This movie has so many themes, 'and a child shall lead them',multi-generational,
traditional cultures vs 'modern', losing/finding oneself, failing to see what is right in front of us... and for everyone who has ever been told what she can and cannot be or do 'because she is a girl'.
Truly one of those "under the radar" great movies, though the actress was nominated for an Oscar. This scene was so moving once you see the scenes leading up to it.
Kiaora! Very beautiful movie!

why did she do this?
marneebox 3 months ago
@marneebox So that all the other whales would follow her back to sea and not be stranded on the beach to die.

"I wasn't scared to die..."
Makes me tear up every time. And then when she lets go of the whale in the end, I start crying. :'( Such a sad but beautiful scene...

This is an amazing scene that transcends generations. We all should be able to realize that the greatest gifts can come unexpected sources.

Thank you for posting this. I had been looking for this scene with the original Lisa Gerrard soundtrack to it!
This is one of the most endearing movies I have ever been fortunate to find and watch...and OWN! :)
