  • @lolinbaby It's about the story of two women and three monks, in this floating monestary, as far as language, here and there, there might be a few words, I loved it and can't even say I noticed - in all honesty - it's not that kind of movie - you get it - even if it's not English.

  • Oh my God.. the music is so beautiful!!!

Does it belong to the movie???

  • This movie made me think twice about how lucky we are to have life given to us<3

  • @RubyAngel3000 if you think so, that's not exactly the movie gives you. the message is life is life and the suffering and stupidity repeats again and again. the message is that there's no luckiness or not. life is just life. simple as that.

  • @jahnwell Yeah but I'm looking at the nature bit, it's just beautiful!

  • What is the name of the song and who is the singer?

    The movie is just AMAZING.

Фильм просто потрясающий. Всем рекомендую его посмотреть!!!

  • Gahd I haven´t even watched the film & this music is already almost making me cry.

  • Everyone is saying that this film requires deep insight when really, it doesn't. It is about as straight forward of a film as I have seen. It is a great movie and a simple one. If you can't understand the cycle of life portrayed in the movie, I question how you even heard of it. And if you can't understand the very basic ideas that the "wise ones" embody, I honestly don't know what to say.

  • I watched this movie with a friend in Seoul who had to explain so many things to me that I suppose I knew instinctively through the imagery and tone of the movie, but I still was absolutely amazed by the film and the message it contained.

I was mystified by a few scenes which I am sure the meanings were lost in translation and cultural differences, none the less I could watch it over and over!

  • I almost wish that the director had a the girl play a greater role than just temptress and victim, his former films reflected this same kind of vision of women. This as one of his first philosophical films might be the start a great era

  • i like this film- philosofi film

  • kim ki duk's best film along with 3 iron... Wonderful

  • 4. and where did that cat randomly come from in the middle of the mountains?

  • @PostedForYou I Understand that this is a complex movie and requires deep analysis but don't butcher the movie because you cannot appreciate the beauty of this movie, or simply do not understand the meaning. Just stop with those silly questions and go watch something like " Charlie's Angel," or something.

  • There are so many flaws in this movie that actually made it difficult to respect the movie in it's entirety.

    1. There was one boat, how is that everytime one of them would go over to the land in the boat, the other one would show up?

    2. When the baby came at the end and he climbed up the mountain, what did he do? leave the baby behind just like that for hours?!

    3. The kid is supposed to be an apprentice, but there were no lessons at all on the Buddha throughout this whole movie.

  • @PostedForYou

Don't justify films, man. Just feel it ! You're too trivial.

  • @PostedForYou

    1) He flew

    2) He drugged the baby to ensure deep sleep.

    3) The lessons were thought during sleep

    4) Dropped from the heaven.

This is a subtle movie with deep insights. The whole theme was the cycle of life and death. One must kill desires to set him/her truly free from the cycle.

  • @PostedForYou 1. Regarding the boat- the original master clearly displays powers over the boat, and the floating house. He is the only one who crosses the lake without the boat and without getting wet. I am not sure what the purpose of his powers are, but they are easy to see right before he burns himself. 2. He probably left the baby in a sort of crib. Does not require much imagination.. 3. This movie is not about the Buddha. I have no clue what you're talking about in that respect. cont..

  • @PostedForYou 3. cont.... Yes, the kid is his apprentice, when he goes to pick medicine, the elder teaches him which herbs are poisonous vs. which are good. When the child tortures the lake animals, the elder ties a rock to his back and makes him see if they are dead. Most of all, the master teaches the child how to live based on his lifestyle. The movie does not focus on spiritual training so much. 4. The cat- Notice that the elder returns to his sanctuary with a newspaper and a cat. cont..

  • 4. cont... the fact that he has a newspaper would mean that its reasonable to assume that he stopped in to a town. This is a very important aspect of the movie because in the newspaper he reads that his former apprentice killed his wife.

Also, the elder teaches the apprentice a valuable lesson when he returns after killing his wife. As he makes him carve out the characters he reflects on why it is important to remove unhealthy aspects out of your life(thus he returns after jail)

  • Name of song is JungSun Arirang (정선 아리랑) . Singer is Kim Youngim(김영임).

  • @bkkim123 Hey, thanks for the info. However when I checked for the same on youtube, the music is different from what is played in the trailer. JungSung Arirang is korean folklore music, different from what is played in the trailer. Would you please re-check? Thanks in advance.

  • @bkkim123 Any update to my query regarding this?

  • Comment removed

  • rakesh nath

    writer / film maker

    craft triumph of kims ever

  • This movie is better than Inception, or anything thing else this year, for that matter.

You need to see it. It's a haunting film.

  • @TheMarkSasuke64

quite honestly there are hundreds of films better than Inception...Memories of Murder, Paprika, A Bittersweet Life, OldBoy, My Neighbor Totoro...it's ridiculous how many people claim "INCEPTION" is the best movie period when they haven't seen many others.

And hell they think the whole concept of INCEPTION is original...they've obviously never heard of Paprika.

  • @shadowpal2 'From Justing to Kelly' was better than Inception.

  • awesome movie,i ws high as fuck when i watched it,it was really great

  • @88isuskrist88 LOL me too, as drunk as one can be, but loved the film

  • @MaghoxFr

    hehe

  • @88isuskrist88 LOL I bet directors aren't thinking on guys like us as a target audience... ;)

  • @MaghoxFr

    hahaha

  • @88isuskrist88 HAHA, imagine the director thinking "wait a second, I don't think dunk people will like it, let's do it all over again!"

  • Amazing film.

  • This masterpiece should be renamed in Lessons for Life.

  • Can someone tell me the music being played in the trailer? I know the OST is by Ji Bark. But I need to know the particular music of this trailer. Thanks in advance.

  • Ministro Wolcheon!!! Queen Seon Deok

  • does anyone have any similar Asian movies like this to recommend?

  • @smartguy9765 Dolls by Takeshi Kitano

  • una obra maestra!!! excelente

  • beautifull! I was wondering why the woman in the winter season has her face covered, can anyone tell me?

  • @TheLolaby I think it was her expressing / exemplifying the notion of shame that would be experienced in most traditional societies. Childbirth outside of marriage, is still considered taboo in many societies. She is an allusion to the situation with the young monk and the woman earlier, and she was also the person who made it possible to complete the cycle, a metaphor perhaps for the poor station of women in many societies despite their utterly equal and vital role.

  • @proadmin1 my point of view is that she was a goddess or a messenger... it may sound funny, yes but seriously, the fact the she never showed her face and the fact that the director switched to icons of budha once the saolin uncovered her mask, plus it may be conceived as she was god- sent bringing the newborn child so that the saolin can finally reach divinity, and, as you said, renew the cycle

  • anybody know the song used in the trailer ?

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you !

  • anywhere I can find it on youtube ?

  • look for ost

  • This film gets better every time I see it....

  • Im caucasian male and I don't have any problem with western and asian culture. I don't wanna blame none of them. What abt that?

  • 0:56 Whee~ Lol I love doing that. This is an amazing movie. =]

  • masterpiece indeed

  • It s amazing, can anyone send me a link to torrent it? I wanna have it

  • I saw this movie before. I did understand nothing, so I saw again. I got something but still nothing. Life is hard to see, isn't it?

  • lumaz71,

you;re so brave to say all of us what you doing while whatching this movie! :)))

  • western people are alcoholics. Alcoholics with their pointless lives, annoying dumb kids, fascist regims, porn, over usage of the word love, depression, over weight... That's probably why western people dont understand. Most western people at least.

  • I'm nothing like that...

  • Yes, yes, of course

  • @LazinessPaysOffNow

That's guts. With a name like that rant on 'most western people'. Specially the pointless lives part.

  • Everybody keeps saying stuff about that meaningful name. Its not even a name, its a nickname. Well I think you were calling me an hypocrate. From my point of view, I am a worthless hypocrate but from the point of view of a person that looks at my nick name and thinks "I shouldnt be lazy cuz it only pays off now..." I am....nothing special. Still, western people are like that. Am I wrong?

  • Ofcourse 'everybody' does, cause I (and more people with me, I'd guess) assume you picked that name for a reason. Something in there must have appealed to you. Am i wrong?

I'm not calling you a hypocrate, that's what your mind fills in for me, let that be clear. Although denying that would be a bit strange, as I was insinuating (if that's english, even) that.

I don't know if you are wrong, but I think you are, as I believe every western person is different. Like every non-western person.

  • Dear LazinessPaysOffNow; To say that western people are alcoholics, fat, and live pointless lives show your true character. Shouldn't you judge people by their individual character? I'm an Asian American that lived through horrible times in the racist 1970's. All I wanted was to be judged by my individual character. You are no different than the racist xenophobes I encountered 30-40 years ago. Perhaps you judge westerners from a painful past. I overcame mine.

  • I'm a 16 year old causasian male. I think its just teenage things coming up. But then I think about the suicide rates on the most developed countries. Those who dont kill themselves are happy with material stuff. Kids grow up to become spoiled teens. And overweight is a huge problem...when people starve in Africa. And I said most western people, if you think you're not one of them then its alright. Its great. I'm just dealing with facts, its not pure hatred like the racist scumbags.

  • sweetheart, western cultures are variated there is not only one model around, and no it's not a dif. variant of the same model

the world is big, please grow a bit before you start speaking

  • @LazinessPaysOffNow

You should look into libertarian socialism or any kind of ideology with a critique on capitalism. I think you'll appreciate the ideas socialist or anarchists or whoever, are contending for.

  • @LazinessPaysOffNow acer320 said all about peoples. "Individual character" - for some, you are friend, for others - wolf. Find your way - dont look for others.

  • @acer320 Lazinesspaysoff... Is a 16 year old child. That is both the saddest and the worst thing about it. WHen we are older, what we experience mold us and shapes us for the most part. It is sad when mere children hold our hates and bias.

  • @acer320 that's good to hear you overcame. but some people can't overcome and every circumstance are different. and the extent as well. he is still overcoming or sometime later. or never until he die. racism is very natural human nature.

  • what the hell is this movie about?

\this is a cool trailer but its vague

  • best movie.... in the world!

  • this movie was one of the best ive ever seen. cheers.

  • i agree with that! this is more than a movie. the best movie i´ve seen!!!

  • One of the greatest movies I've seen. The end made me cry

  • i wanna see this

  • I want to watch this movie!!!!

    Amazing...

  • I wonder why celibacy is a rule in Buddhism, love between a male & female is so natural like the rising of the sun & moon.

  • Lust awakens the desire to possess. And that awakens the intent to murder.

  • sad fascinating movie. i watched it a couple yrs ago but still very memorable. not to mention the beautful scenery

  • I loved this movie! so good!

  • Wunderschön der Film! :)

  • ich liebe dieseb Film!

  • i was sO amaze .. kim ki duk's mOvie seems to be so weird.. but i guess it only needs a deep comprehensiOn about it.. wOw.. weird.. o.O

  • why you have to write all 'o' s in capital letter?

  • Przepiękny film, esencja buddyzmu.

Beautiful movie, the essence of buddhism... or life

  • what is the word the old man puts on his face?

  • They're pieces of paper with symbols meaning "close" or "shut".

  • why is he doing that?

  • Kanji or "word" he puts on his face means

    to close.

  • It's not Kanji, Kanji is Japanese, it's Hanja. Korea's version of Chinese characters Koreans used.

  • this is a masterpiece.

  • i agree

  • This is the best movie ever. People who cant stand slow, meaningful movies shouldnt watch it. Its truly a great great film by korean director Kim Ki Duk. really beautiful. Everyone should watch it. There are so many good films by him. All concerning different issues. All of his films make a statement. but love this one the best.

  • I agree this is a beautiful film but Old boy is better and 3-iron also

  • I think 3-iron was my all time favorite Kim Ki Duk film.

  • Great video!

  • looks like a beautiful movie.

  • 1:20 ..........Kim Ki-duk ^-^;;

  • awsome

tell some kind words from this

    i listen

  • amazing

  • Amazing movie, beautiful and spiritual. Do yourself a favor and do not miss this movie.

  • duey

  • Looks good, but cannot decide, this or 3-Iron?

  • both

  • I love Kim Ki-duk

because she makes such beautifull films !

  • i remember i have watch this film before for many years ago

  • 오연수 참 이쁘다!

  • 오연수아닌데

  • *doesnt understand*

  • Kim Ki Duk's masterpiece

  • hi! i was wondering if someone could tell me the summary of this movie pls..., i don't seem to get the plot from the trailer... does this show like the cycle of life??

  • I have no idea what the official interpretation is, but I thought it just stresses the evils of cruelty and lust, and emphasizes redemption and being at peace. It is a cycle of life thing, but not in the reproductive or family sense. It's very tragic, too, but the music in this trailer isn't in it. :(

  • I would agree with Dwayane2005, It a cycle of life - a snapshot of buddist who steps out of his world into another and then returns to bring things full circle. It's a commentary on the delicate balance between spirituality and human nature.

  • what a shame of korean to be shamed of something which we are to be proud of

  • this is wonderful movie

  • Such beauty here! Ravishing music and gorgeous scenes from a movie I'd love to see. Oriental girls are so pretty when they look innocent!
