after modding my system, i had just installed some LED lights and made it look cool! however there was no power getting to the dvd portion (just like what yours did). I took it apart again and tested it and made sure connections were right on, and it worked. great! so i put it back in the shell then turned it on and NOTHING. been working on it all night until i tried what you did by disconnecting everything and running it for a few mins, then the reset cable decides to crinkle up. ebay ftw!

Have this same problem, it will come on but with no power to the spindle or laser. I replaced the whole laser including spindle but still no joy. Tried your method and I still have no movement from it all.

Any other ideas anyone?

@pawz76 Look for a connection to the motherboard. That may be your only other option besides a new Drive.

i found the error on mine;

the cable that was suppose to påwer the laser hadsome torn pieces for some reason... and no-one else had opened it as iremoved the viod seal same day as i found out that it was torn.

guess i have to turn in all of my gaes to gamestop to get some ps3 games...

Thanks for the info. My PS2 slim was not spinning disks. Checked the two switches that tells the unit the door is closed. The rear one that is accessible only once the cover is off was worn. Will do a full mod later, but a quick fix with a toothpick point jammed into it works for now and lets the kids go back to playing.

@icerink239 I LOOKED THROUGH ALL THE VIDEOS AND I CLEANED THE DISC WITCH IS A GOOD THING TO DO AND MY PS2 DID NOT WORK FOR 5 YEARS AND ALL I DID WAS TAKE THE STUPID BACK COVER OVER THE LASER AND IT WORKED 100% NO JOKE TRY IT. IT WORKED FOR ME.

How can I remove the cables? I tried pulling them but it looks like it's unremovable. If I apply too much force in it.. maybe the ps2 will be much broken.
