To those who don't know, Hamlet III is on the track Abba Undeleted, from the 1994 4 CD collection Thank You For The Music. There is a rocking instrumental, heard here, and a gentler vocal version. This clip puts the two versions together.
A very clever mix, but I have to say I prefer I prefer the second one, which sounds a bit like I Have A Dream in the background.
a musical version of shakespeare should have been made based on ABBA's music, just like Mamma Mia made a big hit in the west end and all over the world. think about it; kings and queens (Dancing Queen) Dreaming (I have a dream) relationships breaking up (knowing me knowing you) etc.
Why didn't they release one of the first versions then? hehe Catchy song, as all abba songs! I absolutely think that this one is better than some of their released songs!
By the way, you're right, there isn't a third version of hamlet. It's the first with the vocals, and the second the instrumental. This is put together by a fan
Benny's stirring keyboard gives way to painful memories of "happy autumn days." A Michael Tretow working title.

does anyone know why the song is called hamlet?
modden94 1 year ago
@modden94 it's named after a Dr. Clause von Hamlet. I am unsure of who he is or his relation to the group, or even if he exists! :P

This tune became later known as the instrumental "Lottis schottis" from Benny Andersson's first solo album, Klinga mina klockor. Check it out!

This would have been great just as an instrumental, lyrics spoil it. No wonder it went no further. the start was brilliant
davidatcuwclubnet 3 years ago
They didn't go further with this song... just to make us wonder....and sing along!

Too bad B&B abandoned this one...the proper
arrangement would have been: HamletI-just
Frida & Aggie nearly a cappella with just sleigh bells in the background. Hamlet II-
the mid-tempo number where the girls were
backed by the full band. This would be the
bulk of the song. Hamlet III-the full rock
instrumental so that everyone could dance.
