1. a weak neck joint (seems to be a problem with almost all SGs)
2. a slightly muddy tone on the neck pickup (i noticed that you didn't demo a clean tone in your video)
3. slight tuning problems

@ianisc00lio hey, i've got one also. let me help you out.

3. because the neck is so long and thin, it's easy to bend the neck and warp the sound while playing. but in my experience they stay in tune fine.
heres some of the guitarist who like the the 2010 model g-400 62 sg over the gibsob sgs. Frank Iero has (2) 2010 epiphone g-400 62 sgs, heritage cherry and black he also plays a 2009 wilshire. band he is in my chemical romance. matthew followill has the 2010 epiphone g-400 62 sgs, heritage cherry and black. band he's in kings of leon Chris Brown. he ownes and plays a 2010 epiphone g-400 62 sg heritage cherry. BAND he's in - TRAPT. chris robertson.
@stratdem They don't like them over the gibson ones..... If they are using those guitars, then it means that those players are enforced by Epiphone, which means: Epiphone gives them free guitars. May I also inform you that those guitars are mostly made by the Gibson custom shop which means they are actually gibsons but with another headstock and Epiphone written on it, not the cheap indonesia versions. It's just a promotion stunt
i want a time machine to go back in time and buy a real gibson (sg) les paul standard for the quality and the price today is too high but that doesn't mean i'm poor
@Blompcube I've heard this too and I once again I think this is a myth. My faded SG certainly has a one peice body glued into the set neck, and I made a point of checking out several faded SG's at a local guitar strore recently and they are all the same - once peice bodies. I should clarify that I'm actually talking about faded/lacquered "Specials" not "Standards" - I think Standrds have the 498T in the neck.
61 Reissues aside, Fadeds are constructed JUST AS WELL as standards. Both have mahogany bodies, both have set necks, both have 490R/490T pickups. If you want to spend a bit extra then thats your decision but you're just getting lacquer and inlays - no difference in tone or quality at all. Sorry but this 'faded are crap' gear snob ignorance really shits me. My faded SG Gibson is my favourite guitar, yes even over my Gibson Les Paul (and ithas lacquer finish & pretty inlays). It's all about tone.
@cyke74 actually, the SG specials have bodies made of several pieces of wood, whereas the standards have one-piece bodies. this tends to make the standards noticably more resonant, but it's not an enormous difference and you are paying more mostly for the cosmetic differences.
@cyke74 "My faded SG Gibson is my favourite guitar"
I have an old vintage standard (year?!?), a 61-reissue and a brown faded SG with EMG's.
Out of the 3, I also favor the faded SG due to its SUPER-FLAT fast neck, which is noticeably easier to play than the other 2 SG's. Contrary to what I expected, the EMG's (85 neck - 81 bridge) didn't deter any of the SG's natural qualities. Of course, I got way lucky with this one, because the necks/playability on faded SG's vary from guitar to guitar...
Look at Gibson Sg guitars. Everything is the same , but the finish isnt the same , that cant be the reason of those prices ! I mean SG Standart: 998 Euro and the Special Faded is only 599 euro but the guitar finishes are the difference
@Cloerpictures Fadeds aren't constructed as well. The last one I saw needed a lot of fretwork, and there uneven glue spots. Plus a standard has a binding on the neck, the faded does not. There are inlays in the fretboard in the Standard, and dot in the Faded. So, yeah, there is a bit of difference. And plus, Gibsons quality control has really taken a nose dive, so I'm not surprised at the subpar work.
Hey how is that thing? It sounds very awesome! I wish I had one. I really dig SGs, but I only have the faded special (tone, finish, and playability is epiphone at best) . D: A guitar like that would look great next to my Paul, and my Humbucker Strat :D
I see I am not alone in the Highway to Hell trouble. I play it the same way but when put next to the recording it sounds slightly off. I tried half step down and up with not luck (although I may try that again). Anybody know what Angus does differently in the recording? Quarter step?
man be careful with you teqnique the thumo is supposed to be behind the neck i wont talk about the picking cauz you should work on it...except from those you play really good
The thumb shouldn't be behind all the time, I use it for the 6 string some time, some professionals do it, too. But i guess he doesn't use for the same purpose(at least not always). Anyways all good beside the sound.
@4390818 actually having the thumb behind the neck of the guitar is more of a classical position- that is just to protect you from injuring your arm by overextending. If your hands are big enough, like his, its more beneficial to use your thumb to mute the 6th string and 'thumb' notes.
I'am planning to buy one from Thomann d o t . D E + an Angus Young Pickup, then i just need an Marshall to get the best tone (''best'' imo since i love the characteristic Marshall sound).
thumbs up mate, I like guys who are not showing off but just playing what they want to play, nice guitar, I just bought a Gibson SG but its a standard :P
great tone man, i just bought that exact guitar at guitar center 2 days ago and i couldn't be happier. the 57 classics are amazing, I'm really happy i got the 61 RI over the 08 standard
im an old rocker of 62 summers, i have a 1961 sg and wouldnt part with it but believe me when i say, prise the chrome dust covers off your humbuckers and you will find that the sound has been "released" i done it many years ago and have never regretted it, you will be amazed at the difference.
@SearchInSun Depends on how well the guitar has been put together and how good a grade the wood is. If the guitar has been made to a fairly high standard and the mahogany used is of a decent grade and well seasoned, then there is no reason why you should not get similar sound, remember the quality of the neck and fretboard are important too.
Rock it out dude!!! i'm going for the same set up as you... tried both out in guitar center not too long ago. I put the 61 reissue up against the sg standard and les paul standard on the 30 watt head version of this amp, and the 61 sounded best to my ears. Which is your favorite all round guitar? your 61 or LP? Rock on!! \m/
This is some good playing. I especially like the cover of Aerosmith. I never thought Aeorsmith covers sound good on an SG but this video proves me wrong. Keep on rockin'
Wow, why all the hate? This is one of the most popular videos on Youtube for a reason. It's simple, showcases the amp and guitar, and the playing is solid.
UMMMM Well First Create Not Immitate..... Two Turn Up The FUCKIN AMP So That We Cant Hear U Strumming....... Three Nice Guitar But U Dont Deserve It Cause U Arent Very Good Plus If Ur Gonna Show Off Songs U Kno How About U Learn The Whole Song Not Just Riffs!!!
First of all... Theres nothing wrong with covers.... Second... Chill Out.... Third .... If your so amazing, then post some videos of you actually playing... In Conclusion Your just a jealous bastard... Get over yourself. This guy is pretty good, and hes been playing 12 years...
eyy mira que cosaa... venia buscando alguien testeando sg gibson y me encuentro a alguien tocando un tema de mi banda favorita AEROSMITH jeje... por cierto muy buen cover
You got the chops, now if you got the time to learn other peoples riff, why not make your own rythm and riffs,...I would like to hear it,your own, your style.Peace.

Rock on!! \m/

Wow, why all the hate? This is one of the most popular videos on Youtube for a reason. It's simple, showcases the amp and guitar, and the playing is solid.

Wow, read the title of the clip, notice it says "test"? He is showing the tone of the guitar for different songs.
As far as his playing, it is actually quite good, and until you post video of you playing better, STFU.
