Well buddy, this club isn't AMA so don't assume there was a violation. Secondly, John is an accomplished jet guy who only uses the best equipment and thoroughly checks his stuff out. This was simply a malfunctioning flap servo. No amount of inspection can determine if u have a bad one. All flight controls were checked before it flew. As the saying goes, stuff happens.
According to the AMA safety code, spectators aren't allowed until AFTER an aircraft has been deemed airworthy. Murphy's Law sure bit John in the ass, on this flight....
@basimpsn Also On The TamJets A-4 You Can't Make Sharp Turns Like That, I Have The Turbine Version Converted To EDF, On Sharp Turns It Slips Off And Wants To Fall Out The Sky
Yep slick sound then row over and crash. looks like one flap stuck down. That why i keep my finger on the flap switch ontil im sure there is no rolling
Reminds me of the time I was looking for my golf ball after a faulty sliced drive. Corn fields on the right of the fairway are actually golf balls graveyards.
The owner & pilot said that at the time things went awry, he had just retracted the flaps. He carefully reviewed the video on his HD TV frame by frame and was able to determine that the right flap did not retract, causing unwanted drag. Probably a faulty servo.
Wha ... ? Were those HT Power lines below the flight path ?? Hmmm, no way an unretracted flap could cause that type of drop - Seems there was no response due to signal loss via interference from the power lines below ... that would explain why the plane never came out of the left turn and went in - Sorry for his loss though, t'was a great lookin bird :3l
The fuel tank is only used as a temporary fuel source before takeoff so as not to use up the internal tank. It is removed prior to take off. We think the crash may have been caused by a failure in one of the control surfaces, possibly one of the flaps failed to retract.

Just after you retract your landing gear your elevator stop working.

Shame the pilot didnt eject!

Looked to me like a high speed stall. Little to aggresive on the elevator.

It does seem like the RH flap is in the extended position.
That creates an asymmetry in lift. That means the right wing has more lift than the left one causing the rolling motion.
Should the pilot had more altitude he could have extended the flaps again to counteract this problem.
It is a shame to see your bird gone the first time you flew it.

Need to edit out blank footage. Took me a bit to load this one and 50% of the video is black...lol

where is this flying field
Rcow58 2 years ago
Sorry to see that happen but can I ask would that fuel tank on the wing cause uneven airflow?

Shoot what a bummer! At least he has three other jets in the trailer.
