  • A Perfect Tune Indeed!!

  • My Aunt used to sing this song along with many others. Her and my Mother would get out their guitars and, with my Mom singing "tenor" they would harmonize and forever place a "country heart" in this rock and roll teenager~

  • One of the best versions I have ever heard. Russ Barenberg and Michael Doucette are magic. Love it.

  • Must of been something to have been at these Transatlantic sessions. I love this video and love watching Danny Thompson I watched the video of him playiing with John Martyn and Kathy Mattae, May you never , this alone would make you feel as high as a kite. Would love to be able to buy all these sessions on DVD ! are they available

  • TS 1 and 3 are available on DVD, TS 2 on CD. I bought my DVDs from Scotland. Look out in a month or so for TS 4 on BBC4. Danny T will be on again. I've been told that there will be a DVD release on TS 4. John Martyn's May You Never is on TS 1 and I watch a piece of TS 3 almost every night. There are so many great musicians on these sessions.

  • Brilliant Music

  • The Whites I can't get enough!!!

  • We moved to carolina in the eary fiftys I was a boy of eight but I can remember driving back to the mountains and dad turning on the radio late at night and a station in Ohio would be playing music like this. Looking out over the land no super highways only old back roads and we had to go slow. If only I could relive just one of those drives. Thank you for this music I can shut my eyes and be on that back road.

  • How music should sound!

  • Beautiful music and voices, you can't fool the ear, the ear knows immediately when a sound or voice is beautiful ;) 5*****

    Ricky :)

  • Thanks for the reply Panelman.I have seven different versions of this song in my collection.Check out the intensity of the Vernon Oxford version.

  • This is the best version i have heard of this song.Congratulations and thank you Sharon.

  • Heard the original one by Hank Williams? That one really hurts and expresses the songs content.

But I lve this one as well, not the least for the 'band'

  • Even my three kids immediately took to Ricky. When they saw The Whites, Cheryl stood out so far. It was instant love, I think. I know it was instant impression for me. Put her and Ricky together and you have a pair that you couldn't beat with a full house. They just sound so great together.

  • Sharon White puts so much feeling into her singing. She is great singer.

  • yes, she is one of my favorites of all time ... along with Hazel Dickens and Delia Belle.

  • Old Hank's songs never die and this would make him proud - great singer with great musicians - Thank you

  • she should sing that with Metallica!

    that would be awesome!!!

  • Better than great ! Country music at its best !

  • that is so cool! love it!

  • It dos`it get better than this!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful video, great singing and music

  • iagree,ol hank would have been in his element with this version.if the good lords willin n em creeks dont rise......

  • Though this song was written and made famous by Hank Williams and has been covered by many other men, I think its more appropriately performed by a woman. So I really love this video. The song on its surface is about a traditional heartbreak, but I believe its more than that - its Williams' plea to a God he feels has abandoned him. He couldn't say it plainly, so he dressed it up in words his audience could accept. I beleive he'd be very pleased to hear White singing it.

  • Went to school with sharon white , she was in my sisters class.. this is ricky scaggs second wife. Twyla in ca... but my hearts in Ar...

  • I just love this song. I have always liked Ray Price's live version the best. But this one is awesome too!! I got to see the White's being inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and I wish they would include this in their live show!!

  • Very pretty, I love all of the instruments on here and she does a beautiful job singing. May God Bless U. I give U 5*****. Love that fiddle playing, dobro and mandolin.

    Darlene

  • Sharon does a simply incredible job on this, and I love Ricky on that mandolin and a real treat to hear Jerry on the dobro. I agree, Sharon White has never received the acclaim and recognition she truly deserves; she has an awesome voice. FIVE STARS

  • I never heard Sharon White before: she has a marvelous voice. I put this to my faves.

Mike Thank you so much for sharing, you KNOW what I like :-)Have a great day, Marie

  • Marie, she has worked on the Grand Ole Opry for several years with her dad and sister as "The Whites". I have always loved her singing. I just knew you would like this one. Take care my friend and have a wonderful weekend. Mike

  • Maribo...let me give you some songs she's done (some with Ricky and some with Cheryl and Buck). Love Can't Ever Get Better Than This (With Ricky) Pins and Needles, You Put The Blue In Me, Another Soldier Down, Fall Down Children (amongst others)(with cheryl and buck).

  • Jeremy, thank you very much for these informations!

    Kind regards, Marie

  • Oh have love American folk music.

  • I agree with Mandolin1944 and hardyoak. Sharon White has a compelling voice. I cannot find enough of her and The Whites as a group's music. They are top notch. Sharon always sounds genuine and has a rich warmth to her voice. I think she sounds best with The Whites but as a backup singer or with other musicians Emmy Lou has little on her.

  • Great vocals plus sublime intricate breaks and fill ins from the "A" team musicians.

Country music in the "front room". Brilliant.

  • I have to tell you, that I've heard virtually every recorded version of "Mansion on the Hill." I used to think that Tompall and the Glaser Brothers had the definitive version. Nope. It's Sharon's.

Wish we could hear more of her music.

  • This is a great video! Sharon White has to be one of the most under rated singers in country music -- everything she (with The Whites or with Ricky) is excellent. Singers like Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Ronstat get all the adulation and the praise but they have nothing on Sharon.

  • I agree with you. Sharon's voice is so compelling ... I love almost anything she does.

  • what are the Transatlantic Sessions exactly? where did they occur (studio)?

  • These were television programmes made by Pelicula Films. They have made 3 series with the first being around 1995. These were a mixture of Celtic and different forms of "Country" music. All 3 series were filmed in Scotland - with the first 2 being filmed in Ayrshire and the last Perthshire.

The third series is available of DVD. The first 2 series (or parts of) may be released on DVD later this year.

    Hope this helps.

  • It does...thank you sir

  • who is the bass player in the video ive seen him in alot of other video's he's definatly a classic love watching him play

  • That's Danny Thompson - I've now updated details.

He is a very famous player and featured on the first 2 series of these sessions. His "CV" is as long as your arm and he had a close musical and personal friendship with John Martyn - who also featured on Transatlantic Sessions.

  • Russ Barenberg on lead guitar , as I'm sure you know,Tom. I just hate to not see my favorite guitarist given credit. Thanks for all you post.

  • Just updated (including tags) - thanks for pointinh that out.

Unfortunately - there are a few other uploads I need to update sometime.

As I'm sure you know - I do appreciate Russ's playing and saw him live earlier this year. He featured on all 3 series of Transatlantic sessions.

  • very good tears in my eyes

  • You are absolutely superb on this song, and video. Keep it up. Wish I had a copy of you doing Mansion on the Hill.

  • Hi Sharon! I love your music. If you get a chance...check out my videos and see if I look familiar to you.

  • hank willams is smilling at ya awsome just awsome

  • We will all leave this world behind someday.

It's not what you take with you, its what you leave behind for your loved ones to remember who you where and who you represented on that final day.

  • White music sounds great!

  • GREAT!Thank you very, very much "tomtscotland":-)

  • God bless Ricky for keeping this great music alive, yea,i too, am a kentuckian!

  • Country music is still out there. You just have to look so hard to find it. But this is it!

  • An oldie but a lovely, lovely ballad. Great singing.

  • Beautiful job by Sharon

  • It just don't get any better than this. Sharon White, Ricky Skaggs, and Jerry Douglas.

They make mighty fine music, this is the best version I have heard and seen.

    Thanks for posting this

  • Nice job clasic hank williams thanks

  • Country music sure does exist - just not on mainstream radio. The real country music fans are irrelevant to the mass media. However, that's okay, because mainstream radio is totally irrelevant to me. I search out the good stuff and there's lots there, but you gotta look hard sometimes.

  • country music 100% pure still exists!!

  • This is real music not like rap 'music' that we have today.

  • I like this version a lot too.

  • What a great version of this song! Thanks TS for posting this.

  • Great version of this Hank Williams senior song.

  • Thank you for another great video of this series! I've owned the American cd version of the Sessions for a few years now and didn't even know there was a TV series that the tracks came from. [I went back and checked the liner notes an it was mentioned in a very obscure place.] It's so great seeing all these artists perform ! Again, thanks from a greatful American.

  • thanks for these , I had all of them on video , lent it to my sister-in-law and she lost it Aaaaaargh

  • - here ' s a tip about good food ... never between the meals ; D

  • here's my eating tip ....never stop between the meals :~D

  • - oh , i see : )

  • no , come on , too more TS gems here , that ' s a " Gourmandise " sin ; )

  • Hi "jeanhoel" glad you like these Transatlantic clips. Myself and others have uploaded quite a lot of them - I've tried to avoid repeating others uploads - but I still plan to do a few others.

I'm from Scotland - are you from U.K.?

  • Hi " tomtscotland " , actually i ' m from France ... I ' m always so glad to see new TS vids i didn ' t know , such a reference in the Best Traditional Music that i like. : )

  • Now I understand better your "Gourmandise sin" comment.

French food is excellent and very tempting - too easy to over indulge :-)

    If I lived in France my weight would increase :-{

I see you like Emmylou - I think she is great and looks wonderful - so glamorous for her age!
