I LOVED Janet & Clay. Got so pissed when they took them off. As far as 'REEEG', I always Liked Cindy Garvey the best. Thought the plastic-nosed, plastic-personality K-L G should have stuck to being the 'singer' on that game show she did with Ron Eli. Ugh! Funny thing was, I had to deal with her once (KLG), and she was as (for REAL) SWEET as you can imagine. Still...
Great clip...but I know that somewhere in You Tube land, there must be a clip of "AM New York", hosted by the GORGEOUS Janet Langhart and popular DJ, the late Clay Cole. That time slot was theirs for a couple of years, but for some oddball reason, they were bounced in early 1980, and the show became "Good Morning New York" with Judy Licht and local newsman Doug Johnson. Then came this show with Regis and Cyndy Garvey. It would phenomenal to see that old Langhart/Cole show again!
@Bentom86 - "AM New York" had a parade of hosts who came and went. The first was future commercial V/O John Bartholomew Tucker (from 1970 to 1972), then a succession of hosts and guest hosts (including a 1973 edition hosted by Leonard Nimoy and Kaye Ballard where photographer Philippe Halsman was the guest; plus, as of 1974, "Eyewitness News' " then-theatre critic Kevin Sanders).
@Bentom86 - P.S. Before Ms. Licht and Mr. Johnson, I seem to recall Spencer Christian and another lady whose name I forgot co-hosted "Good Morning New York."
@Bentom86 - Langhart and Cole were the last hosts of WABC's morning show under the "A.M. New York" banner, which lasted until Feb. 29, 1980. ("Good Morning New York" - with Mr. Christian and Andrea Kirby as hosts at first - debuted April 14, 1980. Of the parade of hosts, only Judy Licht appears to have lasted.)
"THE MORNING SHOW" was indeed a local program on WABC-TV {9-10am} before it "morphed" into the syndicated "LIVE WITH REGIS AND KATHIE LEE" in 1988. Nobody remembers when Stanley Siegel was host in the '70s, before "Reege" succeeded him.
@davemock Spencer Christian came to San Francisco to do the weather for KGO and a Talk Show before Oprah called the View from the Bay. How was Spencer like In NYC?
@fromthesidelines - Actually, Mr. Philbin's immediate predecessors on what ended as "Good Morning New York" in early 1983 were Doug Johnson and Judy Licht. ("The Morning Show" was actually a REPLACEMENT for what began as "AM New York" in 1970 and went through two other titles [the aforementioned "GMNY" and, in the 1977-78 period, "The Stanley Siegel Show"].) But until Kathie Lee joined "Reege," "The Morning Show's" ratings were as abysmal as the previous "AM / Good Morning New York."
I remember The Morning Show. I used to watch it sometimes with my Great Grandparents. Had no idea Regis would be so big 20 plus years later. Great stuff!
Its great cos the whole "Live with..." formula is so basic that it works today as it did over 20 years ago. I think Mary Hart was also a host for a little while if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, Regis has always been the man!
Thumbs up if you will be watching this clip tomorrow, the day Regis retires.

For some reason, this theme reminds me of Benson. Heh, that's the '80s for you. :P

Some people I know in Jersey still refer to live as "The Morning Show."
johnissoevil 2 years ago
Michael Karp later did the theme for the 1990 Canadian travel series, "Discovery 90", with Vic Phillips.

Oh, I remember Stanley Siegel, Dan Daniel ("AM New York," I think) and Spencer Christian, among other personalities.

Wow! Didn't know Regis was with ABC's morning program this long. Hostesses come and go but Regis is one of a kind!

@KroovyMonsoon However Reeges show was orginally a local show from LA called AM Los Angeles in the 1970's

Mary Hart actually co-hosted Regis's short-lived NBC daytime show in 1981.
