  • I have this game for my gamecube :D Time to dust it off.

  • >Awesome review

    >Stoney highlander theory

    Yes.

  • And, on another note, the concept art for the pilot of the Ikaruga seems to have what looks like two rounds in his forehead.

  • WHY DO SHMUPS HAVE SUCH AMAZING MUSIC

  • @rock100010000 Oh, it gets much better than this. And this is virtually perfect.

  • One of the toughest games I've ever played--back in the day, my friend and I literally took HOURS just to reach the boss. Needless to say, we never even touched level 2.

..Wish I had a copy right now :(

  • @OmgImShuaixD its not THAT hard .... ??

  • Ikaruga For Treasure Inc.

Master Piece From Gamecube and Dreamcast

  • The transitions between battle sequences are epic!

  • i've never played this game in my life, but damn... it looks AWESOME!

  • @squerintain YOu can get it for the gamecube for 20 bucks. They did make it for North America. :D

  • does anyone know the plot of this game if not i'll tell you

once a upon a time a nation found the powers of god or yin-yang energy with this the nation decaded war on the world destorying each nation in the name of peace as a responce a freedom force of the worlds nations went to fight but since there ships were so powerful the freedom force was defeaten

you play as shingau a young piolt who yows to destory the evil nation. he finds a village who make him a ship called the ikruga to fight WIKI

  • hum I see some improvement from the Gamecube...

  • is the intro music from timesplitters

  • It was on Dreamcast before Gamecube!

  • @bbutters2 T'was, and the arcade before the Dreamcast.

  • Highlander is lame, get off it's teet :P

  • this was the game that got me started on shmumps and is my favorite one. even though i suck at it, to call it epic still doesnt do it justice.

  • Chuck Norris is hard.

  • @CichliDaqi

    So is his cock.

  • But Mark this was originally for the Dreamcast, and we all know your opinions on that...

  • @Leishmaniasisably

It was originally for the arcade, then it was ported to the dreamcast.

  • Comment removed

  • Once again in order for a game system to be popular they have to use games originally for the Dreamcast!!!!!! Goes to show you how amazing the Dreamcast still and always will be......VIVA LA DREAMCAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • eekaruga aikaruga eekaruga aikaruga shXt....

  • Why does everyone say white and black? It's red and blue!

  • @techn0FTW i think it's Because manual and information said Black and White or Yin and Yang.

  • @techn0FTW the actual ship is black/white

  • TH has the same amount of bullets, just without the colour-changing ability. ...on Easy.

  • You completely omitted the chain system! :)

  • Dude, it ain't that hard to pronounce. Ee-ka-roo-gah.

    Good review though.

  • You should try "Karous" for the dreamcast, thats a pretty awesome game, it adds a sort of asteroids way of control to the typical vertical shooter, really fun to play and looks amazing : )

  • I played this game a couple of times...it made me stroke out.

  • @See4

    haha

  • Holy shit you really NEED to bring back this intro

  • 0:57 damn, i love that part of the song! just fits to the scene xD

  • I'm pretty sure the kanji for Ikaruga are supposed to mean something, and the game isJapanese anyway, so I'm afraid your comment at 8:35 is not applicable. Also, I pronounce Ikaruga as IKE-uh-ROO-guh. If you want, I'll post a video comment to make it more clear.

  • @zandermanandcassymom Ikaruga means 'grossbeak' in japanese

  • I've beaten this game on hard mode using genkei on my sega dreamcast. its very hard! but i only used one continue and my score after i beat the game was 31547500!!!!

  • @JackassLamda Warning: Only you can just shut the fuck up, thank you...

  • energy max... energy max...

  • I played this for the first time of my Dreamcast tonight on my 42 in TV.

    Mind=Blown

  • @ShitfuckCommentary and one look through your recent activity shows you're nothing more than a youtube troll on multiple videos. That's okay, at least what I do takes SOME skill

  • I love Highlander, (not the second one) and the crazy meandering, digressive ramblings your reviews take most of the time. Really enjoyed this one.

  • Ikaruga is amazing and Radiant Silvergun is even better!

  • The first time I played Ikaruga, and shot down an enemy, I heard those awesome explosion sound effects, my jaw literally dropped.

  • Why does this make me feel nostalgic, yet ive never played it, and its not even old?

  • @Gamevideos3452 it was originally an arcade game then later a dreamcast game in japan and then a gamecube game in america.

    read the description :)

  • i like touhou better

  • Ugh, I can't watch this. Terrible player.

  • @KingDavid73 Mischief Makers - N64

  • @KingDavid73 Another

  • I loved this game, got it on the DC and GCN but I admit I suck at it, I can't even get passed the wagon wheel boss. I love everything about this game though. Especially the Dot Eater mode which is so cool.

  • I have the original on dreamcast... And I wouldnt sell it for even 1000$.

Why? For the chain system, but also for the chapter 4 wich is the most insane challenge in the video game history..

  • I play this on Dreamcast for 2 reasons. 1. I cant afford to buy points and 2. i cant afford to buy points. Which is a major bummer, but im gonna try and defend myself and say "PLAYING ON THE DREAMCAST IS HARDCORE RETRO".

  • I played the demo to this game, which was only level one, but I fell in love with the game. Level 1 was easyish not to difficult and had a nice flow, great music, and felt great to play. So I bought it not knowing how FAST the difficult scaling shoots through the roof!! I love this game but I don't like how level memorization truley is the only way to be good at it. I want to play it how I want to play it and not exactly like the pro the mastered it before me.

  • Gamecube??? Dreamcast better.

  • Does anyone know the difference between all the versions? I mean, the Gamecube version doesn't have the poem-like texts at the beginning of each stage, but the Xbox 360 version does while it doesn't feature the "Select Game Mode" screen which has Shinra walking to the Ikaruga, but the Dreamcast has both of it, but aren't they all the same?

  • I play this on my Dreamcast all time...fun as hell!

  • Its pronounced I<3uga

  • @TargetRender Thnx !!! u really helped me.

  • I really want this game but i dunno what to do. Is the XBLA version HD or should I buy the gamecube boxed version and use it with my Wii and componet cables

  • Ikaruga (E-kuh-roo-guh). Hope that helps

  • can anyone educate me about this new shooter that was released on xbla today..its called guwange..is it a re-release of an old classic?..it looks good

  • @CAVALLIN0

Yes it is a rerelease. Not one of my favorites and it isn't as tough as other shooters out there but still a good game.

  • some of my other favorite Treasure games are:

    Dynamite Heady - Genesis

    Gunstar Heroes - Genesis

    Guardian Heroes - Saturn

  • @KingDavid73 I couldn't agree more, all 3 of the games u mention are true classics,I've NEVER came across a treasure game that hasn't blown me away.I had guardian heros for my Saturn but thanks to my 360 I've got both gunstar heroes(xbla)& the insane/amazing dynamite heady on the ultimate sonic collection.Radiant silvergun is already confirmed for xbla, all we need now is guardian heroes & the gr8 saturn game from treasure sillouette mirage to come 2 xbla, then I can die happy!

  • @socillizt4life agreed! Even if Guardian Heroes doesn't come out on XBLA, Castle Crashers is a pretty good substitute.

  • @KingDavid73 ;yeah ur right,castle crashers is a gr8 game,it's a very treasuresque type game.

  • I love this game. I have it for Dreamcast, but I still bought the XBLA version.

  • At last it's official,Radiant Silvergun IS coming to xbla.ALL HAIL TREASURE!

  • @wimmywoo It is coming to XBL! :) rejoice!

  • @wimmywoo After a year it is done.

  • @wimmywoo Done, aaaand done!

  • Ikaruga isn't a game, it's living proof that batshit insanity can be beautiful

  • bow down to treasure

  • i heard you say "i have not gotten to the end of the game yet"...... dude thats like..... yea good luck with that

  • Thanks for reviewing this game, but please get your facts and history organized before you actually record the review. The game design is a child of the Silhouette Mirage(Sega Saturn) polarity shifting, in shmup form, and was originally released on the Sega Dreamcast. Thanks for making this though, Ikaruga kicks ass.

  • @nosoulboy13 yes - good call on polarity shifting coming from Silhouette mirage, a classic...

  • @nosoulboy13 Yes. Also, Silhouete Mirage was developed by Treasure, too - so it's easy to see how they used the same concept in Ikaruga.

  • Radiant Silvergun is coming to LIVE ARCADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @wimmywoo it's done now

  • Whats better, Ikaruga or Radiant Silvergun?

  • @ShadowXRouge i like more or RS but it really depends on your style of play.

  • @ShadowXRouge Radiant silvergun its worth like £80 and way up.

  • @wimmywoo It has been done! :D

  • I got this a few days ago for the Gamecube and it's awesome.

  • "I will not die until I achieve something.

Even though the ideal is high, I never give in.

Therefore, I never die with regrets."

  • Love this game...

  • This game looks fucking insane. If Christopher Nolan saw this game he would be like, "Nah, I ain't fucking with that shit." (Inception joke).

Wondering if you would review the Street Fighter 3rd Strike I, II, and III?

  • @calvinthao This game isn't really that insane. But someone who thought Inception was complex or even good would probably enjoy it.

  • @AntiReviews

lol, this faggot prolly died on chapter 1 normal endlessly and now has to put down others to feel superior.

    please kill yourself

  • Comment removed

  • @DistantLover666 Maybe you didn't understand the concept of Ikaruga, but it's a game where you can actually absorb the bullets at any given time. This turns it into a puzzle game and not an intense shooter.

  • @AntiReviews i reckon its intense

  • @AntiReviews

Very true. I agree. People who have never played CAVE shmups tend to think this is as intense as it gets.

  • Now some more Cave games, Radiant Silvergun and the original Sin & Punishment.

  • i really enjoyed your video

  • this game does not look as hard as mushihimesama futari that game is just unfair

  • @killroththehallow That game is mainly just patterns. Hard as fuck patterns, but patterns nonetheless. I've played both and I'd say that Mushi is harder, but not nearly as fun.

  • Ikaruga is waaay easier to chain than Radiant Silvergun (in fact it's easier overall, gameplay-wise, except it gives you less lives and continues), and has this very interesting polarity mechanic. It's a fantastic game, but I still think Radiant Silvergun is better. The weapons, the bosses, the music. It's amazing.

  • They pronounce Ikaruga both ways in Blazblue so, either way is fine I suppose.

  • GIVE US RADIANT SILVERGUN FOR PS3,360,WII, and PC

  • I want the game to be remade on a hand held O___O so bad. I want to play this all the time

  • Dreamcast,GameCube,XBL,and Arcade :)

  • i used to KILL at this game. could always get an S rank. i should never have sold it. i may cry now. oh and btw level 4, "Reality" is brutal. check it out.

  • its just pronounced I-ka-ru-ga i think.

  • This game is insane! i have it on the dreamcast, and it seems to be the most beautiful game i've ever seen.

  • Nintendo Gamecube errrrr Dreamcast surely???

  • I love this game! I have it for the dreamcast and it rocks! GREAT VIDEO!

  • great game shame about the annoying borders...

  • is it the 2nd hardest game in the world?

  • @drummercow Hardly the 2nd hardest game ever ;) For a modern shooter, it's quite average as far as difficulty goes (check out games like Perfect cherry blossom and the other Touhou games, and you will see what I mean ;) )

  • @AFnord Screw that. Look up mushahime-sama!

  • the real reason it says at the start of the game 'therefore I never die with regrets' is because as anybody who has completed it will know is that the ikaruga ship has to destroy itself with the amount of energy it has 2 release 2 defeat the final boss!

  • u sound like jose from screwattack lolz no offense

  • I've heard of this game so often since it first came out on the Gamecube. Only just played it for the first time last week. This game is amazing in so many ways.

Thanks for the review! Keep it up.

  • White to black...like Soul Man...lmao

  • I wonder how many people got that reference. Fuck, I haven't seen that film for ages.

  • It's the chain system that really sets this game apart but he failed to mention it.This would be the best shooter ever if it wasn't for treasures earlier masterpiece radiant silvergun.

  • @socillizt4life lots of top down shooters have chain systems. name another top down shooter that has badass music and polarity shields.

  • @NissanSkyline666 'Yeah lots of scrolling shooters have chain systems, but none of them have perfected it to the point of ikaruga,it's what gives the game its addictiveness & longevity. No other shooter has had me so hooked not even radiant silvergun which had the 2nd most effective chain system after this, hence it's the chain system that sets it apart along with everything else the reviewer mentioned.

  • @socillizt4life Because he doesn't mention or know about anything. Get used to it.

  • Holy crap this guy is good!

  • didnt this come out on the cube?

  • It did.

  • i hope they will make another radiant silvergun which is just like this kind of gameplay.

  • @ConfuseingGameing

    On the dreamcast before that.

  • @ConfuseingGameing On Dreamcast first

  • @RaZoRxan wasn't half the stuff on the Gamecube on the Dreamcast first? all sega titles minus heroes and riders (2 games we want to forget about) Ikaruga, gauntlet.... only question is; was power stone 2 brought to the GC? and if not I guess melee didn't want competition.

  • @ConfuseingGameing yes, and he stated that; it's in Arcades, on Gamecube (and thus the Wiis Gamecube compatibility) and was brought to Xbox Live Arcade

  • PSP for homebrew and littlebigplanet

  • Man, I would have LOVED to have done the Music to this game.

  • Yeah, Highlander's a bit of a classic.

  • Maddox said this game was "nipples-on-a-blind-lesbian-in-a-fish-market hard. "

  • Fuck Maddox. It's cool of him to support Ikaruga, but fuck him for all of the other horseshit he writes about.

  • @RyanFromUltrasound If you're playing blind, yes.

If you've studied the masters (read: watched a fuckload of YT videos) you can remember where enemies popup and the game won't be so over whelming.

  • do NOT play Mushihimesama Futari!!!!

  • Ah you didn't tell about the point collecting system!!!!

  • Playing Raiden 3 while getting sprayed with a fire hose just doesn't sound fun to me, but hey. Whatever your fetish is, feel free to keep doing it.

  • Thie is the best shmup that has been produced. Hopefully a sequal wil come out, or even just another shmup that uses thepolarity system.

  • Ikaruga's really excellent, but there are way nicer shmups out there. I think Treasure outdid this game when they worked on Gradius V.

  • try einhander.

  • @duhmez If you're craving more, someone's made a freeware clone called Kairuga.

  • He forgot to mention anything about the combo chain system which really brings up the difficulty in the game D:

  • EE-kuh-Roo-guh

DAMMIT i want to play this

  • Finally got a computer good enough to run saturn emulators at full speed. Radiant slivergun is working and ready to go. That game is somehow better than this. Both are up there in my 10 ten games ever and im not a shmup geek either.

  • THE FINAL BOSS IS THE SUPER DEVIL!!!

  • I'm shocked Mark didnt have this for the Dreamcast

  • ya mon, why don't they do that already

  • EE-KAH-RU-GA

that's how you pronounce it =D

    Love this game!

  • This is easily one of the greatest vertical shooters of all time. I'm glad Treasure spent the time to port this over to the Xbox 360 for everyone to enjoy.

However, with Treasure doing a great job bringing great vertical shooters to the Xbox 360, CAVE really needs to jump on the ball and release their vertical shooters (and horizontal ones like Death Smiles) to the North American Xbox 360 market.

Thanks for the good review Classic Game Room, but no mention of the "chain system" anywhere?

  • So this game *will* run on a 360?

  • Is this a serious question?

  • Ummm...yes? I don't know anyhting about XBOX live, apparently.
