Recently a "homeless" guy was begging for money on a corner where a restaurant is near my house. The restaurant had a help wanted sign. A local police officer asked him why he didn't go apply for a job. The 'homeless' guy said he made more money begging than if he worked at the restaurant. Don't give people money, give them resources.

Man homeless people are alright. I sat down with one and lent him a cigarette and he told me his life story and how he ended up that way, he had absolutely no family as he emigrated from Zimbabwe in the 80's. I was eighteen at the time so I didn't have much cash but I gave him what I could. He wasn't on drugs, and he wasn't an alcoholic, he was just the product of our current economic climate.

If I had nowhere to live, no family, no food and little money, then I sure as shit would drink myself into an amnestic stupor, if only to keep warm. Eating cheap food wouldn't dull the pain and utter loneliness I'd feel.

It becomes their way of life. They become accustomed to the thought that they somehow deserve it. I'm no expert, but I can at least see that.
