  • My favourite starts at 1.22. Oh No! I'm trapped by the apes?

  • For the record, the POTA merchandising was so successful that it served as a guide for Star Wars's efforts.

  • "So lifelike, they even get female dolls pregnant and then fuck off!!!"

  • I smell an astronaut!

  • Oh my god !, I can't believe I'm seeing this childhood commercial from the

    mid 70's again !

  • I have some of the original editions. I had to complete my collection by buying a modern version of Dr. Zaius. Planet of the Apes is a classic. I'm really not keen on the remake. I enjoyed all the original films, especially the first one and Beneath. The 1974 TV series was great, too. I've only watched bits from the cartoon series. I wouldn't mind watching the full thing.

  • Anyone have these commercials in BETTER condition??? PLEASE!

  • i glad too still own all of my megos. my brother and i are in our 40's and we still get a kick out of them i'm the offical keeper of all our toys

  • There should be a new line of POTA figures... I'd love to buy the village / fortress / treehouse playsets...

  • I almost spat my drink out when the announcer introduced Zira as the "woman Scientist"

  • i had both the star trek and the planet of the apes action figures. In addition, i had the tree house. I used to have great fun with star trek vs the planet of the apes.

  • Mego had the best toys ever! The universal size scale with all the licensed properties they had really let your imagination go wild!

  • Boy, those kids have DEEP voices!

  • i have captain america my dad has all of them

  • @shadow025027

This may seem like a silly question, but why would you write about having a Captain America toy in response to a video about the "Planet of the Apes"? I am just curious about your sense of linkage.

  • I wonder why they used "Also Sprach Zarathustra" for the music....?

  • 2 reasons jjobie: 1) Because MEGO could not afford to get Jerry Goldsmith POTA theme and 2) "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is in the public domain.

  • I had them all. The Astronaut's helmet was a jet pilot's helmet. Never figured why MEGO got it wrong. I always wanted The Judsen's garage set but missed it.. Thanks for posting !

  • Kinda crazy how those kids playing have adult voices!

  • Doctor Zaius stuck up his ass.

  • I had a Doctor Zaius; the kid round the corner had a soldier ape. The sand pit in my garden was the ape world and Action Man was the human victim.

  • My brother and I had endless adventures with the Planet of the Apes figures vs the Star Trek mego dolls. Great memories

  • I always wanted a Nova action figure.

  • Wow... I smell an astronaut. That's funny.

  • Wow Mom and Dad got me the tree house and one ape action figure for Christmas Circa 1976? Made me the happiest kid on the block.

  • "They're going to operate on me. . ." how gruesome!!!

Toys were much cooler back then!

  • AHHHH nostalgia at its best!!!

I have almost all of the figures and the treehouse.I still have them after all these years along with the GI Joe and Action Jackson guys. They were a part of my youth and still a part of me as an adult.

    Thanks so much for sharing!

  • General Ursus is a close substitute.

  • Damn these were the greatest toys in the world for a kid back in the 70's...I remember I had the Planet of the Apes toys and the Evel Knievel toys...damn I miss those days..thanks for posting.

  • wow how creepy but fab ifr i seen this as a kid id be beggin mom not to buy me them lol

  • i remember that my parents bought me the "treehouse" set for Christmas

  • How do you smell a astronaut ?

    (I guess a astronaut diaper)

  • Great flashes of my past. My parents gift first collection of action figures.

  • I wish i had voice actors when i was playing with action figures as a kid:P

  • Hhahahahahhaha! rofl, that made me laugh.

  • how great is that, a remote controlled horse!

  • From now on, I'm going to call all mirrors' Sun Reflectors, instead. :)

  • What is this place?!? SPRING THE TRAP!

  • these are probably worth some money if they are in their original packages.

  • awesome! thanks for sharing. super classic

  • Fantastic!! Thanks for sharing, those were the good old days!!!

  • Wow, talk about memories! I had forgotten that commercials used to be so much longer and involved. Long live PoTA!

  • yes great for kids to be capturing their own kind and operating on them .. lol and when the kid puts his arm around the other kids neck he is like yea i pwned you with everyset there is excspecially the catapault and the other kid is like....i know..

  • 3:58 the Graffiti- NORMAN- Norman?!lol

  • "Norman" was probably the first Ape gang member! That's his gang member name, they don't usually use their real names for fear of being locked up like some dirty human!:):)

  • I've heard of that gang- "The Gorilla Lawgivers" -they used to hang out in the Forbidden 'Hood, drinking banana beer & vandalizing old ruins!

  • Yup,it's an historical fact that they would completely shave their enemies from head to toe making them the laughing stock of the species!!

  • youmovemeyoumproveme

  • Awesome memories of my favorite toys as a kid.

  • YOU MANIACS!!!!!!!!

  • "Zira, the woman scientist..." LOL

  • I laughed out loud, too. Although I almost expected them to just say, "Zira, his wife."

  • We used to play for HOURS with these guys!! Any parents remember when kids used to use their imaginations like this? Those were the days! No video games or computers!!!

  • zira the "woman scientist"? why cant she just be called a scientist?!! that is so sexist.

  • we will march on the forbidden zone,i can hear elvis,s music....

  • Ooh! Help me, Dr. Zaius!

  • Why must ape hate astronaught so much!

  • Is it me or are Burke and Verdon's vests switched in the first prom for them!?

  • I used to hate those "gloves" that were like oven mitts! Dr. Zaius! Cookies are ready!!

  • Beach with waves sold seperately!

  • I wonder of somebody has all of those cool prototype figures...? A lotta different vests and face paint schemes! 30 years later and these figures (most of them) remain in good shape...except for the odd knee joint breakage!

  • i remember the pro skater Steve Caballero talking about his collection in an interview

  • Can I play the trumpet any more?

  • Of course you can!

  • But he couldn't before!

  • Why Also Sprach Zarusthra, I wonder.

Did some ad man get his sci-fi films with apes mixed up?

With that music, I too kept expecting Ric Flair to show up and cut a nasty promo on Dr. Zaius.

  • Get your hands off me you dirty ape.... WHOOOOO!!!

  • i just bought two of them from eBay really good deal

  • I SO had the Planet of the Apes Treehouse.... I had the fortress too!!!

  • Amazing toys....still have a ton of them! A time when kids pretended and didn't sit in front of computers and computer games....We would play for HOURS making our own adventures with these and the Star Trek lineup!

  • The crew of Star Trek landing on the Planet of the Apes - now that's a crossover I'd like to see.

  • I babysit for a little boy and we've played Star Trek lands on the POTA. The humans were abducted from the Enterprise and imprisoned. Poor Uhura, she got her arm broken in the abduction (and has been replaced). This kid had a ball and loves playing w/ my Megos!

  • cool!

  • Mego really needed to make Mutants for this set.

  • I lol'd.

  • The music is from 2001 A Space Odessy. I still have all of these figures from when I was a kid and the Tree house. I loved these action figures! The horse never really worked. As for the commercials— I thought they were lame— but they made me want to buy the figures and sets!

  • jajajajajajajaja, que bakan que chistosa esa nota

  • I remember the third commercial from when I was a kid

It's also an Easter Egg on the 35 Anniversary Edition Planet Of The Apes DVD in a much clearer picture.

I also saw the Forbiddon Zone commercial back in the seventies.

  • I owned many of those action figures! Thanks for the memories!

  • check out my remake of planet of the apes

  • Now THIS bring back good memories! Thanks for posting!

  • Priceless. Cool. I could watch a whole show like that, even with the hands moving the figures and seeing the tops of the kids head's. Heh. "...I smell an astronaut! ..."

  • I was waiting for the Ric Flair Ape to be advertised.

But what are these people teaching kids? That humans are inferior? LOL

  • no that astronauts smell.

  • I love the line "the woman scientist"!? Also love the oven mitts on the Soldier Ape! Classic! I have all of them on my shelf!

  • now that was worth watching looked fun but the music creeped me out wonder what the kids in the 70s thought great adverts though
