@mackmoud There's no difference between the ruling styles of Assad and Mubarak, both fix elections, both have secret police roaming around the country, both rely on the military for support and they are both dictators with a capital D. The real reason that not much happened on that day was because state security services raided the homes of the opponents and detained them.
