  • Très bien.

one of the best glissandos I've ever heard

  • Mateo Ferret fantastico. Vera musica fatta con gusto.

  • love that ending

  • My sense is that Matelo was not such a big guy, and yet I think he's playing a Favino, which is an even longer scale than a selmer jazz model...also a bigger body. He tears into that guitar and imposes his will: INCREDIBLE!

  • Historic, Merveillieux! This clip shows us the joy the musicians bring to this music. There is a great article by San Francisco newspaperman Herb Caen who went to see Django as a G.I. in Paris in the 1940's and saw M. Ferret instead.

  • matelo et boulou fabuleux .....

  • le bonheur musical !!!!!!!!! Tout simplement fabuleux

  • They're incredible, but I regret that the quality of the recording has a terrible impact on the audio.

  • Saw this about 20 years ago on a programme about French Jazz on BBC 2, was knocked out by it then and I still am. Just wonderful

  • this is history of a europian gypsy jazz. long live!

  • quelqun sais que signifie "minch" moi je sais lol

  • Quel plaisir de revoir et d'entendre le papa de Boulou Ferré , cette vidéo a un peu plus de 30 ans et je remercie jbbea de la partager avec nous !

    Rosy

  • heaven on earth

  • how do you criticize matelot? what can you do? are you in the history kazama86?

  • don't mind him he is a little shit who runs his mouth on all the gypsy jazz clips

  • long live the gypsy music in all it's manifestations!

  • too bad it's over so soon!!!

  • Absolutely priceless.

  • We are in the presence of greatness here; Jean "Matelot/Matelo" Ferret (1918-1989) was one of the greats of Manouche guitar playing and I love his music, but sadly I started going to France a few years too late to have seen him play live. He often played "pompe" (rythmn guitar) to Django Reinhardt's lead in the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, as well as making the iconic "Manouche Partie" album with the great accordionist Jo Privat and his own wonderful double album "Tziganskaïa".

  • Finding this clip is for me akin to discovering one of a seventy-year old Django playing - Formidable!

(Oh, and the hilarity at the beginning is because "la minch" is actually slang for vagina - hence the reference to "the secret little flower".)

  • @Legacyrxawd Ca alors, on avait pas deviné, heureusement que tu es la...

  • can ure old man play like that?

  • You guys and your talk of form and "clear" attack. Sorry, but you just don't get it.

  • um...

  • un grand maitre de la guitare manouche et ses fils continuent...

  • mAN GET real his dad was like one of the best gipsy guitarists...hes very old here,..and out of tune! but the music is THE BOMB!

  • Matelo... one of the alltime grandmasters of valses and Gipsymusic!!Incredible!!!

  • a wonderful ""Minch"" valse he knows what he talks about

  • pure gypsy style!

  • top of the top!!!

    matelot for ever...

matelot on t'aime pour toujours merci pour ta musique!!

  • man youre crazy, that is straight style and soul.
