  • How can you describe a city in a couple of pictures? Why don't you go there. And instead of complaining on what there isn't to do, try doing something new, something you can't do anywhere else. Do your research. Main Street isn't even the hub of activity in Buffalo.

  • The idiots that proposed this are in all probility on indexed pension down in Florida

  • Most other cities have the downtown portions under ground, and the residential lines above ground.

  • Just build a wal mart and convince everybody they are high tech by teaching them how to use a chinese made computer and everything will be okay. The low paying high tech service sector job is the job of the future. Sound familiar?

  • Is the light rail still there, or gone?

  • @harley1450000 really! im gonna go there tomarrow and ask for a job!

  • Main Street was doing OK when they began buidling this. But the construction went on forever! I can remember going to Hermans to get a pair of skates before we went skating at the Aud and the store was dead. We had to literally cross a plank to get over a ditch! The people could not get to the stores, and they stopped trying to go after awhile. It was different for Hengerers, and AM&A's and the Mall, because those stores all had entrances on other streets.

  • still looks dirty

  • No, no, no...it wasn't the Metro rail that killed downtown Buffalo. It was those God-awful primary and secondary-colored glass panes that you see in :35 and 2:41. They need to go.

  • It is not because traffic was eliminated. It was dead before that. The reason is because no one lives downtown, or near there. At the sametime the rail was built, not long after that 17 story apartment buildings should of been built in downtown Buffalo, and near there, along with 6 story tenements, more townhouses.. Downtown Toronto people live downtown, and near there. Reason Rainbow mall did not work out, same thing. Near it 10 story apartment buildings should of been built, 4 story tenements.

  • The main problem in Buffalo is, people are thinking suburbia, suburbia, suburbia. Why should they not think that. There is almost no housing at all in Downtown Buffalo. Almost no one lives there, or near there. I"m sure Bushes free trade policy with China chased even more manufacturing from the Buffalo area. When money is tough, people leave. The reason I moved out, from when I was living there. Only minumum wage work I could get. Could only get part time. 2 jobs that collided with each other.

  • Another thing that has hurt Buffalo is most jobs there are minumum wage, or near it. With a Republican President during the 80s, Republican dominated Congress, Senate, Minumum wage not a living wage. Still waiting for Obama to raise it to 8:50 a hour. Working 48 hours a week between 2 jobs not making any more than 180 a week. Not enough money to live on, let alone recreation, get work I wanted to get done on my car, keep up my rent, back rent paid. Finally I just said F it, and left.

  • alot of people black and white are moveing out of buffalo, because of so much violence there.

  • HI I am a African American who really has decided to go to Buffalo Ny for vacation....this is a sad sight to see cause I researched and everyone was talking about downtown bufflalo and how fun and crowded it was but from what i see its a DESERT so I was wondering are there any parts that are maybe predominately black that are not that bad or any area thats not racist or poor... Its sad to see this and I have never lived there...thanks in advance

  • @tavie2is4u I don't think you'll find too much of what you described in Buffalo. You may want to go to Niagara Falls, ON, Canada instead for fun.

  • Awesome city but yeah... get main street jumping again!

  • Buffalo looks abit like Vancouver ...

  • You are right that the Metro is a failed project; however, it is NOT the reason for Main Street's decline. Correlation is not causation. Buffalo's economy was tanking at the same time, and being able to park your car (and about 10 others) in front of AM&As was not why these stores initially succeeded and subsequently failed (post-Metro). It is DOWNTOWN! Most people don't park right outside their building anyway. Buildings are several stories with hundreds of people in them.

  • By eliminating park on Main St, the 5% of people who had that advantage now have to park where the other 95% do. See? These stores failed because of a combination of confounding variables. Buffalo's taxes, politics, economy... the list goes on. But yes, the Metro was also a waste of money because they never extended it to the communities that would use it. I agree that a ~5-7 mile rail within city limits is absurd.

  • I guess you think buying oil from overseas is better than a electric rail system useing American power. "Sorry bus fumes are not good for you"

  • Quite the contrary. I haven't owned a car in years and take the subway/trains to work in the city I currently live. I'm a big supporter of public transportation. Maybe you misunderstood that I was refuting the notion that the Metro rail killed Downtown Buffalo. The part about the current Metro being a waste of $ holds true, considering it would have been more useful if it was extended to areas where real commuters exist. My true desire is extension, not demolition.

  • It's poor, the city is one big ghetto, the politics are a joke (yet you all keep re-voting for them), you have no national stores at all downtown, and hardly any local business besides bars and restaurants, the people are ignorant, many have NEVER been outside of Buffalo, yet think they know it all and the sad part is they think Buffalo is fine the way it is, LMAO

  • it may be poor, but this is a great city to live in
