that wasnt very good......Twice he had to tell them to get quiet....You should barely hear Mayall ...They clearly never played together on this one as the Bassist was showing the Key at the start and the stop/changes during Alberts last solo....I say Albert walked off stage and said enough of this....lol Albert is very demanding but didnt give angry looks like he would to his own band members if they played like that. Peace & Blues
@landonrob Albert was a bit tired of the drummer I think, he is playing a bit too loud at times. But Mayall is a true blues master, you should be able to hear the piano, it's not too loud. He loved Mick Taylors playing, that was the highlight for him, you can tell that by the way he bows for him in the end. Beautiful gesture. Taylor has so much respect for Albert.
I don't wanna say that Mick Taylor's solo was bad (actually, it was kinda good), but Albert King clearly insisted a guitar conversation, and when King does that, you don't ignore him and keep playing your own solo's!!
@huubramler Albert King himself has always said that he wants younger players to come forward and take room. Taylor had a great blues solo going, lovely dynamics and feeling, so he kept going to reach the crescendo. At the jam in the end of this show, you can clearly see Albert King watching Taylor and being very impressed. And when you play a guitar solo like this on stage, you are completely in your own world. Two legendary guitar players btw, thanks for the video srvfan79.
if people could see this kind of stuff today there would be no Joe Bonamassa or Johnny land. Nor a Kenny Wayne Sheppard. It's BS and they wouldn't make it out of the bars and clubs. Man Albert kind fucking kills me! Never heard a solo this long from Mic. Fucking great as well and that after Albert just played great. Who can do that? You ever sit in with a good player. if they go first and rip you're going to sweat it at least once in you're life.
Albert is always lookin' for the band to understand where he's at and Mick got it that's why he seems always so disturbed by what's goin' on : all he wants is to deliver the essence of thehave it his way. blues and being one of the greats, manages to
Too funny. John Mayall @ 0:06 walks over to the bass player and asks: "Ummm, pardon me brother, but is this some unknown key that I'm not aware of?" The bass player's response: "Ummm actually, it's just his Flying V, mate. Damn guitar never stays in tune. I keep telling him to get a Fender !"
Tiene una gran voz, pero el sonido de la guitarra no ayuda, creo que una strato ó una telecaster harian excelente sonido. El blues debe tener un sonido suave y si se casi limpio mu poco distortion.
He can't keep that flying "V" in tune to save his life. He was playing with SRV and had to screw with it constantly. But he's making bank playing an out of tune guitar and I'm sitting here wishin'.
I can add a bit of detail here. This is not the original bluesbreakers Look up the lineage and you will see. Only Mayall is here. Albert King and Mayall were the opening acts for Jimi Hendrix in Feb 1968 at Winterland, SF. I bet that is when they first met. I was there and can tell you King nearly stole the show... from Hendrix!!
@soltisimba But for most of this concert it was a reformed Bluesbreakers lineup with Mick Taylor , Collin Allen and John McVie. However on some of the numbers like this one John McVie sat it out and another bass player played. I am about to upload more of this concert.
I am British and I can say that this is Genuine African-American music - real classy gentlemen playing with talent, soul and passion - artists like Albert King, BB King, Buddy Guy, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Robert Johnson, Charlie Christian and Grover Washington Jr. Look at the mainstream African-American musicians today, and in most cases (except in small local jazz and blues venues) you find drug dealing scum shit like 50 cent, JayZ, etc!!! How in hell do people like this! .
Guys, My brother and I were at this show...between the 2 of us we have seen many many shows and we dont agree on much but one thing we do: THIS WAS THE BEST CONCERT WE WERE EVER AT!!!!!!
@onlyjoetee Mick Taylor lets his playing speak for itself, if you think it is boring and dull, you need to get a new pair of ears.
He is a very diverse and talented musician, his vibrato reeks of pure emotion. His playing has a certain fluidity to it.
He knows how to repeat a phrase, but some how accenuate it differently each time. A skill necessary for blues music (as there aren't alot of notes to work with in 12 bars, and 3 chords), and a skill that few musicians ever truly master.
@WadeMacKinnon He's technically good yes, blah blah etc,but he's dull,no doubt about that,no character. What you let out when you play,is whats in you, what you contain.Thats why someone's playing hits you like a punch and someone else doesn't,even if they play the exact same notes. He's just dull,as a man,a spirit and a player!!!could walk in a room and you wouldn't even know he'd walked in,one of them kinda guys, dull!!!
First white boy(besides Stevie Ray) to play with a good feel,...not too many notes, just slow and soul,... the best way to play! And Albert, my my my....is all I have to say! Love his voice!
The only problem I see with the younger guys playing with these older bluesmen is the inability to understand the call and responce. Gary Moore is the worst, but here I don't think Mick upstaged Albert at all, but when Albert played a couple of licks near the end of the solo he expected Mick to respond, but he just kept right on playing what he was playing. Clapton is always good on stage with the older bluesmen and so was SRV. Some guys just don't get it no matter how good they are on guitar.
@ishawnm I guess I'm getting older and my eyes are slipping on me but I didn't see a string break. I dearly love AK and take nothing from him, but I once saw Hendrix break a string then keep right on playing, take another string out of his pocket as he kept playing, then install the string and tune it--all while still playing.
@vinegaroon1 Well the lighting in that arena is not conducive to seeing such things very well. Albert was not one to stand on stage and restring when he broke a string. (In part cause he was very secretive about his tunings.) Here is an example with SRV in a better lit studio where AK broke a string in mid jam to make the point:
youtube.com/watch?v=-l98e3DnmGk
Even there, you see the broken string only briefly. AK left and SRV continued playing ala Mick in this video.
@rabokel well, congratulations on proving to the youtube world how brain-dead someone can be, yet can still type. mick is about the classiest guy in the business, and what he is doing here - successfully - is trying to add to the song but not upstage. this is what you do when playing 'with' someone - if mick had it in his head to cause the building to crumble...he could easily do so. the key to great playing is...knowing when to be understated. the sign of a true craftsman who plays 'songs'
Albert has the tuning minimum 1 whole note down which means he can bend far more than with the usual tuning. As he has the strings upside downe he bends in another direction then standard guitar players. Bending downwards gives a different sound than bending upwards. So his whole playing sounds different.
Mick Taylor plays a fine solo. It takes some musicianship to get an interesting solo out of the pentatonic blues scale which everybody plays.

Great guitar by Mick and Albert. Very sorry for those out there that don't like BLUES.Going to see Mayall in concert sunday 22 nov at the metropolis in Montreal
Well, not the Original Bluesbreakers. On guitar, before Mick Taylor there was peter Green, before Peter Green there was Eric Clapton, before Eric Clapton there was Roger Dean. On drums, before Colin Allen there were Keef Hartley, Mick Fleetwood, Aynsley Dunbar, Hughie Flint.
Then, Uggybow mentions Alan Wilson, Stevie and Rory Gallagher as the best white blues guitarists. Probalbly never heard Peter Green in Fleetwood Mac. Nor Duke Robillard and Ronnie Earl....
Do any of you realize that the other guitarist is Mick Taylor, formerly of the Rolling Stones, who played on Beggar's Banquet to Goat's Head Soup and was replaced by Ron Wood is the other guy here?
I spent time with him and feel that he is one of the most talented people I personally have ever met and had the pleasure to learn a little guitar from.....I am a former Ted Greene student and local L.,A. session guitarist , Matt Lee....
and what about the looks man, the precence, he always delivers dresed like a fucking top lord of soul, look at his suit, his watch, ring, Lucy! and those shades. He is indeed the Godfather, no human will ever come close to him till the end of the times.
This is from a video called "Blues Alive", 1982 in NJ. Also had Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, and I think Etta James. I had a beta copy which is sadly long lost. M Taylor with his great tone as always.
met Albert in 1980 after a show, in a laundry mat talked with him about 30 minutes nice man. H esaid at the filmore west Jimi Hendrix gave him a joint laced with heroin, he said he got so high he had to put ice between his arm and his legs, after that he swore off drugs for good . The way he told the story was quiet animated! Clay Flinchum
Is this Mayall Playing the BLues Breaker from the early 90s. It has to be. Notice he is using a late 1977 Marshall JMP and cab and als there is what looks to be a n early circa 69 to 73 pt to pt Marshall. unsure who is playing thru what but the blues is pouring out. I have the large block 77 in mint cndition marshall and an original BLues breaker and SHredmaster I ab/y between with an 81 JCM800 2203 and Analogman 3403 d pedal insane
Legendary Bluesbreaker and Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor features as a very special guest of Stephen Dale Petit & his band for a few select shows. Expect magic & guitar heaven with these two formidable musicians playing Mick Taylor classics & numbers from SDP's current Guitararama release. Unmissable.
Albert is a killer!always lookin' for that incredible sound that doesn't satisfy him 100% but it sure satisfies me!He carries the whole load alone. What a musician, what a man.
i was looking deprately to find a good video to watch seeing im high, and i think i just stumbled on to the holy grail 8-)

Get that man a glass of water before he dehydrates.
Only in the blues you can let your guitar fall outta tune and nobody gives a fuck as long as you play those notes with your whole soul

@eric1love Just as long as your vibrato doesn't quiver like a scared school boy you'll be fine.

I love how albert comes out and just kills a solo, grabs his hat and is out the door...that's why he will always be the man.

One of the finest moments in Blues history. Mick delivers one sweet solo!
I'm sure Albert was pissed off when Mick lengthened it at 4;28.

This is from a video called "Blues Alive", 1982 in NJ. Also had Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, and I think Etta James. I had a beta copy which is sadly long lost. M Taylor with his great tone as always.

It's great to see Albert King, even if it isn't his own band. His singing and guitar work are full of soul on this classic song.

met Albert in 1980 after a show, in a laundry mat talked with him about 30 minutes nice man. H esaid at the filmore west Jimi Hendrix gave him a joint laced with heroin, he said he got so high he had to put ice between his arm and his legs, after that he swore off drugs for good . The way he told the story was quiet animated! Clay Flinchum

White blues guitarists?
Alan Wilson, Stevie and Rory Gallagher as far as I'm concerned. No white man comes even close to these three.

Stevie Ray Vaughn?!!!
