I purchased this laptop 2 weeks ago for travel. It is good however I have one comment: DOESN"T COME CLOSE TO 10 HOURS BATTERY LIFE!
Sure I know it "depends on usage" blah blah... but I am only getting 4.5 hours when using it and when it is sitting there doing absolutely nothing, on battery saving mode, with the screen on min brightness it gets 6 hours. I have even had the battery replaced as I thought it was faulty. The new battery is the same. I've asked ASUS for a second battery but no love.
@npaton2292 Are you making sure that the laptop isn't constantly searching for a wireless internet hotspot? That might be why your battery's going down so fast.
@npaton2292 i have the same notebook. i think you should use the "Power4Gear Battery Saving" settings. They seem to be more effective in extending battery life than the standard windows 7 battery saver mode. assuming that i only browse the web for work purposes and use documents, i get a good 6 hours from it.
i bought this after being an apple fanboy for like half a decade, and this little computer is FEAKING awesome, I'm running win7 and ubuntu and god i love this THING!
ASUS is the one PC I've seen perform consistently well. Every one I've met who has one, loves it. Mine's over a year and a half old and it still runs beautifully. While being surrounded by Macs. When it comes to PCs rivaling Macs, it really comes down to hardware quality and how well the owner takes care of their computer, and ASUS has some nice hardware.
I just hate how my computer is so damn plasticky. Lol. But that's a PC for you. I just love Apple's big chunk of aluminum.
Go ahead and buy your overpriced rotten APPLE that you can't upgrade unless you buy more APPLE BS....
I'll stick to PC and buy great ASUS products at half the price, but with the same performance and spend the rest of the money I saved on other components, or on beer and hookers.
Thank you Apple fanbois for keeping the cost of ASUS products low.
@staphinfection Asus sells more computers than apple, what makes you think apple even have a significant share in the desktop market? Asus price remain competitive not because of apple presence. Apple is the anomaly here, their products are overpriced for the hardware quality they provide, and very few people actually use a mac desktop. In uni, apple and windows laptop are split, but the library and offices all run windows, often with some Asus hardware in them. Apple is still a minority.
u31jg has same specs but an NVIDIA 415/425M which is way more powerfu. Weights 100 gr more and has less fancy case. To be released the upcoming week ;)
MacBook Air is still sexier but the steep asking price ($1,500) makes Asus the more attractive. Furthermore, the full voltage iCore5 on Asus will absolutely beat the crap out of the Core Duo on Air. Can't wait to see the reviews on this thing!
@shinsource Apple screens are WSGA which Asus uses on its regular laptops, yet high end Asus Laptops like their gaming versions {like mine }uses the best - WUXGA high Def quality screens and look amazing. So no Apple's screen are not better!
Looks awesome. Hmm, 13.3" is a little too big to carry around all the time though. I'd prefer 12" the most, but nothing good seems to fit in that size :(
@Touhou1990 You just showed us how illiterate you are, and how much knowledge about computer you have. You can't even read the specification and know if it's better than a MacAir or not. Well, not that I'm surprised from a Mac fanboy LOL
Keyboard looks like back-lit but may be misleading. Also, "Powerfully Beautiful" - what kind of ad phrase is that? Nonetheless, this is shaping up to be one piece of sexy hardware. Let's just hope that the keyboard and battery don't disappoint.
They're bloody brilliant. They're ranked as the most reliable laptops available as well (according to the % of Asus laptops brought in for warranty claims).
The 10 hours of battery life on this thing seems plausible as well. Seeing as a similar model from them promises 12 hours and actually outputs around 11 or so under testing.
does anyone happen to know the name of the song playing?
