People are going on about religion and what not but theirs not to many who care to mutch about it. I would say that has long pass now. Celtic and rangers get to mutch the blame now in my oppinion for the reliogious stuff. Both clubs have Catholics and protastants supporting them like any other club. I'm a Celtic fan but have never supported them for any religious or political reasons I supported them due to friends and family.
Everton is considered a catholic club because Liverpool as a city is 80% catholic and is the only majority catholic city in Britain, Belfast is 60% protestant and Glasgow is even higher again, During the Irish Troubles of the 60s Everton Fans started waving Ireland flags and some say Liverpool waved Union Jacks, Our city and football is not influenced by politics or religion, but many catholic scousers sympathised with Irish Freedom fighters due to liverpool being built upon Irish immigrants.
@InMoyesWeTrust08 I couldn't agree with you more on that one mate, I'm so proud to be an Evertonian! Everton till I die, Born a blue, die a blue, Better dead, then a red! C.O.Y.B!
don't bring this religous divide in2 our club!!!! it dosen't matter what religion we are what religion our fans our!!! show people we are the people's club by respecting pepl of all religions!!! im irish and if celtic and rangers played in the morning i wudnt get upset whoever lost once the everton i'm happy!!
TAKE THE TRUTH BLUE SHITE LIVERPOOL 18 LEAGUES 5 EURO CUPS 7 FA CUPS 3 UEFA CUPS 3 UEFA SUPER CUPS 15 COMMUNITY SHEILDS 7 LEAGUE CUPS TO SECOND DIVISON 4 TIMES)) EVERTON AKA BLUE SHIT 9 LEAGUES 1 SECONDIVISON 5 FA CUPS 2 LEAGUE CUPS 9 CHARITY SHIELDS SOS BLUE SHITE WANTED STATS WERE BETTER HAHAHAHA
no they arnt a catholic club , it started as st domingos , but any religion has long gone , supporters are half and half , just going on what the st end used to sing in the 70s, half would sing rangers, half celtic, then the whole end everton, anfields was the same, half and half, most of my mates are protestants and everton ,nothing to do with religion, not like rangers and celtic
@TheMightOfTheEnglish You're wrong traditionaly Everton are the catholic club, Liverpool protestant. Just because our derby hasn't got nothing to do with religion and our fans can follow any faith dosen't mean we're not a catholic club. Traditionaly it's Everton - Celtic..... Liverpool - Rangers
@toffeenosejbw i beg to differ ,mabbe way back before the turn of the century or something , im protestant and never viewed everton as a catholic club ,i know loads of fans who are protestant, as i said mid 70s , the street end , someone would sing celtic , and just as many would shout out rangers ,then all would sing everton, it was 50/50 who sang for both , i went to the kop around the same time and it was the same their, early roots may have been but its never been like rangers celtic
@toffeenosejbw catholics support liverpool to as protestants support everton, some may support everton and view it as traditionally catholic , what happend then when everton were the only club in liverpool, people support usually what their fathers did and their fathers , thats how i started ,for many religion has nothing to do with everton and liverpool, before ww2 before the city was cleared of many slum areas , and their was secterianism and riots even , mabbe then people chose differently
@TheMightOfTheEnglish I disagree I'd say that yes Liverpool fans have catholic fans but they are not scousers their people who are either from outside Liverpool or recent arrivals to Liverpool. Liverpool have fans of all races and faiths. I'd say the majority of Everton fans around 65% are of Irish Catholic descent. Liverpool have always had fans from everywhere. whereas 95% of Everton fans are scouse or their parents come from Liverpool. I would say Everton fans prefer celtic to rangers.
@standupEFC were do you get your figures from, liverpool has never always had fans from outside , mabbe since the 60s when shankley turned them around , were where their fans in the 50s when they were definately in the shadow of everyone i wouldnt say 95% of everton come from liverpool alone , many come from all parts of merseyside , then you have support from the likes of north wales and all over england , not on the scale of other teams , although escla , everton supporters club london area
escla , were one of the largest supporters clubs outside liverpool, in my opinion its fairly even in both clubs, i know catholics of irish descent who are liverpool fans and i know many protestants who support everton, if i thought there was any secterianism, or anything religious about everton or liverpool, id be a red god forbid , or even tranmere,

Everton were formed out of a methodist church (protestant) and still the only ground with a church again church of england (protestant)
Orange hall Everton rd, traditionaly there has been a bigger connection to rangers than celtic.
Put all that aside, the merseyside derby is not a sectarian day out its about the whole of liverpool coming together and watching a game of football
Im a blue and Im a protestant the same as the rest of my family but the derby is about football.
