I have some of the original editions. I had to complete my collection by buying a modern version of Dr. Zaius. Planet of the Apes is a classic. I'm really not keen on the remake. I enjoyed all the original films, especially the first one and Beneath. The 1974 TV series was great, too. I've only watched bits from the cartoon series. I wouldn't mind watching the full thing.
i had both the star trek and the planet of the apes action figures. In addition, i had the tree house. I used to have great fun with star trek vs the planet of the apes.
This may seem like a silly question, but why would you write about having a Captain America toy in response to a video about the "Planet of the Apes"? I am just curious about your sense of linkage.
I had them all. The Astronaut's helmet was a jet pilot's helmet. Never figured why MEGO got it wrong. I always wanted The Judsen's garage set but missed it.. Thanks for posting !
I have almost all of the figures and the treehouse.I still have them after all these years along with the GI Joe and Action Jackson guys. They were a part of my youth and still a part of me as an adult.
Damn these were the greatest toys in the world for a kid back in the 70's...I remember I had the Planet of the Apes toys and the Evel Knievel toys...damn I miss those days..thanks for posting.
yes great for kids to be capturing their own kind and operating on them .. lol and when the kid puts his arm around the other kids neck he is like yea i pwned you with everyset there is excspecially the catapault and the other kid is like....i know..
"Norman" was probably the first Ape gang member! That's his gang member name, they don't usually use their real names for fear of being locked up like some dirty human!:):)
We used to play for HOURS with these guys!! Any parents remember when kids used to use their imaginations like this? Those were the days! No video games or computers!!!
I wonder of somebody has all of those cool prototype figures...? A lotta different vests and face paint schemes! 30 years later and these figures (most of them) remain in good shape...except for the odd knee joint breakage!
Amazing toys....still have a ton of them! A time when kids pretended and didn't sit in front of computers and computer games....We would play for HOURS making our own adventures with these and the Star Trek lineup!
I babysit for a little boy and we've played Star Trek lands on the POTA. The humans were abducted from the Enterprise and imprisoned. Poor Uhura, she got her arm broken in the abduction (and has been replaced). This kid had a ball and loves playing w/ my Megos!
The music is from 2001 A Space Odessy. I still have all of these figures from when I was a kid and the Tree house. I loved these action figures! The horse never really worked. As for the commercials— I thought they were lame— but they made me want to buy the figures and sets!
Priceless. Cool. I could watch a whole show like that, even with the hands moving the figures and seeing the tops of the kids head's. Heh. "...I smell an astronaut! ..."
My favourite starts at 1.22. Oh No! I'm trapped by the apes?
inkmagnet 3 months ago
For the record, the POTA merchandising was so successful that it served as a guide for Star Wars's efforts.

I wonder why they used "Also Sprach Zarathustra" for the music....?
jjobie 2 years ago
2 reasons jjobie: 1) Because MEGO could not afford to get Jerry Goldsmith POTA theme and 2) "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is in the public domain.

I had a Doctor Zaius; the kid round the corner had a soldier ape. The sand pit in my garden was the ape world and Action Man was the human victim.
