My Aunt used to sing this song along with many others. Her and my Mother would get out their guitars and, with my Mom singing "tenor" they would harmonize and forever place a "country heart" in this rock and roll teenager~
Hey Tom. thanks for this video, Sharon does a beautiful job staying in the original tune, of hank williams sr. everyone did avery good job on their instruments. nice country sound thanks again.
I listen to this song every morning. I love it so much and I was so upset when it got made private for a while! Thanx so much for sharing it with me!:)
i always love any of 'the whites' vox, they are synonymous with accuracy and perfection! having Michael Doucet and Gerry Douglass and Ricky Scaggs and Danny Thompson on bass is just icin on the cayke!
Must of been something to have been at these Transatlantic sessions. I love this video and love watching Danny Thompson I watched the video of him playiing with John Martyn and Kathy Mattae, May you never , this alone would make you feel as high as a kite. Would love to be able to buy all these sessions on DVD ! are they available
TS 1 and 3 are available on DVD, TS 2 on CD. I bought my DVDs from Scotland. Look out in a month or so for TS 4 on BBC4. Danny T will be on again. I've been told that there will be a DVD release on TS 4. John Martyn's May You Never is on TS 1 and I watch a piece of TS 3 almost every night. There are so many great musicians on these sessions.
We moved to carolina in the eary fiftys I was a boy of eight but I can remember driving back to the mountains and dad turning on the radio late at night and a station in Ohio would be playing music like this. Looking out over the land no super highways only old back roads and we had to go slow. If only I could relive just one of those drives. Thank you for this music I can shut my eyes and be on that back road.
Even my three kids immediately took to Ricky. When they saw The Whites, Cheryl stood out so far. It was instant love, I think. I know it was instant impression for me. Put her and Ricky together and you have a pair that you couldn't beat with a full house. They just sound so great together.
Though this song was written and made famous by Hank Williams and has been covered by many other men, I think its more appropriately performed by a woman. So I really love this video. The song on its surface is about a traditional heartbreak, but I believe its more than that - its Williams' plea to a God he feels has abandoned him. He couldn't say it plainly, so he dressed it up in words his audience could accept. I beleive he'd be very pleased to hear White singing it.
I just love this song. I have always liked Ray Price's live version the best. But this one is awesome too!! I got to see the White's being inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and I wish they would include this in their live show!!
Very pretty, I love all of the instruments on here and she does a beautiful job singing. May God Bless U. I give U 5*****. Love that fiddle playing, dobro and mandolin.
Sharon does a simply incredible job on this, and I love Ricky on that mandolin and a real treat to hear Jerry on the dobro. I agree, Sharon White has never received the acclaim and recognition she truly deserves; she has an awesome voice. FIVE STARS
Marie, she has worked on the Grand Ole Opry for several years with her dad and sister as "The Whites". I have always loved her singing. I just knew you would like this one. Take care my friend and have a wonderful weekend. Mike
Maribo...let me give you some songs she's done (some with Ricky and some with Cheryl and Buck). Love Can't Ever Get Better Than This (With Ricky) Pins and Needles, You Put The Blue In Me, Another Soldier Down, Fall Down Children (amongst others)(with cheryl and buck).
I agree with Mandolin1944 and hardyoak. Sharon White has a compelling voice. I cannot find enough of her and The Whites as a group's music. They are top notch. Sharon always sounds genuine and has a rich warmth to her voice. I think she sounds best with The Whites but as a backup singer or with other musicians Emmy Lou has little on her.
I have to tell you, that I've heard virtually every recorded version of "Mansion on the Hill." I used to think that Tompall and the Glaser Brothers had the definitive version. Nope. It's Sharon's.
This is a great video! Sharon White has to be one of the most under rated singers in country music -- everything she (with The Whites or with Ricky) is excellent. Singers like Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Ronstat get all the adulation and the praise but they have nothing on Sharon.
These were television programmes made by Pelicula Films. They have made 3 series with the first being around 1995. These were a mixture of Celtic and different forms of "Country" music. All 3 series were filmed in Scotland - with the first 2 being filmed in Ayrshire and the last Perthshire.
The third series is available of DVD. The first 2 series (or parts of) may be released on DVD later this year.
He is a very famous player and featured on the first 2 series of these sessions. His "CV" is as long as your arm and he had a close musical and personal friendship with John Martyn - who also featured on Transatlantic Sessions.
Country music sure does exist - just not on mainstream radio. The real country music fans are irrelevant to the mass media. However, that's okay, because mainstream radio is totally irrelevant to me. I search out the good stuff and there's lots there, but you gotta look hard sometimes.
