Daaraan toevoegen: de vernieling van één van de prachtigste badsteden van Europa begon op 10 mei 1940 en gaat vandaag nog steeds verder …. Gelukkig heeft de Vlaamse kust nog iets als De Haan.

Wat een sfeer, en rust, zonder de ellenlange files auto's langs de dijk.

Nu loop je in een tunnel, langs de ene kant afzichtelijke hoogbouw, aan de andere duizenden standcabines, die het zicht op strand en zee benemen, nu, komen ze enkel voor het strand, als het mooi weer is.

@sischerr like the whole country? i doubt you've been everywhere as there's plenty of really nice areas in belgium.

antwerp for example is one of the most beautiful cities in europe, and plenty of smaller ones are very pleasant as well.

check the link provided on my channel, it shows some smaller flemish coastal towns... and they look far from run down. problem is that people only ever visit brussels, not exactly our prime tourist destination.

my grand father was from Ostende great place we were there in August 2010 and its just the same a great place to be !

Dank je wel om dit hier te plaatsen.. ja inderdaad..het is niet meer zoals het geweest is.. Alles werd moderner..maar ipv restauratie ervan, word er een lelijk betonnen gebouw geplaatst ! ..jammer

Niet echt vernield. De Duitsers vonden dat de ideale plaats om een bunker te zetten en gaven opdracht aan de lokale bevolking om het af te breken (dat moet afschuwelijke geweest zijn). Nadien wouden Oostende iets nieuws, iets van die tijd en even monumentaal. Alhoewel ze daar volgens sommigen in geslaagd zijn, gaat die vlieger voor de meeste mensen totaal niet op. Ondertussen blijft het bestuur in Oostende verder erfgoed platgooien voor goedkope vakantieflats.

Wat een prachtige stad destijds, gelukkiglijk zit in de hedendaagse architecture weer wat warmte en een ziel.. maar ja terugkeren naar deze mooie tijd kan niet meer
