Are all kittens born really fluffy like this even if they are short haired or long?

I have set my heart on one of my friends kittens, it is only 2 weeks at the mo and really fluffy like this, but my husband is kicking up a fuss cause he wants a short haired cat not a long haired one. The mother is shorted haired but not sure about the father. Any helpful advice welcome.

@Ratherhavethecash Depends on the breed, but give it some time to grow into its body. They'll change a lot over the next 8 weeks and you'll be able to get a better idea by then. They generally shouldn't leave the mum before then (some say no sooner than 12 weeks). So there's plenty of time for the kitten to change. :) Don't let your husband get the best of you. :)
