so good to know there are more videos of this ship VESSEL, !! oohup!! :) I just recorded it placed in the port december 2011, the horn sound and the night shot. the video is in my page.
Would have been a 10 times better video without the added "special effects" line crisscrossing etc..didn't give you enough time to foucs on anythiing.
If you are refering to the balast tank, the info. I supplied was based on info. I recieved from my sources within the Maritime industry. I have worked in the Maritime industry for 25 years and currently work at the Port of Portland where the vehicles you refered to were discharged. Many of the latter photos in the video were taken by me. Not all vehicles were destroyed incidently. Many of the Miata's were given by mazda to Skip Barber Racing school for parts and/or conversion into race cars.
Every bit of info in the description is wrong. No one flooded the wrong basalt tank, there was a fault that caused only one side to fill causing it to tip. There were 4703 vehicles on board, all were destroyed. It floated at sea for a month until it was towed to Dutch Harbor Alaska where all of the vehicles were offloaded.
@Crestwood1002 Actually all of the cars were off-loaded and destroyed in Portland, Oregon. However 41 of these cars still remain for some reason. They sit (to this day) at Auto Warehousing on Marine Drive in North Portland. Their airbags were not deployed and even the batteries are still installed. The cars are essentially untouched (minus four years of wear from being out in the elements). When I asked about them, I couldn't get a straight answer from anybody as to why those 41 cars were spared
I got seasick watching this video. Why all the crazy transitions?
