  • She was fab all round, shame about the drink, drugs and sex with everyone in the 30 s and 40,s - hence the hysterectomy in 1933. She would of been a very caring person, it is a shame she never knew her mum as she died of labour complications! We love u Tallulah!!!

  • She had a private life that would put Paris Hilton to shame...;-)

  • @rotyoung Oh yeah! She was a GOOD gial !

  • "LIFEBOAT" !!

  • My God, Tallulah was a "hoot" in the true sense of the word! An incredibly funny and talented lady. She once protested that "cocaine wasn't habit forming!!" She continued on to say that, "Darling,I should know, I've been taking it for years!" Our Tallulah got her funny bits past the "censors" in a way that only Mae West would ever match.

  • gracious lady

  • @NFitalianGuy Luka Magnotta is Tallulah Bankheads cousin, I just learned.

  • She was a genius, period, and in her youth an astounding beauty and international star. She lived life as she wished and was willing to pay the price. She got slapped once by Ethel Barrymore and made a sensational guest appearance with Lucy and Desi. She could do drama, comedy, suspense, you name it. She was a big radio star as well as film star as well as stage star.

  • Growing up in Jasper, learned of her, & George"Goober" Lindsey. I'm a distant cousin of Mr. Lindsey, whose birth home is near, my grandparents(who are Lindseys). As for Tallulah, an oil painting of her, she gave, hangs in my grandparents home& my grandmom hates it.I learned was due to, relationship she once had w/grandad. Many wealthy friends of hers still live there & love to tell stories of her. My mom n law is private nurse 2 lady w/collection of great pics.& letters kept in cigar boxes.

  • I LOVEEEE the fact that Tallulah doesn't bother writing her surname like the other guests. After all, there is only ONE Tallu!! <3

  • Tallulah is my great great great great great great cousin, Im not even kidding. I just found out today, and I've never heard of her before today

  • @Dy3r13 she is my grandpa's second cousin.. her dad was John. h bankhead and my grandpa is John h. bankhead.

  • @jeannielovesrick62 You could be happy, if you were "ugly" like her !!! For me Tallu was ever B E A U T I F U L !!! Even 1961 ... Even 1965 ...

  • Tallulah gave Bennett Cerf a lapdance after the show.

    HIs estate is still suing.

  • @62easthar62 This happy, happy, happy guy !!!

  • @jeannielovesrick62 She was old but never ugly. She was really beautiful when she was younger...

  • Billie Holiday used to chow her box.

  • @oldstock1607 Why not? If it wasn't a little bit to late, I would volunteer and help Billie Holliday in this important, pleasant and honorable task ... without hesitation !!!

  • @SpaceCowboy641 Oh, I wasn't criticizing. I'd have mowed both of their boxes back in the day.

  • @oldstock1607 Oh what a relief! This makes two of us!

  • @SpaceCowboy641 fuck yeah. I would have made a Holliday-Bankhead-my face-sandwich.

  • @oldstock1607 Compliment! You know how to enjoy!

  • Love her! Many thanks!

  • Tallulah Bankhead was born in Huntsville, AL and not Jasper. She may have lived in Jasper for a while, but she was born in Huntsville. The law office that I speak of is in Huntsville, AL. Miss Bankhead's birthplace is specifically an apartment in the I. Schiffman building in Huntsville.. That apartment is now a law office.

  • @sbutler0727 Yes, I'm aware of that now. I read somewhere on here or on the internet that she was born in Huntsville. I thought all the time she was born in Jasper. Like I told raysrule, the house she lived in is up the street from where I used to live.

  • Tallulah Bankhead was from my hometown of Jasper, Alabama.

  • @countrysinger1952 well tallulah bankhead was born in my homestate of alabama

  • @raysrule94 The reason why I said this is because I noticed that somebody else said she was born in Huntsville. I thought all the time she was born in Jasper.

  • @raysrule94 The house she lived in is right up the street from where I used to live. It's a big house, too! They've made a heritage center out of it now.

  • @countrysinger1952 ive never been to jasper, i was born in bham but i live in tampa now

  • @raysrule94 I've lived in Jasper all my life except for the time I went off to college. I lived in Nashville, Tennessee then. Jasper is about an hour drive northwest of Birmingham. If you're ever in Birmingham anytime in the future, you should visit Jasper, if you get a chance.

  • @countrysinger1952 my bros a cop in bham so we visit him every once in awhile, next time we're there we will try to get over there

  • i like their calm reaction to her celebrity. they know she was in pictures, but they prefer to just sit around her and talk with her. Soo much better than the screaming banchees of today when they see a so called "celebrity".

They actually saw actresses and actors as people back then. This is refreshing

  • Miss Bankhead was a great actress but missed a lot of roles because of her bizarre lifestyle. Miss Bankhead missed on being in Gone with the Wind because of this. Miss Bankhead gave a chilling performance in Lifeboat. She should have won the Oscar for that role in my view. I have seen the place where Miss Bankhead was born. It is now a law office. Sheesh!!

  • Have you ever been to Jasper, Alabama? We have a lot of law offices here in town. Note my comment above.

  • Tallulah <333

  • First fresh collection of WML Mystery Guests in quite some time. Thanks, Norbert -- and for adding the year of appearances in this batch!

  • A very young girl named Pia Zadora was in "Midgie Purvis" with Tallulah.

  • OMG I love Tallulah.

  • "Do you now or have you ever owned a parakeet named Gaylord?" That's a great question and it was only Dorothy who asked questions like that. I've noticed that a lot of posters to WML dislike her questions but I like them.

  • What strikes me about this appearance is Tallulah's surprising generosity; she makes a point of complimenting Dorothy; acknowledging "Miss Arlene"; guiding the conversation to Martin Gabel's new play; and even throwing Art Linkletter a bone. Similarly, in her 1965 appearance, she shakes hands with Bennett Cerf, Arlene, and Martin Gabel, then kisses Dorothy on the cheek. Realizing she may have been thought rude,Talu then goes BACK to kiss Arlene, Martin and Bennett Cerf. Crazy dame, but classy.

  • @tjbnyc76 Her generosity is no surprise for me. She had a good heart !!! Love her till kingdom come ...

  • @tjbnyc76 She is Southern by birth...thats what people are taught in the South...to praise others...not oneself

  • DAHLING! I've been waiting for Tallulah's WML epsiodes for sooooo long. Thank you so much for posting them.

  • it's amazing that that face slept with everyone she could back in the 30's and 40's. let this be a lesson to what alcohol and cigarettes do to a person.

  • This may be the only time (at least on youtbube) that one of D.K.'s highly personal questions was actually aimed at the right person.

  • Spooky to see together on the same stage two of Broadway's most tragic drug addictive personalities. I once read a book that suggested that Gabel had an alcohol problem as well.

Old Time Radio websites still share recordings of NBC Radio's "Big Show," the huge live Sunday night radio variety program that Bankhead hosted from 1950 to 1952. It is still worth listening to after all these years. Fred Allen co-starred with her on a third of the broadcasts.

  • I remember seeing, as quite a little boy, Ms. Bankhead in a 1965 WML episode: she did nothing to disguise her voice. I hope someone has that videotape and posts it someday.

The play Bankhead plugs flopped, but the play Martin rehearsed turned into the success "Big Fish Little Fish."

Bankhead's mention of Dorothy "looking better" refers to this being one of Dorothy's first appearances after her Jan-Feb 1961 hospital recuperation detox for alcohol and barbiturate addiction.

  • omg thanks for posting this one

  • Good for Martin for snatching it away from DK. Just can't trust her, too aggressive.
