3am eternal is one of the best pop songs ever written, and every mix has its own totally different and electrifying qualities. the 'commercial mix', especially the 12" is fucking fantastic, i've never heard a catchier dance tune and there ain't no better example of the klf's stadium house sound. the pure trance original is really moving with a totally different vibe. learn to revere the tune in all its forms, because it's excellent.
Incredible. I like hearing all the variant traditions of KLF songs. Mixes of What Time Is Love? are brilliant. I like the Guns of Mu Mu version of 3 AM Eternal. And the original version of Last Train To Trancentral, called ‘Go To Sleep’.
@elcesar999 No, the original "Pure Trance" version was meant to be released 31st October 1988, but wasn't actually released until 1989 (as stated by the 6robski8, the one who posted this video)
The one which became a hit was released in either late 1990 or early 1991.
I have gotten to prefer this version over the commercially successful one too!
The KLF released two discs containing bootlegs and sampled versions of 3am Eternal and What Time is Love. Anyone seen them up on here at all? I have them on vinyl and might get around to cutting and posting them if no one else has.

I actually really love both versions. When I first heard this I didn't like it honestly. It's not really as dancable as the other, but it grew on me as a song as opposed to a track you just pop in at retro theme parties. The vocalists have a lot of talent that get lost in the mix and there's more depth to it. Thanks for sharing!
I've always been a fan of the radio edit, and never heard this until today. It's good, but the chart version is more breakey and dancable in my opinion. This is chill out.

@xpaulax08 It was originally scheduled for release 31st Oct 1988, but was delayed until early '89.. the tune was being played in '88 and like most tunes back then was already massive before it got an official release.
The first time I heard this was a remixed version, and I thought it was awesome! I had no idea this was the original. Both are great, but the remixed version really gets my blood pumping! I seriously need to look into this group..

This IS the originally released version of 3 AM Eternal. The green "Pure Trance" (aka Pure Trance 1) you refer to is "What Time Is Love?"
The 'main' release had a black front cover with pink writing. The remix release's front cover had the inverse (black letters on pink background)
Pure Trance was the name given to a range of singles released by The KLF, though most never got released as scheduled (in fact, some never ended up got released!)

@preddietor hi mate yes i have the pink cover version which i think had all the best mixes on class i hated all the mixes with the rap in it pink cover by far the best
Maybe this original version is better, its just the 91' redo was the first one I heard, so I prefer that ( it must be an imprinting thing ). The 1991 version was more commercial , though, with its use of rap vocals.
I first heard this in a place called club 4 in widnes. but the version i heard had a sort of lapping waves intro (which seemed to go on for about 10 minutes in my altered state...) and then suddenly the thing kicked off with 'klf is gonna rock you' and the place exploded... anyone know what this mix is?
I remember when House / trance was the new thing back in the day. Reminds me of The Cayman Islands in 91 and Vancouver B.C in 1990.. I'm going to listen to some 808 state and Pragha Khan now... :)

Same here bro, Im 35 an DJ. I mix this genre like crazy. Good bpm's to match almost anything. This era was at the height of DJism. It's comin' back a lil
Doreen Waddell, a former vocalist with the groups Soul II Soul and KLF, died in a traffic accident, apparently after running from a store where she had been accused of shoplifting, police said. She was 36.
Police said it appeared she had been running from a supermarket after being confronted about shoplifting. She was struck by three cars on the nearby A27 highway and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Goods from the store were found scattered across the road. SAD......
T_T a tear for the world.... i cant believe wot im reading. 3am to me is the pulse of the universe and the eternity of its night. There is an underground message of truth love and unity, the sort than doesnt serve hate with hate... sadly many sacrifices must b made to reach this goal. wots with the twisted individual in the comments below, surely this should b flagged and removed :(
punch the face & black the eyes smash the knee caps broken carcass boiled in anal leakage throws off its laced in rusted blood and old piss & tastes like her fucking broken neck .my advice you need to light a match she'd still smell like gonorrhea bashing her irritating angelic dead cut head open rape her untill she's unconsciously a pile of bacteria & sulphate and drink her after birth.
douch with pig larva & hippopotamus fart trampy flu bug pheromones like a food poisoning shit mouth and dump her remains in a meat grinder kill her befor she infects you and colostomy bag juice.this gutty and dirty slimey hot rotted skunk marinated in dead fish cervic cancer
taste like and wet like gasoline & mercury perspirates upon your tounge like stale tree sap & shoot your load into her unliving dried vomit chunks.her whore flesh disgusting fucking cunt smells like dead then shit and piss into her rigamortis bleeding wounded face .
That was the "secret" of KLF, basically. When you listen to their songs, they all consist essentially of a killer baseline and ... well, not much else is needed for a good trance bit.
I love it but don't like the way it stops and they say LONDON ... etc. That ruins the flow of the whole thing, IMHO. :( Other than that this is SO powerful. Can never get it out of my head.
Thanks for putting this one up. I hadn't heard the "Pure Trance" version of 3am Eternal before. These versions should have been included on "The White Room" album.
OMG klf what amazing group. . A blast from the past bring them back

This reminds me of ENIGMA style. This is of coarse long before them. I wonder did they copy this sound.
Great song!

That was the "secret" of KLF, basically. When you listen to their songs, they all consist essentially of a killer baseline and ... well, not much else is needed for a good trance bit.
They actually 'admit' it in their book. :)
