Power Quest is an awesome band. And thats cause Steve Williams is the head of the band, he does the writting and music in almost every song. Totman was only a guest musician on first 2 albums, he played guitar along Bickers and Andrea, he had nothing to do with the composition. If not agree just look at the differences with his band DF (hes the main composer). Im pretty sure that PQ will still be great with new musicians if Steve leads the band. Go PQ!! Shame for Alessio, i liked his voice...

Of course Power Quest would win. They have better songwriting and far better writing. Their keyboardists are both good, though, and DragonForce's drummer is better. Although, despite Dave Mackintosh being a better drummer, he's boring as fuck with DragonForce. See Bal-Sagoth's "Atlantis Ascendant" album to hear him actually playing well.

Whether or not you enjoy the music is subjective; whether or not it's well-written is objective. DragonForce are pretty terrible writers, with some exceptions; their first album was good. They're also much less technically complex than people think they are, and are given way more credit than they deserve for such. In short, Herman Li can't really shred.

If you say dragonforce are terrible writers, then you say the same for whoever wrote this song. These are some of the same chords and progressions, and Power Quest originally had Sam and ZP as members.

The solo bridge in this and the fast solo are also very similar to dragonforce solos.

My point: Dragonforce writes just like anyone else in the power metal genre, same chords, same emphasis. They're not terrible writers, people just treat them like it because they're more famous.

DragonForce sound "like anyone else" because they're completely generic. Not all power metal is like that. A few cases in point: Manticora, Blind Guardian, Lost Horizon, Angra, Hibria.

I agree, their first album was the best by far, and none of the later ones have been as good. Lost souls in Endless Time from the IR special edition was pretty good, but otherwise none of it can compare to VOTD.

I live in the US as well, but it could also be the fact that I go to a tech school with a lot of gamers, so the whole Guitar Hero relation could have part of that. I do spend most of my time interacting with the metal crowd, too. And trust me, I'm a power metal fan; I was a huge DF fan for a while. Also, check out Lost Horizon and Pagan's Mind, if you haven't already; I think you'll like them.

As far as Stratovarius goes, Timo Tolkki is one of my other heroes (I'm more of a singer than a guitarist), does he still tour with them? I heard he left the band at some point.

Edguy would be a must too, but I don't know where they'd play. none of the clubs around here do that kind of music, so id have to look into it a bit more.
