parts of this film honestley make me cry i worked in a nightclub at 17 and the song from the start played no shit i was only theyre a night. dirk goes through some highs and lows and realises that he is bottomin out and its time for him to go back to his life for real cos he needs these people they are his family they all love him every single one of them has problems in their lifes like real people. the soundtrack is also amazing. the end scene is the icing on the cake and the song tops it off.
you watch Boogie Nights and realise how criminally underused Burt Reynolds has been in the last 25-30 years...he was truly superb in this film and I salute Paul Thomas Anderson for giving him the role
How much time do you think is supposed to have passed since the crazy violent night? The night that ends w/ Dirk's head in Amber's lap, as he cries. Jesse was pregnant that night...and now the kid is, how old do you think? I mean, Dirk was such a mess when he showed up at Jack's that night, it must be at least a few month later. He would've needed to get himself together.
@Kenshiro26 Agreed, agreed. My favorite movie. And the Big Top just works so well in it. Have you ever listened all the way to the end of the credits? You hear Dirk talking, whispering actually. It sounds like he's either jacking it or getting head or something. I'm not sure what he says word for word, but it's something like, "Where's Ringo?....ah, shit....I found Ringo." I cranked the volume and it's still kind of hard to make out. It starts as the Big Top is ending, during that last bit.
I thought the muffled, melancholy circus was perfect for these characters. After rising to the top and falling to the bottom, they've finally settled into doing what they know best. That look in the mirror at the end was perfect, it was like "So this is my life....fine"
This scene is fantastic; the director actually made us (me anyway) feel a sense of familial love and closeness among this group of fringe dwellers even after all the violence, insane drug use, and narcisism. You feel that they'll survive because of this sense of togetherness. That's the mark of a great director and talented actors. Did you also notice that this is one long unbroken shot following Reynolds through the scene? I swear I actually felt touched by these characters at the end!
@jerico641 That is exactly how I feel about this movie. My g/f dismissed the movie based on the premise. All she can think of is that it is about the porn industry but I tried explaining this point to her. The major point that I makes this movie work is that Jack, as the director, is like a father figure to all those characters in the biz. He is the glue and this crew succeeds because they stick together like a big family with really highs and the low lows. I loved that shot at the end!!
@g3nov3s3 About being open minded to movies, yes. About doing finances no. She actually helps me out quite a bit with her financial wisdom. She's just kind of a square really.
Pulp Fiction is like Taxi Driver? Hahahaha, Taxi Driver is about a narrative about a mentally ill racist, how is that like Pulp Fiction. Please tell me how in the fucking world did you make that connection.
Oh and another thing ya' fat ass bitch, my youtube name is McNugget because, guess what? IT'S THE FUCKING INTERNET! IT'S AN "ACCOUNT" NAME, YA STUPID FUCK! Better go catch the cock ferry for fagot island.
Oh OBVIOUSLY I DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT CINEMA, WHEN YOU THINK THAT PULP FICTION AND TAXI DRIVER ARE SIMILAR! FUCKING RETARD! THERE IS NO SCENE THAT EVEN RESEMBLES ANY MOMENT IN TAXI DRIVER YOU STUPID FUCK! No seriously How Fucking Retarded are YOU? Keep watching Twilight New Moon pussy.
No you don't because you don't know what the fuck your talking about. How is Pulp Fiction like Taxi Driver, in any way shape or form. Just explain it.
Ya it is a real good ending to this movie is'nt it lol.Ironically, they all come back together at the end kind of like a real family.Burt walkin thrould the house like the old dad checking on everyone lol.
I wish "foxy bitch" was still a compliment. Now I don't know what to say to broads.

My favorite P.T. Anderson film, one of the best films of the 90's.
One of my favorite pieces of film score ever, the full song plays over the end credits.

@MckyMseNTarotCrds If you turn on the subtitles you can read what he's saying at the very end. I forget the actual dialogue though.

Amazing, melancholic music in the background, but it doesn't sound like the "The Big Top" that's on the soundtrack.
turbosprint 3 years ago 3
The music is melancholic because time has passed, life has given them lessons and hits, and the wild ride is changing and ending.
Jack however joins them with a purpose and creates a family and a home, which is something they don't have.
brunettechocha 3 years ago 18
@brunettechocha that is a great analysis. Jack was a father figure, they certainly needed it.
