  • i always wish brandon routh would do its remake. if not then tom welling after all both have the soulful essence like the late christopher reeve had.

  • I loved this movie. I almost cried when he looked at the penny...

  • Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymore AND Christopher Plummer?? I didn't think it was that kind of film!

  • christopher reeve was a great actor for this role dam the emotion he puts when he looks at the picture of elise at the end made me cry...

  • "You're crazy! You gonna put all this time and effort to learn about time travel, put time into changing your appearance to blend into the time period, should you even succeed, and ATTEMPT to travel to the past! All of this to find a woman whose portrait you fell in love with and whom approached you in elderly age, asking you to "Come back to her". You're crazy!" When a movie astounds you with its leap of faith like that, it truly is a masterpiece.

  • I was there. I was there. Gives me chills everytime.

  • Ah I caught this on TV one Saturday afternoon about 20 yrs ago ... it's been a favourite ever since ... I cry buckets every time I see it ... love a good weepie

  • A wonderfully romantic movie supported by a fabulous music score. Proving how true love will once again persevere, despite the fact that Richard wore the same suit for several days without a change and spent the night in a barn, and she was still keen. .. Go Elise!!!

  • Omg. I'm 13 and I did not know that this movie existed. Well, me and my family just went to Mackinaw island and I was kinda really exhausted but, it was beautiful. Undeniably gonna watch this movie, pronto! -3

  • one of the most underrated movies of all time......

  • my all time favorite movie...

  • Pretty sure this film proved the theory of relativity, which postulates that if you concentrate hard enough, time travel is possible.

  • This is why we always throw our pennies away.

  • only 9 dislikes. what are they, loveless people? :D

  • @HoTKayliffeVoX those who have disliked this don't know what TRUE love is.

  • @UrfyGurls1923 lol bingo :D maybe jaded people

  • Omg i love this movie, i just bought the dvd to it :)

  • awesome movie w/fabulous music, very haunting now

  • awesome movie

  • RIP Christopher Reeves and Bill Erwin :(

  • elise mckenna "is it you?", "is he the one?"i wonder when i can say those lines. i love jane seymour classic beauty

  • omg.i fell inlove with this movie and the soundtrack i think its rhapsody"not sure. .i watched this many times and i never get bored.this movie is timeless. i hope i can have a novel

  • Fun fact-- this movie was filmed on a tiny island that they don't allow cars on. Only horses and bicycles. The shots you see of the town in 1912 are how it still looks today. "Macinaw Island," just a few miles away from where I grew up.

  • superman is cheating on louis lol.

  • I love this movie and the theme song

  • @BRiiBearrx3

I can see why you didn't go on the porch. 10 to 20 dollars just to stand on it is a bit much, but it would be so worth it. Thats great that you got your picture taken standing in front of it. Thats a great way to remember your experience on seeing it. :D

  • @BRiiBearrx3

Oh you're so lucky. I wish I could travel to the actual hotel and see it. :D

  • I watched this last night. I would like 2 hours of my life back.

  • This is my all time favorite romantic movie! :)

  • this is for Julie vega and christopher reeve

  • OMG I love this movie so much I wanna cry! It is my all time fav....FIRST ONE!

  • In memory of composer John Barry Nov 3, 1933-Jan 30 2011

  • beautiful movie!!!

  • why does she say is it you??

  • @MarkTimchuk It was explained during the making of the movie, that it was written in the novel as a way of saying, Is it you that i will love forever?

  • @Sweetmervs yes i get that. But y? Is it because william somehow knew about Richard would come to her from the future and know that she would fall in love with him and he would go back to the future and she would quit acting to find richard....

  • stupid penny!!!!!!!!!

  • hey do you guys remember Superman the Movie?

  • ♥ My favorite movie... Every once that I see it, I cry!

  • OH, MY. All these years and it still makes me cry. Why is it we love to cry, to feel, to experience such? Wonderful movie, thank you for posting.

  • BEST!

  • My favorite movie and Island to live. Just read Bill Erwin passed Dec. 29. How sad, met him on Mackinac years ago, sweet and funny gentleman. Thanks Bill.

  • the most beautiful film I have ever seen. MAGICAL X

  • i skated ( ice skated) with this song and fell in love with it!

i absolutely want to c the movie!

  • A low-key narrator. Perfect.

  • This is magic...Love and passion..

  • Aaw so romantic

  • This movie and Titanic are my two favorite romances. This movie never gets old. It's one of the best. A classic. :D

  • Reeves is brilliant; carrying this picture to victory. He manages both comedic and dramatic timing perfectly; and saves the film from Seymour's melodramatic ass. I would have loved more scenes with Reeves and legend Teresa Wright. the chick-flick territory the film's trailer tip toes around (which it, surprisingly, is NOT) is frustratingly misleading. It's much more-- It's a high concept adventure for grown ups, way ahead of Universal's "Back to the Future" formulaic cashcow.

  • By today's standards, this picture would look cheap and border on soap-operatic; although Seymour bears the brunt of that (she plays it kinda "Lifetime movie of the week"). Every sweeping master shot of the film (too bad there aren't many) is thrown into this trailer, trying to present it as more epic than the finished product belies it to be. Ultimately, this works both for and against this art-housey picture. You end up feeling somehow rewarded for sticking with it in the end.

  • the trailer really doesn't do this quiet gem justice. If this picture were made today (which, given the sophmoric / explosive pre-requisites of Universal's contemporary slate, it definitely wouldn't be produced) it would have the budget and director it deserved. The premise, performances, and set dressers all worked overtime to give the picture a fighting chance. If you can get past the-- "scotch tape and cardboard 'come on, lets put on a show'"-- feeling, the concept and acting are clever.

  • no time traveling romance movie is like this its the best movie and i watched the time travelers wife i did cry and i thought it was a good movie but not like this one here

  • I cried T_T

  • This is the best time travel film and one of the most greatest romantic movies ever made on planet Earth! Story is ingenious, actors are great, milieu and period piece are superb, music is wonderful, emotions are big... Everything is in right place. I love this beautiful movie from all my heart! If this does not make you cry, your heart is stone. ^_^

  • @teiska123 I know! I watched this and started tearing up at the end. :'( Sooooo sad!

  • lovely

  • i like this movie the first time that i see and i love jane i will like to have an experience like that, regards from colima mexico

  • our house land title was 1913...

  • jane seymour kind of favors paulina porizkhova

  • One of the emotional movies ever!

When ever I watch, I am reminded of my love, who died.

  • the firstime i watched this movie was when i was 7 yrs old with my mom till then i repeatedly watch this movie..... until now when ever i watch this movie i still cried... the best love story (movie) i have ever seen......not to mensioned the time travelers wife...

  • 這部經典的電影,搭配溫柔悠揚的旋律與經典的人物。

    超人與氣質美女的完美演繹..

    真是浪漫與奇想的佳作

  • I watched this movie with a friend back in1982 ....watching this again has brought back all the magic of such a truely beautful film.....I named my daughter Elise after this film...... who is now 24.

  • my situation right know is in reverse, i found true love in the future. Im 40yrs old & in love with a 16 yr old. If only I could travel time & meet her in the future will make our dreams possible. Cuz know everything is wrong, a wrong love at the right time for me.

  • Haunted/taunted by this movie. I did a post at my site with this timeless piece, in supplement. Beautiful COMMENTS: 'inspiring'; 'sheer sereness'; 'arts at its best', 'heart-pounding!!!!!!! Chills to my bones!!!!!Magnifico!!!!!!! And I could cry while listening to it:.....'; 'Noy...you are a huge part of my intention to know extraordinary beings...you inspire me and I am grateful. Namaste beloved being...'; '... always like your inspiring words ...!'. What can I say? OMG! Overwhelming!

  • I saw this movie and loved the film score by Sir John Barry. It connects me to a friend I lost in America. I flew to see friends in Canada and was surprised to learn I was not too far from Mackinac Island. On the boat heading for the island I listened to the soundtrack watching the Grand Hotel get nearer and it sent shivers. I walked up to the Grand Hotel and it was very moving. I had lunch in the dining room. Nothing in England can compare to it. My friend and i carried a 1912 English penny.

  • @1912cunard

Awww. How sweet. It sounds like you had a grand time. I'm so jealous. lol. :D

  • All I have to do is hear the soundtrack to this and bawl like a baby rdanlord!....Oh to have a love like that..:::sigh:::

  • This movie is so beautiful, she was so preety and he so handsome; just a gentleman in the whole sense of the word.

Yes, you can't help but cry.

  • This movie looks fantastic, even if the trailer is a bit outdated. Jane Seymour was a very beautiful and talented actress, and Christopher Reeves was a great Superman. The plot definitely looks interesting and the music sounds epic. MUST see this!

  • Just ran onto this on netflix and I remember watching it as a kid. Still remember trying to time travel with a penny. Still remember shedding a few tears too. A sad but beautiful movie.

  • My mother had the soundtrack on record in the eighties, and I grew up getting to hear the beautiful music and later enjoyed the movie as a teenager. It really is a beautiful film.

  • It's hard to imagine this film being done now and not having it turn out painfully cynical, isn't it?

  • Hell I cry'ed for years because I had a look a like I fell in love with that look just like Ms. Jane Seymour, Damn to this day I still miss'es this women, and ever time I see this movie it bring me back to the time we were together, "Got Damn it! Am I was Her first Love and She was Mines, DAMN!

  • Years ago my niece gave me a CD of film songs, and the theme from this movie was on there. It was haunting, and out of curiosity I rented the film. I have been a teary eyed fan ever since. Just watched it again about twenty minutes ago! :-)

  • painfull quality. why bother uploading this crap? its a dishonour for this wonderful movie

  • My college professor told me about this film. I was mesmerized by the story. The time travel was great. It makes me believe that love is the most powerful urge in the world. This movie is one of the greatest classics ever made.

  • One of the greatest love stories ever on film and my choice for the best love story ever told

  • i so love this movie that it came to a point where i want to experience that kind of time travel..

  • i love this movie so much. RIP Christopher Reeve <3 <3 <3

  • That's soooo weird Sax, until you posted that date, I didn't realize that's my girlfriends and mine anniversary...

  • My wife and I consider this the all time favourite movie for both of us. We first saw it on HBO in 82 and swore we would purchase it some day. We also decided to name our daughter(born in 95) Elise. We are INSITE members(12 yrs) and hope to get to the Grand Hotel some time to experience this magical, mystical story where it was filmed. We also discovered, upon seeing it HD on DVD, that Richard signed into the hotel on our wedding day, June 28th, the same yr it was filmed!!!!

  • an old school trailer! fuck yeah!

  • Like it.

  • The narrator sounds mad.

  • 1:37 is the grand hotel on Mackinac Island

  • I never understood why the critics were so hard on this great film. I loved it! And I still get the chills, and all tingly every time I see it.. So beautiful, romantic.. so mesmerizing the music.. Christopher Reeve, and Jane Seymour on Macanaw Island.. what could be better than that! ... I'll never know~

  • I first knew the song for years, unknowing the movie. Now I've got the DVD feeling attracted.

Actually, this story means so much to me... Is there a link possible, so high, so obvious between two people who never met? Could it be possible that love escape borders of reason, places or time?

In some way, this story put images on feelings of my life I would never forget. A part of my love life I hope, I wish, I will recover and finish somewhere in another time...

  • existe história mais bonita?

acho q não... este filme realmente marcou muito .

    i love you !

  • OMG! I am reading this novel now and I want to see this movie!!! The novel is incredible though I have read just the half of it.

  • @adelina2686 Where can I obtain a copy?

  • @globetrekker86 I am from Kazakhstan, so I read this book in Russian, Unfortunately, I don't have DVD of the movie though I would love to have one. ))))

  • @adelina2686 , who's the author of the book? I've been looking for it

  • This movie is so gorgeous, and the ending makes me cry.

  • One of the most poignant movies of all time....the theme was derived from Rachmaninoff 18th Variation (Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini) and one of the most brilliant interpretations was that of Ingrid Sala Santamaria

  • There is another movie similar to this that came out in 1987. It's called Made in Heaven. It stars Timothy Dalton and Kathy Mcginnis.

  • It's Superman! :)

Hehe I love Christopher Reeve .. pity he's dead :(

  • This is my favorite movie of all time . The music is so hauntingly beautiful. And Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour are perfect as Richard and Elise.

I have been to the Island where it was filmed 6 times now and I am still in awe of The Grand Hotel. It is truly like going back in time when you are there on Mackinac Island.

This is perhaps the best film Chris ever made. He is sadly missed.

    .

  • watched it more than 30x

  • Me too, bitoypower...maybe even more..I can't explain it!!!!

  • This is one of my favorite movies of all time! I saw it for the first time when I was 13, and it still makes me cry every time I see it 13 years later!

does it have any origin whatsoever??

Or has it spent an eternity goin in a loop from the 80s to the early 1920s......

    Yea.... Think about it!!!!

Oh yea and that damn penny still ticks me off everyone I watch this movie and see him find it!!!! Grrrr

  • wow speaks volumes to me about a lost soul trying to create a new world for himself to find the love he could not in this one. were you there.? yes I was there? and i still am. wow watching time fly in a "new way". l.o.v.e. is a.l.i.v.e.

  • this is one of my favorite movies - especially since it was filmed in Michigan where I am from. It is a beautiful Island - and Christopher Reeves another great that was Gone too Soon. JM

  • Ooh I'm from Michigan too! Hugh Hefner tweeted about watching it so I came looking for the trailer...it would make me too sad to watch Christopher Reeve I think though.. :\

  • I love this music,!!!!

  • I was aware of this movie with Christopher Reeve. It took me 28 years before I first saw it. According to his wife Dana, it best resembles the man she married. For those who enjoy it and want to know more about it's production. Google it, and read a story from a woman who was a extra in the production and got to spend some time off camera with Jane and Christopher.

  • I hate chick flicks but hey! This movie is something special. It had me thinking for weeks on end. Christopher Reeve is just awesome. his finest film.

  • The soundtrack of this movie is so emotional..I can feel the story by listening to it.

  • my favorite movie of all time!

  • For me, one of the best films that i have seen. Its beautiful and romantic. Perfect in every way!!!

  • Pureluck101 said it perfectly: speechless. I am a guy & normally I'm not very interested in romantic type movies. This one is different. I can watch this one. The only problem is that it makes me choke up so bad that I can hardly breathe, much less speak! I loved it the minute I saw it. Great story, great acting, great John Barry score.

  • My favorite movie ever!! Everyone should visit mackinac island where it was filmed =)

  • this movie is fantastic and beautiful the first time i watched it was around the age of 10 and i loved it back then thats how amazing the movie is. it definately makes me cry. christopher reeve is a wonderful actor and will be missed.

  • I just watched this for the first time a few minutes ago and I am speechless .. Im not usually into the romantic type of movies but this one is different. And the ending knocked the wind out of me. Im not ashamed to admit I shed a few tears...I can count on one hand how many movies have done that to me .

  • R.I.P. Christopher Reeve. Thanks for everything!!

  • Esse filme é lindo demais!!!!!!

    É liiiiiiiiiiiindo!!!

Eu amo!!! Apesar de chorar muito toda vez no final! :D

  • sad sad movie.

  • Since 1982, the first time I ever watched this movie, It still to this day has the same effect on me. I haven't seen it in two years, because I watched it with my date and cried like a baby...and I was 47 years old. Tonight I watched just this trailer and cried all over again.

  • @rdanlord it was a beautiful, touching movie. the soundtrack is beautiful.. i listen to it quite a lot. it's already 30 years of this movie. i hope they'll release more music tracks. i'm glad i had the opportunity to have met C. REEVE & gotten his autograph. i just cried when he passed away.**** enjoy.****

  • @rdanlord you should go to Mackinac sometime

  • Looks like a good movie.

  • If you have a dvd copy of this film, watch it. I recommend it to you..

  • This is my favourite film ever, so Romantic and beautiful.

    Truly Exceptional.

And the music by John Barry is just Wonderful.

  • mi pelicula favorita es hermosa de principio a fin, sobre todo la parte donde le habla estando ella en el escenario, wow.

  • i saw this film when i was a kid and loved it, i wonder if watching it now, as a synical older man might ruin the memory for me.

  • serious dude I have no shame in saying that the film is still amazing and is capable of making me shed a tear

  • It is a lovely movie. Last week i finally got to visit Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel.
