  • 2 people are plants

  • Wish someone would make a film version of Wyndham's "The Kraken Wakes" aka "Up from the Depths" that one was even more gripping IMO. A few of John Christopher's books would be good candiates too "No Blade of Grass" or "The Long Winter" , "The Ragged Edge" same themes but all great stories!

  • @SpaceIntruderDetecto

Have you seen the 80's version of Tripods? I found it quite entertaining. As for making Kraken Wakes etc. I agree it would be great in priciple, but in practice Hollywood would just dumb it down to the lowest common denominator. Exactly as the BBC have with this patronising and ill-acted let down.

  • @SpaceIntruderDetecto May I suggest WyndhamWeb, the internet's first dedicated John Wyndham site full of (spoiler-free) reviews and polls. Vote for Kraken Wakes as your favourite Wyndham novel, or comment on Wyndham matters in general. Cheers.

  • This looks pretty cool. Need to get the book from Dad again...

  • Cannot wait until this is available in the States! I predict in the future those of us outside Europe can pay a licencing fee and watch online with the rest of you! Goodness knows the Beeb has gotten plenty of my money over the years!

    :0)

  • it is very good

  • Yeah but they just spent it all building a new HQ... muppets

No this version is terrible and patronising beyond words. If you've read the book then this will be a huge let down I assure you.

  • I actually found this quite good. It was good to see a more present day version of what we think the triffids would be used for and what they would do.

I certainly found the homicidal vegetation more believable this time as they weren't paper mache being trundled about on wheels.

If you want to see true tripe go and see Dr Parnasum's Imaginarium - now THAT is true rubbish.

  • Not a patch on the 1981 version.

  • ya so far..not impressed...you cant do this series in 2 episodes to begin with and it definatly has a maerican apoclyptic vibe rather than the orignal drama horror british feel

  • i saw this last night it good but they do not eat you all they do is poison people?

  • Actually in the book triffids sting, then slowly digest the corpse.

The BBC should hang their heads in shame, this was a truly awful remake, made with an eye on the American market, and as patronising as it is possible to be.

  • Jesus Christ, is it just me or has the BBC become fully accustomed to shooting itself in the foot as often as possible? John Wyndham would be rolling in the grave if he saw this terrible piece of crap. I think ITV have infiltrated the BBC top brass because the remaining option just beggars belief.

  • @aarandir Is it that bad? Maybe I shouldn't watch it...

  • They sting & patiently wait for you to rot.

  • Yeah it should be, check at 10pm tomorrow and it should be on as it aires on bbc 1 at 9pm I think.

  • Will this be on BBC iplayer? I hope so.
