldent be suprised if you got 3-5 HP at 20K the only problem i can see is the idle look up brideport on youtube and youll see what i mean.
@beech18s Hey Tom. Yep it flies like my Simitar, so I felt comfortable. It was the first flight you know, so I was busy sorting out trim, etc, but I like to be busy in the air.....it's exciting.
@Mainyard48 I paid attention to layout and it came out pretty close, so I am happy. Yep, I use lots of "WaterGate Tape" for streamers. LOL. Thanks for your comments.
is there anywhere i can pick one of these up???

Hello Mr. Dave,
Great video!!!
I've been flying electric.
And as I was watching this video, I'm wondering.
What would be, in your personal opinion, the benefit of gas engine over electric.
Thanks.
